Georgia State University-FNP
Hi there. It's a hybrid program. You have one week out of the month that you attend all classes on campus. The other weeks in that month you login real time for class and participate like you would as if you were sitting in class. Every now and then they will put up modules that you do on your own time, but you do get tested on that stuff too. Only a couple of classes are set up so that you login and do the class time whenever you like. Otherwise you still have to block out that class day and time to login and participate in class. Several of my rockstar classmates worked full time and did this program too, and I was not one of them! I went from PRN to quitting altogether near the end so I could finish up my clinical hours and focus on boards. So it's definitely possible, but some of my classmates failed classes and ended up falling behind a semester or two due to difficulty keeping up with both full time work and the program. It's a GREAT program, and it prepares you well for boards and real life. There are clinicals every semester and they go simultaneously with the class. Like when you are taking Women's Health, that semester you will also do those clinical hours...along with another class likely (that doesn't have clinical hours). I did the program in 6 semesters or exactly 2 years, and it cost about $15-20K. There are several scholarships available, so I had half of my tuition paid off that way. It's all on their website.

Hey guys, last year they had a new dean that thought eliminating interviews would be less time consuming for faculty, but faculty decided they really need to interview people before they enter the program. They want to get to know everyone. you apply. Then they call you for interview. You go to the interview and sit around a table with the other interviewees. They go over general info with everyone, they they send you out one by one for interview. I noticed everyone around my table seemed to have gotten in. So if you get that far and they get a good feel for you, you are probably pretty much in

I think it's pretty competitive. That's what they told us in the interviews at least. I know of people that have not gotten in, so they def don't take everyone. I don't know how MAT score works. It's definitely not like the TEAS. Because I scored around an 80 on that MAT and thought that was terrible but apparently it was right on track. My Nursing school GPA was 3.72, but my overall from every single college class I've ever taken was something like a 3.3. I'm pretty sure they look at the program GPA of 3.72, which is pretty competitive in nursing.

Hi there, I was just accepted into GSU's FNP program for Spring 2015. What would you like to know? You go to the website and go to admissions and click on Apply Yourself or something like that. It'll take you to the online app and you just follow directions. You have to write an essay, a statement of purpose, upload resume, get at least 2 recommendations and one has to be from a professor if you were in school in the last 5 years, and send in your transcripts. There's some forms to fill out to, but it's all there. It'll check stuff off as you turn it in and you can see what is still pending from you. Good luck!

GPA and TEAS score for admission at GSU
Yes, the scores and grades are definitely trending upwards at GSU. 3.7 and 96% is what I got, and I heard our class is the beginning of a drastic upward change in the average GPA/TEAS score to get in at GSU. I think it has to do with all the people who already have degrees going back to school for a 2nd time now that the recession hit many really hard. Good luck!

GSU (Georgia State) Fall 2010
Yes I'll share. Program gpa of 3.69 and Teas of 96%. I was part of the first group to get letters (probably due to teas score). But all my sciences were A's except for 2 B's in the chems. Hope this helps!

GSU FALL 2010
So far the only thing I've heard is pharmacology is difficult and takes alot of reading and memorizing. Hey 3 weeks before fall isn't bad right?! squeeze in a disney trip for those with kids who feel the guilt of lack of time to spend with them!

GSU FALL 2010
Great info thanks! Please do tell us how the summer schedule works. Like how many weeks break (if any) in between semesters. Just like to know that there is a 'chance' I can go on some sort of vacation to unwind in between.

GSU FALL 2010
My email from the coordinator came to me in my GSU inbox, which I have synced to my iPhone since I NEVER check that account. I'm guessing they just default send all correspondence via school email vs. our personal email. Also, those 2 exams and 5 papers for the NUTR class.. do they release the assignments over the course of the semester or can you potentially finish all assignments quickly and be done with everything before the end of summer?
-
GSU FALL 2010
There's an attachment to the email the coordinator sent all of us indicating what we need for the program. Even tells you which things you need that you can get elsewhere other than meridys if you want. I got the littman classic II... Middle of the line stethoscope after reading some previous posts about it on here.

GSU FALL 2010
The list of courses is on the acceptance letter you received. Says something like "Congrats for getting in, you'll be registering for the following courses:...". I won't be taking the NUTR class over the summer, I'm going to enjoy my last free summer that I'll have for a while vacationing and visiting family . Then it'll be nothing but school, school, school for a while (followed by work, work, work!). I've been working on the long "to do" list and I'm happy to say all I've got left are submitting my drug screen sample (which I will do tomorrow at my local LabCorp), getting the last 2 Hepatitis shots, and attending the CPR class I booked. By the way, that online blood borne pathogen module we had to do was easy.. nothing to stress over, and you can print out your very own cute little certificate of completion when you're done . My box of "supplies" came in yesterday with my uniform (2 pairs), stethoscope, and shoes ! Very exciting! Anyway, looking forward to getting to know my classmates soon!

Calling any Moms in Nursing School
Thanks again for all responses! Tmills, I ONLY applied to GSU's accelerated program due to shortest duration, ease of getting there from NE Atlanta, PRICE, and program reputation. I know I won't regret it!

GSU FALL 2010
Hi all, To those of you accepted into the ACE program, did your ULearn show 2 Pins quizzes? One for Accelerated and one regular? Are we supposed to take both? Because I took the Accelerated one and passed with 100% after a couple of attempts, and I'm still not able to register for classes. It says my date is like August 28 or something like that . When looking at the registration schedule of classes, I can see that others have already started registering. Anyone else having trouble with this? Thanks!

Calling any Moms in Nursing School
Thanks for all the great responses!! I can't tell you how EXCITED I am to begin this journey. It is quite competitive to get into the program as it is, so I feel like getting in is a huge relief in itself and reason enough to push thru and finish the program. Now I have to get thru the 4 semesters in 16 months with my sanity . I will have an almost 4 year old, a 2 year old, and a 6 month old when I begin. My husband is a HUGE help, and the older 2 will be in full time school when I begin. Still looking for help for the baby (I prefer to keep him with a nanny than daycare while he's so small), but there's always daycare if I can't find anything else. Thanks again!

Calling any Moms in Nursing School
Hi everyone, I am SO excited about attending nursing school in the fall! I am a wife and a mother :redpinkhe, and I'll be commuting from the burbs to get to GSU campus downtown for their accelerated program. I wanted to hear from any nurses/nursing students that are also moms to see what your experience was like thru school. I realize it won't be a walk in the park or anything, and I'm certain it will be quite challenging. I'm going to pursue this no matter what. I just wanted to get some idea of what I'm in for. Thanks!
