Legacy Versant RN Residency Summer 2014 Cohort :-)
If I were you I would still be thinking I'm in. Did you get a request for references email?
-
Legacy Versant RN Residency Summer 2014 Cohort :-)
I'd say then that you're probably gold.

Legacy Versant RN Residency Summer 2014 Cohort :-)
No phone call, just a canned email saying "we think you're all great, buuuuut...."

Legacy Versant RN Residency Summer 2014 Cohort :-)
I was interviewing at Good Sam, O.R. and had done my entire senior practicum in the O.R. and apparently it still didn't holder muster. I'm expecting the "formal" call tomorrow of denial.

Legacy Versant RN Residency Summer 2014 Cohort :-)
I was told this morning, to my dismay, that those of us (me included) who did NOT receive an email asking for references shows that we are out of the race.

Legacy Versant RN Residency Summer 2014 Cohort :-)
Do they notify you either way, or do they only notify you if you get a job and if not then it's just radio silence. The paperwork said that they will notify us the week of the 14th and I haven't heard a thing by phone or email. Do I assume if Friday at 5:00 rolls around then I can let it go and consider it a wash?

Applicants to Portland area schools 2011
Air, that's the one I did and I submitted the certificate of completion to ADA and it was accepted and considered in compliance. My course was called "Bloodborne Pathogen Training for the OHSU Research Laboratory"

Air, that class didn't show up right away on the front page. Choose "Course Catalog" and you should be able to see the course in there. Select it and you can then begin working through it.

The Bloodborne Pathogen Training is handled at Big Brain now (they changed it). It was available as of Sept. 1 and needs to be done anytime. I did it on the 1st and took just a few hours. Log in and do it right away (it's no big deal though). I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. If we have name tags be sure to write your online name next to your real name so we can identify each other. I'm Dan BTW.

Alternates to MHCC
I just received word from a friend of mine who was #3 on the alternate list at MHCC who received his acceptance into the program just a day or two ago.

It is an interesting observation that I can confirm in my experience too. Most of my science classes were at Cascade and the maturity of those students were typically very high. People were serious about their classes and the learning process. But of the few classes that I have taken at Sylvania, it felt like, well to be honest, Welcome Back Kotter. In one or two classes I really felt bad for the teacher because many students created an environment which felt more like an 8th grade class... just my experience and I know that doesn't apply to all classes at Sylvania, but the ones that I took there had a much less mature classroom etiquette.

I just got word from a friend of mine, she received acceptance into PCC as well BUT she was also accepted at Linfield and she is going with the latter, so there is another opening available for PCC.

Got my acceptance letter today from PCC, so they are mailing them this week. I have already confirmed my spot at OHSU so that's one more opening at PCC for those of you who are on the list :) Best of luck to everyone waiting on PCC!

OHSU -- Accepted!
Ditto, sent it out Monday... am really looking forward to meet all of my fellow cohorts.

OHSU -- Accepted!
Heh, I think we've all collapsed from exhaustion and elation of getting in, yes.

OHSU -- Accepted!
I was rejected from CCC, I didn't get an interview at all. My all-inclusive GPA was 4.0 and I do not have a previous degree. I also do not have any health care experience except for care provided to my mom and support for my wife during breast cancer. My career has been a CEO of a company that created computer animation for forensic purposes and courtroom demonstrative evidence, a lot of it dealing with medical/anatomy. I've adopted a child from India and I too just talked about how and why I have decided to leave my 18 year career and move on to nursing. I admit I have a strong skill at writing essays and revising/editing, but I just honestly talked about my strengths, my expectations, goals and confidence. It's been several days now and I am still in awe that they choose me and I am so very grateful.

Ohsu - Ocne/bsn
Hi Katinthehat, thanks... I honestly can't say if there was anything specifically that helped me get in, other than the fresh baked apple pie that I dropped off to the nursing admissions staff Heh, really, I'm not sure. I had a 4.0 on everything going in, but I'm 46 and my essay was able to talk about my life experience with various issues of health that everyone inevitably deals with by this age with friends and family. I have no prior health experience, but I did own a company that produced forensic animation and courtroom demonstrative evidence, much of which was anatomical-based, perhaps they liked that I worked in that type of science. Perhaps they liked that I gave up that career to focus on nursing instead. Perhaps taken as a whole, they liked my grades, my age (life experience), my professional background and successful business career as a CEO, my experience with international adoption, wife's breast cancer, etc. and added it all up and gave them a warm, fuzzy. I really don't know what made the difference in my case.

OHSU -- Accepted!
Thanks Kell, I can't describe how excited I am looking forward to the challenge, and for the priviledge of being a part of the amazing culture at OHSU.
-
OHSU -- Accepted!
When they say they took only 24 cohorts, are they saying that TOTAL nursing student acceptance was 24 students out of all the applicants? I can't imagine. Clarification anyone?

OHSU -- Accepted!
I finished microbiology last term at Cascade and I have to say it was one of my favorite classes. The lab was fascinating and subject matter just really fascinated me. I had a great professor there as well. Perhaps we should arrange a meet-and-greet sometime during the summer over lunch or coffee sometime for all of us here heading to OHSU.

I received my OHSU acceptance letter in today's mail as well. I feel like I am floating on a cloud, both because my dream choice was OHSU, and because I celebrated with a little too much wine, but hey, whaddya gawnna do. Anyway, I was scheduled for my MHCC interview on Wednesday, but I am going to decline now and will decline my spot at PCC if offered, so there's a little more wiggle room for those hoping to get into those schools as well. Congrats to all OHSU'ers!! Woo Hoo!
