  1. When the body is in DKA there is a shift of potassium from the intracellular to the extracellular space in an exchange with hydrogen ions that accumulate extracellularly in acidosis. A large part of the shifted extracellular potassium is lost in urine because of osmotic diuresis.
  2. I wish I could email you directly but I haven't posted enough times to send direct emails. I think I got all the info turned in mid Novemberish. I got a call last Wed to interview on Thursday and offered the job the next Monday. I know Brackenridge is currently scheduling interviews for early January. Good luck to you!
  3. sophie03- I'm sure you know you apply directly to Seton as a Graduate Nurse and then also apply through the Versant office with faculty references, transcripts, goal statement. I would call the Versant office directly if I were you and make sure they have everything. I had a professor fax my Faculty Reference three times before they said they received it. I received an email telling me that my application was being routed to the different hospitals. From there, the unit managers look at all the applications and choose people to interview. I met some of the unit managers at the Versant Recruit Night they had awhile back. I had a great experience with the unit manager at IMC at Seton Medical Center. She was extremely nice. I felt like I was talking to an old friend. She asked questions like, "Name a time during nursing school that you are most proud of." "Tell me about a time of conflict and how you handled it." I had a good vibe from the unit nurses that I got to meet as well. The first step for you is to make sure they have everything. Keep calling them. Make sure your application is routed to the managers so they can consider you. Good luck!
  4. I know they are taking ADN's. I have a couple of other classmates from Austin Community College that are entering the OR Nursing Internship program in January as well. I will not be doing the Scott and White Internship for the NICU after all. I live in Austin. I accepted a position at Seton Medical Center here in Austin for their Versant residency program. It was a difficult decision because I love the NICU but it will work out better for my family. Scott and White seems like a good program. I know the hospital is very highly regarded. Good luck to everyone pursuing the internship program!
  5. It starts January 4th. I am in the NICU Internship program. A classmate of mine is in the OR program and they start the 4th as well.
