There are some people who are very good at answering questions without studying. I had some classmates like that. If you're one of those you're lucky! But if you're like me that's weak in content and answering questions, I suggest to study the content first especially on topics that you commonly hear in a clinical setting. I think a month of studying content is good enough. Don't stress too much on some topics that you might find to be less important ( I know every topic is equally important) like eye disorders, ears, etc. We can't always know everything that's out there it's impossible. I had a topic on sleep apnea and sleep disorders on my test that I never even looked at or studied but because I learned the strategy book from kaplan I was able to answer it without difficulty. I suggest to study on the strategy of answering questions and practicing questions for about 2 weeks consistently so you'll get it in your head. :)

I feel your pain believe me I had a fear of failing it multiple times but always have hope and faith. IF you're able to pass the PN then you're able to pass the RN, remember that. It just takes time and patience. I noticed that you used both Saunders and Kaplan for all three times. I suggest you used a more challenging book like the PDA book because it really mirrors the NCLEX and it helps with your critical thinking skills. I know for most that Kaplan works for everyone but for me I knew it didn't work. I relied on Kaplan and failed the first time with 75 q's.(I kind of think that Kaplan is overrated in terms of their 100% pass rate, but I think it only works for those who are strong in content, which wasn't me) So I changed my method of studying and knew Kaplan didn't work for me because I need more content. I went back to study Saunders ONLY for content and did PDA for my critical thinking. I also took a shot at Kaplan again doing only the Qtrainers 1-7 and I only did this to gain confidence as I was scoring in the 60s (The first time around my scores were in the 50s). Then I used the kaplan strategy book (the blue thin book) just for strategies alone and additional questions. I would say for the last 2 weeks just focus mainly on the PDA book and do this straight through so you will catch on how to answer these 'higher level' type questions. My scores were pretty low but scores didn't hurt my confidence. I focused on rationales and really understand the 'why' for every question you pick. Believe me this will save you in answering any question by knowing how to answer the 'why.' The NCLEX is not trying to trick us but it wants us to think. I always tell people to respect the test because it isn't easy but it's not difficult either. Sorry for the long response. No problem I'll email them right to you. Trust me the infection control will save you on the test. I think I remember literally getting ALOT of infection control especially when to use gloves, gown, mask, and even goggles. Before the day of my exam, I just reviewed the PDA book and all the rationales. Although I did terrible on the PDA (scoring 40s, 50s, 60, and some 70s) I FOCUSED on the rationales. I really think scores don't matter it's quality not quantity that matters :) I also read the AN guide just to refresh what I've studied and labs and PSY medications (I highly recommend you looking at it quickly especially Clozaril in and out). On the day of the exam I didn't bother looking at anything because I didn't think it made much difference to retain anything else. You'll do great!!!! Prayers to you! Hi starleviosa! I understand what you're going thru! Don't be nervous! if anything when you feel like you're sick of studying or tired of doing questions it really means you're ready!! That's how I felt this past last week up until test day. I tested just this past Wednesday and I couldn't RELAX!! I was nervous at the testing site not to mention seeing another person testing for the NCLEX studying his notes! Besides that, the only tip I can give you during the test is to take your precious time and take as long as you want! Don't worry about how many q's you get. I finished in 4 hours and my test stopped at 75 qs! I really thought I failed big time because my first time around I failed at 75. I was crying all the way home but I had hope and sure enough got the good POP UP! (But I'm still in shock and doubting that I passed even with the pop up....I won't believe it until I see it officially!) Oh another thing really know your infection control and understand what's standard precaution. I have notes that I found that really explains infection control step by step if you like. I think it really helped. GOOD LUCK!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

Thanks for your input! I do have an open mind and really consider going into the Navy but even I hear it's getting hard to get in! CA is pretty tough even though more jobs are opening but then more ppl are graduating! I know so many ppl who are already or about to graduate very soon this year including myself and it is pretty scary! I feel desperate!!!!! Also, it is who you know that will get you hired!! (other than personality, exp, etc.) Well it will make us more special if you can get hired and did all the work yourself without anyone's help. So hard work will reward us better! (I hope! ) That's just my thought.

You are right, I do see the pattern that they seem to hire a lot from out of state! (which is not fair!! sorry to say, but congrats to those from out of state to get hired!) CA is soooo impacted now that I feel like I need to get out of CA! lol! We'll keep our hopes up and I'm sure we'll all find something somewhere.... good luck freshnewnurse11!!!!

Oh no I was in the group of ppl who were interviewed already in the month of April so we haven't gotten any results or calls back of our status. They mentioned making decisions on May 16th and now it sounds like they're interviewing another set! So that gives me more reason to believe that I'm off the hook! lol! but good luck in your interview!!!

Looks like liver icu is interviewing more ppl! I guess this is a sign that I'm out of the game! which is torture for making us wait this long!!!! good luck for those interviewing!!

Hi RN1218, I feel your pain!!!!! I also emailed her and got the same thing but I heard someone said in the thread that she'll make calls on may 16th but that's still too too long! I wish she woulda made a decision for those who didn't get the position way before she left so we can just move on!!!!! Our unit is taking really long compared to others, it's insane!!! Otherwise good luck to everyone!!!!!

I asked and she said 10 spots open, but then she also mentioned that sometimes she may take a few more if she feels that some have the qualifications! soooo still hopeful! :) did anyone asked how many ppl they are interviewing for liver tx?

Hi RN1218, don't worry I'm sure you did great on the interview! I also completed mine today too with liver tx and from what i remember she asked me at least 10 q's and I feel that each q's kinda flowed along the next. So we'll see how it goes but I know each dept is different. I'm very surprised that some only had 2 questions! I was told also that we'll hear back from them in two weeks, and the other lady said they mite call us for a second interview if they want to go forward with us.....ppl hear different things tho so we'll see.
