Moving to Non-COMPACT State, from Compact state, but practice in a 3rd state?!?!
Currently, I'm an RN in NC, a Compact state. I'm moving back to my hometown of Chattanooga, TN, which is also a Compact state. However, Chattanooga is on the state-line with GA, which is NOT a Compact state. Here's the issue... I'll actually be LIVING in GA. The TN-BON website says I'll need to declare my "primary state of residence" & provide proof, such as a driver's license. But, my driver's license will be issued by GA. Does anyone know how this works? Does the board consider my application an "endorsement" or would I have to take boards again or something if I actually "reside" in Ga? I'll be working in TN (which is only about 15mins from my house in GA.) My current license is NC/Multistate. Thanks!

When the patients shares their health information and nurses pick up on it
I would think that posting a short note saying that you're praying for them, or something to that affect, would be OK. However, it would be a HIPAA violation to "share" or "link" that web page or site to anyone else. In the first situation, the PARENT posts any private info & decides WHO has access to that info. In the second situation, the nurse is sharing info with people the parents may not even know.... Even if the nurse's heart is in the right place, it could get you into trouble. - But, the best policy is probably not to post at all though. So many hospitals have such strict policies about social media that it might violate a policy even if it doesn't violate HIPAA.

Confusing shoe restrictions!
It means you have to have "good, professional" shoes. Many of the popular, comfortable shoes today are not really appropriate for the hospital. For instance, canvas isn't water (or blood, urine, vomit) proof. Leather usually is. For a while, Crocs were really popular. But, for the same reason, they're not appropriate. That's why it says a "closed-toe." Sling-backs, clogs, & slip-ons come off too easily if you're suddenly having to run or twist in a weird way. I once ended up circulating an emergency C-Section wearing only ONE SHOE b/c I ran out of the other other running down the hall pushing the bed! - last time I wore clogs! - that's why it says a high vamp (side) Meaning no Mary-Jane styles. They want white shoes because they're more professional looking & easier to keep clean, you can bleach/polish them when you get blood or vomit on them. Just get a comfortable pair of plain tennis shoes, or NurseMates, Danskos or whatever. Personally, I love Merrells. Good luck with school!

Are "Baby Friendly" hospitals dishonoring cultural diversity
I'm aware that Hispanic moms often think of their colostum as being dangerous & that they prefer to bottlefeed until their milk comes in. I usually bend over backwards to respect other cultures & beliefs... so long as there isn't a reason NOT to respect their beliefs. However, education is a part of our job. In the of case waiting until the milk is in the patient may never GET enough milk in. Over the years I've known of many babies who were readmitted for dehydration and/or jaundice because their moms thought their milk had come in, but it wasn't enough since there wasn't any stimulation prior. We also need to reinforce the need for the antibodies. The key is to use a competent interpreter & to speak with the moms in a non-judgemental way. Explain that you know they want what's best for their babies.
