  1. I posted awhile ago, but dont know if anyone responded because i cant find my post! anyways, I was looking into getting the studygroup101 cd's and what not, but what do they all consist of? notes? tests? ?? also, do they work with a macbook? i tried getting ahold of someone there to tell me and emailed them weeks ago and havent' heard back. im getting frustrated. can anyone help me out?
  2. I am SO HAPPY I went for my lpn before rn. I wanted to originally just do the rn program, but I had such a hard time getting into a program and I got so frustrated. I got right in a lpn program and graduated last dec, passed boards in January, and now I work at a local hospital. I LOVE what I do and I have learned sooo much. I am going to start studying for rn soon, plan on taking my first test by november and going from there(im doing excelsior). I am not in a huge hurry to be a rn, just taking it day by day!
  3. ohhhh lol ok thanks! I was getting worried! :)
  4. Ok I registered for the first exam for excelsior last Friday, and I still have received my att yet. Anyone have any idea how long it takes to receive this? I dont plan on testing anytime soon, but I just would like to know where the heck it is!! Thanks!
  5. oh crap i sold all of my books back to the school and on amazon! oh well. im going to start searching for the books today!! thanks again for all ur advice!!
  6. ahhh Thank you SO much everyone!!!! tasha I really like ur idea of breaking the sections down into weeks. That would be the best way for me to go about it!! next step, getting some books and setting a "start" date!!!!
  7. thank u so much! so did you buy all the recommended books? like fundamentals, peds, med/surg etc?
  8. Ok I STILL haven't started studying for the first class for the excelsior lpn to rn program. I am so clueless on HOW to go about this. I have heard so many different ways to study and I just dont know what to do!! I really dont want to buy all the recommended books, but maybe I should? I have heard about lisa arend's notes and what not too. Can someone, anyone, shed some light on this? What worked for you? What didn't? Once I get some feedback hopefully I can make up my dang mind and get going!!! Please help!!! :)
  9. thanks everyone!! I will get there one day...I think I need to get into the swing of my new job before getting back into school! Definitely dont want to overload my brain too much! :)
  10. i agree. I think all programs should require applicants to be cna's before nursing school. It for sure is a huge dose of reality and you will know if its for you or not!!
  11. ha! just realized that it was posted last year too. oh well haha
  12. i felt the same way when I only had 4 months left too! I bawled my head off driving home from my med/surg clinicals one day because my teacher gave me a new assignment when she told me the day before that I would have the same one all week. so all the work I had done the night before.....care plan, looking up a million meds, dx, etc etc, which totaled like 7 hours of work, going to be at 2am, to get up at 5:30am.....I had to do it AGAIN on a whole new pt, with even more meds, dx, etc! I wanted to just quit. But I got through it...I really enjoy the nursing role. I am starting my new job as a LPN at the hospital I did those same clinicals at, and it is definitely NOT the same. Completely different. Good luck to you in whatever you choose to do!! :)
  13. Im still going to do it for sure! I just need to get myself motivated! Someone motivate me!! LOL!
  14. ohhhh! got it! :) well good luck to you....I hope to be getting my butt in gear to start soon, too!
  15. So I had classroom orientation at my new job at a local hospital today and I was chatting with the group I was sitting with about excelsior's lpn to rn program. the HR manager was talking with us too and she said that a girl is graduating from there soon and they are "iffy" about the program because of the clinical aspect of it. I really want to do it, but what if they refuse to give me a job after i graduate! i guess I could always go to a different hospital, but I really want to continue to work there. grr. discouraging. maybe they should look into the school a little more before judging!! i think its a great idea!
  16. how did you get grants for the program? i was told you couldn't....unless you got it before hand and just had it lying around! it sucks that you pretty much have to pay for it out of pocket, or take out private loans for it. no fun. :s
  17. I have been reading around on here, and it seems like this is the way to go as far as studying for the exams for excelsior? It seems cheaper than buying books...Anyone have any advice for me? I am just brand new starting out at this, just starting to study for the very first nursing exam, and I feel a little lost. Any studying advice, where to buy things, etc would be very much appreciated!!! :)
  18. Hi everyone! I am about to begin studying for the first nursing exam through excelsior. I am a tad confused though. I know i download the free content and I did that, just need to print it off. I saw a list of books for the nursing program....should i get all of those? or some? and is there a book for the first nursing class...health safety? or is all the info I need in the free content thing I downloaded? Also, after reading up a little on this site, it looks like I dont have to actually "enroll" until I need to take the 3rd class? I am already an LPN so I dont have to take the 2nd class. Also, can I take the info literacy class at anytime? or does it need to be done by a certain time? one more question.... ......... what is the cpne like?? like is it at a hospital or what?? any help will be much appreciated!!
  19. I feel like it went really well! The nurse manager complimented me on a lot of the answers I gave, was very informative in telling me about the job, was very friendly, etc. I gave her a thank you card and told her I hoped to hear from her soon and she said "don't worry, you will!" Eeek! She has some more interviews this week, and I wont hear anything until mid to late next week....so thats a bummer! But Im going to stay positive and try to carry on with my life and not let myself think about it TOO much! i have everything crossed right now! I want it SO BAD!!
  20. Hi Everyone! So I am a new lpn grad, passed my boards in January, and I am dying to work at Fairview Ridges! I have applied for every single position that has come up there, and I FINALLY got a phone call today to come in for an interview. I am interviewing with the hiring nurse manager on the 5th floor, which is oncology/women's health. My friend that I graduated with got a job on that floor and gave me some good tips, but I want more!! Anyone know of any questions they might ask? I am terrible with answering questions that they come up with, and I don't want to look/sound like a dope!!! Any advice is much appreciated!! i am sooooo nervous!!!!! :barf01:
  21. good luck! get a good nights rest, and remember to BREATHE!!! PS-LOL i love the puking smiley!!!! too funny!
  22. To tell you the truth I really didnt study much! I didnt know what to study and got so frustrated! I did read through a kaplan book, and started looking through the mosby's nclex book. I mainly practiced taking tests and that was about it!
  23. AHHHHHHHH I PASSED MY PN BOARDS!!!!!!!!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!
  24. I know MN doesn't either....but I talked to a friend the other day and her husband is a RN at a major hospital around here and he said that RN's that graduate from excelsior are having problems getting jobs. Not sure if it's just at the hospital he works at, or all over the state.
  25. thanks guys!!! :) I plan to still enroll once I pass lpn boards....getting in a lpn to rn program around here (MN) is next to impossible!!!!
