  1. hi. i graduated from pitt in 2002. amy
  2. are other places dating there saline irrigation in the warmers and taking them out after three days. our OR told us that all the saline and water in plastic bottles have to be dated when they are placed in the warmer and taken out three days later if not used becuase the plastic breaks down in the warmers and after three days they are no good.
  3. not only do we have mandatory overtime almost every night because we never staff enought people we also have mandatory down staffing. so the people working 7-3 will get down staffed if we are slow. but then come 3pm or 5pm we do not have enough staff so the 7-3 late and 7-5 people will end up staying for several hours. this is also because we have schedualed cases starting at 5-6-7-8 even 9 at night. just because the doctor is else where in the morning. it gets to be very frustrating.
  4. well i just graduated 2 years ago from nursing school myself and went straight to the OR from school. so i will tell you this. i am now looking to get some experience else where. i enjoyed my OR time.. but (and i don't want to offend anyone) just coming from nursing school i feel like i am loosing some of my nusring knowledge that you may get from working on a floor or icu . anyways to my point if you have a chance to get the experience in an OR do it. because it is something you can have. most of the time OR's are looking for someone with experience. but if you do not want to be stuck there make sure you try other nursing after about two years. i have talked to alot of nurses i work with and they have said after 20years in the OR they don't feel like they would be comfortable going to work any where else but that OR. so i dont' know if that helps
