How exciting! Some of you may remember me from this thread a few weeks ago. I was scheduled to interview with Duke for Fall 2010 but got accepted at UNC's ABSN program in January and decided to head to Carolina. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted and waitlisted (I was waitlisted at UNC and got in 3 weeks before classes started!) So now I'm into week 6 of the program and all I have to say is you better hold on to your hats! No time to warm up or get your feet wet-it's deep end all the way. However, I absolutely love it. Time management is key and do not get behind on anything-you'll be juggling many balls at once but keep up and you'll be fine. Best of luck to everyone!

Hey gals, remember me? I just wanted to pop in and wish whoever is interviewing tomorrow the best of luck! I've survived week two of class at UNC's ABSN program and can't wait for the weekend. Hi guys! Just popping in to say hello before the storm hits. My classes at UNC start on Monday and I already have a TON of required reading to do before we meet. Best of luck to you all with interviews and especially when you get in and bombarded with more than you think you can handle! You all have been so fun to interact with and I pray my classmates at UNC are the same way. Although from the looks of it, I'm not sure I'll even have time to laugh, or much else for that matter. Do you think they make Dora pull-ups that will fit me? GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!

Luckily, I got a call on Friday afternoon and hadn't submitted my application yet. I had done all the entry of work history, activities, volunteering, awards, all that tedious stuff but had not finished updating my essays. You're so sweet to still let me come. I just may because I know it will be a great time! You guys are gonna be so pumped after spending the day at Duke! On Fridays I will be done with class at 2pm...and I'm sure I'll be hungry...and very thirsty.

Thanks you guys so much. I hope the students in my classes are half as fun as yall. Maybe I'll wear my Duke Days outfit to the first day of class. Yet another opportunity to make a lasting impression. Although I will probably leave off the fishnets because my bruises have healed and I want everyone to see my Squidward tattoo-he's carolina blue!

wow-quiet weekend! i hope this means everyone is having fun. well, i have some sad news for me and good news for you guys. in addition to duke, i also applied to unc's absn program and was waitlisted last month. i got a call on friday with an offer to join the january 2010 absn cohort. after weighing the two schools against each other and how it affects my situation (in-state tuition), i've decided to accept their offer and start in january . i have had such a blast joking around with yall and i know you will have a great time in the program. i'm sad that i won't get to join you for beer and bbq, but i'll be in classes by then. on the bright side, there are now 196 applicants to compete for admission! best of luck to you all!!! :anpom: p.s. i'll be calling "her" tomorrow to sadly withdraw my application and cancel my interview at duke days.

Fishnets sound fun if you're sure it wouldn't be too much. They may help cover my bruises and tattoo of Squidward. I'm not liking the sound of adding another Duke Day. Someone needs to find a reason to call "her."

Poor JasonB. I was thinking that the interview would be a good opportunity to set myself apart so they'll remember me. I'm seeing a "Duke Blue" pimp hat with lots of feathers, a frilly-gauzy poet/pirate blouse, a denim skort, my favorite orange fake Crocs, modest jewelry, and knee pads in case I fall down. Thoughts?

Abbie Grace said she was going to be at a meeting all day, so I pm'd her and got her cell # ahead of time and texted her as soon as I got my email. Hopefully she got an email too! I told her we were requesting 1/29.

It's about 15 minutes from Duke without traffic. I'm assuming BBQ after Duke Days is over? Maybe a cold brew or two?

What kind of deals can you get on airfare for those dates? Worst case, you could fly in and out same day and not have overnight expenses.

Not at all! It has been 35 minutes since taz posted that "she" will be sending the email in the next 30 minutes. This far exceeds the limit of acceptable tardiness. This is an outrage! :Crash:

Senior moment, huh? I hurve they al the tim. rubypie: I've got two daughters, age 6 and 8. We've geared up to prepare for my absence. My husband will be working from home more and my mother and mother in law will be popping in to help. ABSN is gonna be like ripping off the band-aid...quick and painful.

OH! Most importantly...the BBQ. In Durham, one of the most popular places is Bullock's. I've had it a couple of times. I grew up in eastern NC eating bbq and my favorite is Smithfield's Chicken and BBQ. I think I'm going to have to go get a bbq sandwich for dinner now that I'm thinking of it. There's not one in Durham but there are locations a few minutes away.

Yes, those are the interview dates per "you know who." Ok....this almost feels as difficult as shouting out how much you weigh at the gym. But I'm pretty sure you can see it on my profile anyway....drumroll.....I'm 35. Wow that stinks. However, I never really made it fully into the realm of maturity. I'm "the one" in my group of friends who's still a nut. I'm on my second career after taking some time off to raise my two daughters, age 6 and 8 and I've been married for 10 years. I started out pre-med, got a BS in biology, worked in healthcare for a couple of years, migrated into sales, did the mom thing, and here I am! You guys make me feel like I'm close to receiving my first free edition of AARP magazine.

We've got quite a group here! It is so helpful to connect with others going through the same thing. Like somebody said earlier, everyone in my life is over my nervous excitement about admissions. And just to clarify: nobody has gotten an OFFICIAL invitation to interview-just in phone conversations with "she who is a gift to Duke." So if you haven't heard anything, don't worry. Nothing has gone out in writing. I didn't want anyone to misunderstand and start wondering what's up. Welcome brinkallz! And anyone else who's reading, join in! We're quickly claiming the 70 spots for the Fall 2010 cohort.

Ditto. I don't get the "cookie cutter" student impression at Duke, which was to my surprise when I began researching where to apply. I expected the opposite of what I have found to be true. I feel at home and comfortable in the actual building, and the faculty that I have interacted with has been more than willing to help and offer advice. I just get that warm fuzzy feeling. :icon_hug: Ain't that sweet?

snoozie-Are you trying to get a job at Duke? I thought Duke grads are guaranteed employment upon graduation. Maybe I dreamed that-
