Hi jsable, So every student is different with unique strengths and weaknesses, but I actually found some of the prerequisites to be harder than nursing classes. I would first start with some personal reflection...why do you think you were unsuccessful in prerequisite courses? Be honest with yourself...did you truly give yourself enough time to study? Did you read the material and look for other resources when you didn't understand? Find the strong students in your class and do what they do. Here is what worked for me. I have to read the material, even though I don't absorb every word it gets the brain in academic mode and gives you one exposure to the content. During lecture write down topics you don't understand and meet with the instructor or other students for further explanations. For exams I would always study on my own for awhile and then went over concepts with a group of MOTIVATED students. This way I was able to explain things (which helps seal in info for me), and hear concepts I didn't fully understand explained in a different way by my peers. Also there are lots of great resources on the web. I like this YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/ed4nurses (just don't get distracted watching amazing cat videos ). Stay focused and think about your goal every day. Best of luck, you can do it!

Hi everyone...congratulations on getting an interview. I just completed the program in May and can't believe how fast the time went. I had a great experience and met lots of great people. From what I remember the questions they asked in the interview were pretty typical. Strengths/weaknesses, why nursing, why Regis (really do your research on the Jesuit mission and how that sets Regis apart), what did you do with your other degree, tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult person, and the toughest...why you?. As always be sure to have some thoughtful questions to ask. I think the question has been asked about dress and I would err on the conservative side. Also if anyone is interested in some second hand Regis scrubs/mandatory polo (for service activities in the community) I could save you a bundle off of buying them new. You'll spend enough at Regis :) Best of luck! R

I knew that I was accepted when I filled out my FAFSA, however I would recommend doing it right away in your case. The priority deadline for some grants is March 1st. I actually did mine before I got my W2s in the mail, and estimated my 2009 income from 2008. I then went back and corrected it when I got the accurate data for 2009. The FAFSA is now much easier than when I got my first bachelors...just fill it out online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Hope you get in! I know how tough the waiting is, but like you said CU letters haven't gone out yet and I would suspect several people would choose CU for reasons of finances. Regis most certainly does have a big price tag. (Still stresses me out a bit as I am paying for this all on my own.) Keep us posted.

Hopefully I am able to help a little on this. I was an alternate for the May 2010 cohort and am now accepted into the accelerated BSN program. Our class is 48 people, and when I was in your shoes I inquired about the size of the alternate pool and was told it was 35 people, and I also thought this number was discouraging. I was told by the admissions counselor that some years they accept only 3-4 off the alternate list, and sometimes it is as many as 30. I heard I was accepted about 2 weeks after I was first notified of my alternate status. The pool is not a ranked list of alternates, it is simply that...a pool. If one person decides to not accept their position, the university will choose an alternate from the pool who closely matches that person's demographic. Every component of your application is evaluated in the attempt to maintain a diverse class. Congratulations on being an alternate, and best of luck to you!

Xtina- The deposit for Regis is actually $350, and when you are accepted they will give you about a week (or two, I forget) to accept your spot with the deposit. They can let you know you are accepted up untill the first day of class!

I am currently working as a waitress and in retail. I have zero hospital experience besides my limited volunteering. My concerns about not finding a job are primarily because I will be spending so much on the degree and I will need to find employment right away to pay off the loans.

How did you set up the tour and visit with a current student? I went to the info session so I saw that lecture hall but that was all. Congrats on your acceptance to Regis...we may be classmates!

Thank you, thank you everyone. I so appreciate the variety of angles these responses have given me. I think I can really set my mind to paying off the loan as quickly as possible and just remember the things that drew me to nursing. The service learning aspect of Regis is very attractive to me, and I think the extra attention I might get there is worth it. I also looked into taking the short pre-reqs and this is a good option for me. Thanks again!

Hello all, Well I just found out that I was accepted into Regis's accelerated BSN program for May 2010. Now I am having a tough time deciding what to do. If Regis and UCD were both priced the same I would definately choose Regis as I believe it fits my needs and goals the best. I would finish in a year as opposed to one and a half to two years with UCD, and from what I hear Regis graduates have an excellent reputation in CO, which is where I wish to remain after graduating. (My boyfriend and I are very serious and he has an established career here.) However...Regis will cost $37,000 as opposed to $22,000. I would also have to spend this next spring semester taking 4 pre reqs that I need to begin Regis's program while I need nothing more for UCD. This means I would not be able to work as much and I would have to spend most of the money I have saved on these classes. I will not hear back from UCD untill March. I am $20,000 in debt from my bachelor's (speech language pathology). My biggest fear is that I accept Regis, graduate $57,000 in debt, and have trouble finding a job. I have read the horror stories about new grads sending out 100s of applications without even an interview. I would love to hear from graduates of these programs and people working in CO hospitals now. Do hiring managers prefer students from one school over the other, and enough to justify the extra money spent? Does anyone know if one school is more competitive than the other...meaning if I got into Regis is it likely that I will get into UCD? I would appreciate any feedback!
