I remember them mentioning we had to have fingerprinting, but I assumed it came along with the background check. I'm a bit confused with this part of the process :/

I have no idea either if we start clinicals right away. Hopefully they let us know that stuff at the orientation, it would be nice to know what we're walking into!

Yes, talking about the program starting this summer. As far as I know, most clinical sites are in Hanford but I can't say for sure if that's the only place they will be. Will you be starting the program too??

Me too!! I actually started thinking about what in the world I might do if I don't get in :/ It's driving me nuts, but trying my best to stay positive. Any idea of when they let applicants know? I've been thinking April, but that's just a guess...

2 A's and 2 B's. Mind sharing yours, too? :) I know, I've been the same way and all the waiting to hear back doesn't help. I also applied to COS and thinking about applying to Porterville, too. But, the counselor at West Hills told me they actually don't get a lot of LVNs applying and it's much easier to get in that way, versus the traditional 2 year route. Hoping that still holds true this time around.

No, I did not ever hear back from them. I was extremely nervous during my interview and it definitely showed. They were very nice about it, though, but letting your nerves get the best of you doesn't work too well in a correctional setting... obviously lol.

I just had an interview at a CA prison, and thought I'd share the questions I was asked: What are the components of a physician's order? IM is shaky, dizzy, confused and is an insulin-dependent diabetic. What would you do? How do you complete a medication pass? Tramadol is prescribed for IM and he says "I've never taken this pill before." What would you tell him? Alarms have sounded off and 2 COs are with an IM who is in the shower, lying down and verbally non-responsive. What would you do?

Thanks for your reply... I've decided to keep school my top priority right now. The more I thought it over, it just seems like the best thing for me to do. I won't have this opportunity forever! As far as the interview goes, should I keep the appointment? I don't want to waste anyone's time, and I'm 100% sure I wouldn't take the job if it will interfere with school. But anyone know how flexible correctional facilities are with their employees who go to school??

Hi, I'm an LVN and I have an interview at a CA prison in a few days, but I'm undecided if I should consider going this route or just stay in school. I've had my license for about a year now, but have only worked for a couple of months in LTC, and that was over 9 months ago. Since then I have been pursuing my RN, but I still have at least another year to go before I can apply to any programs. I'm 23 yrs old, and my parents have been supporting me while I get my education. They feel that I should get school out of the way now because the longer I wait, the more difficult it will be. I'm very grateful to them for making it easier to pursue my goal, however I can't help but feel like I'm wasting my current license by not working. The chance to work in corrections doesn't seem to come along too often, but from what I've heard, it won't leave much time for school in the beginning. My question is, would this experience be worth putting off my educational goal for a while, or should I just stick to school for now? I know I haven't even been offered the position lol, but I'm very confused right now and any input is really appreciated.
