Techs don't like to be asked to do "scut" work
I'm just wondering are the "tech's" in your hospital CST's or CFA's??? You said they assist in delivery and in my area you basicaly need to be a certified Surgical Tech in order to do that. We have patient care tech's, and surgical tech's in L&D

Phlebotomy course?
You could try checking into your local community college. Mine offers a Phlebotomy class that is seperate from the Phlebotomy program. It's intended for Allied Health Professionals, you just have to show proof of your certification or registration before registering for the class.

Waubonsee Community College - CNA
Thanks KimSki, Do we have to purchase the Uniform from School or can we use any uniform store? Is CNA the only thing you took at Waubonsee? I am doing this class first because well it's the basics and the stepping stone for everything. After CNA I am thinking about the Phlebotomy and EKG but then I was also thinking about jumping right into the pre requisites for Nursing. Any advise? Thanks so much! Mrs Meg

Stethescope & Blood Pressure Monitor
My husband just ordered me a Classic II SE from allheart.com for Christmas and he paid extra and waited an extra week to have it laser engraved (so it doesn't walk off) but when it arrived there was no engraving on it. Needless to say he now has to send it back to get the engraving done and wait another week. He said he will not be purchasing from them anymore. They do have some off the norm colors so they are good for that, like the all black ones look nice, but if your getting it engraved I would suggest going somewhere else.

Don't know if I am cut out for Nursing???
i am beginning my cna program in january and was planning to start my nursing pre req's after that but now after reading some of the articles and posts on here i am seriously starting to doubt myself. i want to be a nurse but i just don't know if i will be able to do it, the med conversions and memorizing the med names and generics. i just don't know. i am overwhelmed because i don't even comprehend half of the things that are being discussed in the forums. i am 28 years old, married and have an 8 year old step daughter. i have never gone to college and this cna class will be my first attempt at any kind of secondary education. i currently work as an order specialist for a electronics distributor, so i have no medical knowledge. i am paid well for what i do, have been doing it for 10 years now so starting school now is scaring the hell out of me. i don't know if i'm cut out for it. have any of you had these fears? in high school i did very well and was on honor roll but that was so long ago... are there any books that i could begin reading now that will help me decide if this is something that i could get through? i am terrible at math and don't memorize things easily from books. what should i do???

Where to Purchase???
I am working toward doing that, but right now since I work full time I will be taking CNA, Phlebotomy, and EKG. Then I'll see about gettin A&P and some other's done. I would like to just do it all at once full time but you can't do that when you have a family to feed. Thanks for you input! Mrs Meg

Where to Purchase???
Hello, I am begining my CNA course in January and will need to purchase a stethoscope, gait belt, and blood pressure cuff. I am torn between the Littmann Clasic II SE, and the Cardio III. I am looking to get the best price online without getting ripped off, can any of you share the best online stores to purchase from? Thanks, Mrs. Meg

[color=#365f91]what health care supplies will be needed, and if there is a specific uniform and shoes that need to be purchased from waubonsee or can i purchase them from a uniform store? i was also wondering if there is a required form for the proof of the tb test or will a note from my doctor be sufficient? CNA Pay Options
You are correct you don't need CNA to take Phlebotomy or EKG, but where I live in order to take the shorter class for EKG or Phlebotomy you would need to be licensed in any Allied Health career. Or you can take the entire Phlebotomy or EKG program. However the short class or as they call them here "Workforce Continuing Education Courses" are only a semester long and you come out with your certifications, rather then the full program without having your CNA first, would take an entire year each for both Phlebotomy and EKG. So for someone that is working full time to pay the mortage, like myself the better option for me is getting CNA first, which is 1 semester and them taking the EKG and Phlebotomy continuing education classes which are both also 1 semester and can be taken together in the evening. Resulting in having certification in CNA, Phlebotomy, and EKG, in only 2 semesters.

CNA Pay Options
I am in the same boat, 28 and now deciding that I want to do something other then stare at a computer all day. I have been working in sales and data entry for 10 years now and it's time for a change. I'm begining my CNA course in January. Friday evening class and Saturday morning clinicals. Once again because I can't just quit my high paying job, I have an unemployed husband and mortgage, and a step daughter. But from the research I have done once you have the CNA certification you are allowed to take continuing education classes, such as phlebotomy and basic EKG. These jobs pay slightly higher than CNA/PCT so that is my currect plan. Thought I would give you something else to consider. Good Luck!
