How does the future look for new grads?
Hi everyone! I graduated March 2011, but since I'm foreign educated it took more or less 4 months for me to receive eligibility to sit for the NCLEX. So there I was, completely stoked for passing the boards, only to find out one month later that what I've heard is true... that it's a very tough market for new nursing graduates. Trying to land a job as a new graduate is disheartening, to say the least. So I have a question, especially for those who have been in this field for a while. Do you think this slump for new graduates will get worse before it gets better? I'm trying to keep my spirits up, reminding myself that tomorrow is another day, but man, I thought the nclex was hard... little did I know that getting a job will be 10x harder!

New Grad First Job Question
Oh yeah, definitely sounds like you're building a lot of skills right there! I'm not very picky at all, so anything that gets thrown my way I'd be allover it at this point! Haha. New here in SD, military wife, and unfortunately it feels as though I'm at the worst place for being a new grad. My husband is medical in the military and in his last duty station, the big boss was handing medical jobs to military spouses before going external. Tomorrow's another day though! I really appreciate your advice! :)

Nursing Schools in the Philippines
Donotuse, I think it is only a 2 year BSN program if you have a previous bachelor's degree. I did that back in 08, took me about 3 years to complete the program (I have a Bachelors degree in Management)... If you check the second page of this thread somebody had posted a list of different nursing schools in the PI. Good luck! :)

immigration question for US citizens taking up BSN in the Philippines
not a problem! :) you can stay in the philippines for as long long as you would like! the next immigration step after you get your dual citizenship approved is to apply for a philippine passport so that you may be able to leave the country anytime you wish. taxes need to be filed annually in the US. that's about it! sounds easy huh? that's because it actually is!!! good luck to you, legobeast88! :)

immigration question for US citizens taking up BSN in the Philippines
Hi legobeast88! I did the same thing last year- came back "home" to the Philippines to pursue Nursing School as it would cost a fraction of what it will be back in the US, among other things. I am more than halfway done with school and quite honestly this is the best decision for me as I have a toddler who likes to run around practically the whole day. I was clueless with what immigration approach to take last year as well so I asked the Philippine Bureau of Immigration for advice. I was told that the easiest way to go was to apply for Dual Citizenship. Within 2 weeks my daughter and I were approved and it saves me the hassle of getting an extension permit one after another, or applying for an ACR (I heard these 2 are more costly too!). As far as steps for school application... have you decided what school to go to? Personally I did a walk in in the school that I was interested in. The following day I enrolled. It was easy as that. They could however, ask what your status is so I advise that you apply for Dual Citizenship before enrolling so that you will not be considered a foreign student and have to pay extra fees, not to mention have to provide all the extra requirements. I hope this helps. The best of luck to you! :)

Dual Citizen- need clarifications
Thanks gillbert! :) After trying to connect for hours, I was finally able to talk to someone from the CA BON and they said license in the Philippines is not necessary in my case in order to be eligible to take the NCLEX. Finally I can sleep well tonight. Haha. Thanks for your help! :)
