I have to take 30 critical thinking CEU's I found some at Homesteadschools.com/nursing Has anyone used them? I don't see them on the BON but they said they are accredited in 50 states. Can anyone help?

First of all, thanks to those of you who had intelligent input. As for the others who want to nit pick at a serious subject- get a life. It was a typo get over yourself! Ok, so to update. I r/o mental illness because at first the doctors were looking at eating disorders. This woman used to be 125lbs and after her second child and throughout the illness she has went down to 110lbs and now is currently at around 155lbs. She is about 5'4. Anyhow, since my first post. This pt. has been re-admitted to the hospital about 2x's a month. She is seeing specilist. They are wanting to get a medical team together to try and figure out her illness. But she does not have insurance-go figure. So anyway, She has recently found out that she has a hiatal hernia. The doctors have also removed polyps from her colon. Her potassium levels were at a deathly, she was hospitalized over it. Every time she eats anything with alot of fat content she is hospitalized by the next day. I will keep those of you who are interested updated. Thus far, nothing promising... btw- she is not just a patient, she is my family

So I know we are all nurse and we cannot diagnose an illness or disease. But I'm not asking for either of these. I am asking for advice. Here is the dilemma: 24 y/o female, with 2 children. First pregnancy went fine. Sometime between her first and second child she became ill. Had been hospitalize several times for extremely high bp (140/189) and excessive vomiting. After she had gotten pregnant with her second child she was hospitalized about 2 times a month. Each time for hbp, nausea and vomiting. All signs point to preeclamsia (which was her diagnosis) They told her to terminate her pregnancy. She however did not, and during her pregnancy got extremely ill yet again in her 2rd trimester and they then did surgery and took out her gallbladder. She eventually had a healthy baby. The labor process was bad. Her bp went threw the roof and she projectile vomited across the room. The thought she might die. She was eventually better and was sent home. But the illness did not stop there. She spends just about 1 week every month in the hospital. They ruled out mental illness. It gets so bad she has to be tube fed. Now they want to take out her pancreas. And they are saying that the reason she has hbp is due to stomach ulcers. They gave her pain meds and a nitroglycerin due to her hbp. I google and googled and I cannot find a correlation with these events. The doctors are dumbfound. They told her they cannot figure out why this keeps happening. Idk, they are pretty much saying she has some kind of mystery disease that is causing all these problems. She does not have any std, or blood born pathogen. Has anyone ever came across such a thing during the years they have worked? And if so, what sort of diagnosis have you heard of?

thanks! I have another question. I have just been informed of another interview. But I start this new job tom. This other job pays like 4 bucks more and I really wanna take it.... how soon could I quite this new job. I don't want to quite now, b/c I am not forsure if I have the other job yet, but if I get it, I wanna take it. So Would I still have to put in a 2 weeks. Or just t tell them I quite?

It's the swine!! Ok, we all know that the swine flu aka H1N1 is a new strain of the flu and it has been very deadly. Seriously though, is it any more deadly than the regular flu? I don't know what to think, the media hypes everything up. All we can do is ignore the media...and do our jobs. Wash you hands.... follow precaustions. There is not much else we can do. Get the vaccine or not, who cares. It's your choice! If you are sick, stay home and get well...and avoid spreading it all over the darn country. Common sence people! So I just wish everyone would take a chill pill.... we are only human. I'm just so annoyed, and tired of hearing about it! What do you guys think?? Should we be shaking in our boots?

In Kentucky you have to complete 120 under the supervision of a nurse. You have to do this before you submit your NCLEX results and college transcript or whatever to get your license in the mail. So untill then you are considered a Practical Nurse Applicant. I have had a mock interview and the guy said I was hired. He told me as soon as I passed my boards I had a job if I wanted. This is why I was questiong when I start looking, I didnt know if that was common or not. But when I was a CNA the same thing happend. They always ask me, 'when can you start.' I dont want to have to make a decision then and there...excpecially if im still looking. But I dont want to miss out if nothing else comes along.

I have recently graduated and passed my nursing boards for LPN. I have yet to complete my 120 mandatory hours, and I am seeking a job. Do new nurses have to settle for lower grade jobs due to lack of experience?? Also, how much lower pay should we expect before completion of the 120 hours, and then therefore after? Also, when going on interviews...do you have to tell them you accept the job then and there? Or can you say you will let them know, that you are keeping your options open? And you will inform them of your decision asap. I don't wanna settle for the first place that calls me and hate it, but I also dont wanna be w/o a job. I am not sure on how to go about this.. Any answers or suggestions??

Ahhhh. I really hope you guys are right. I feel like I'm the only one who has ever experienced this!! I think I will just be honest with the person I do my 120 hours with and maybe they can help me out! I think my biggest fear is just passing out and looking stupid. I know I can do the IV it self...I am just scared I might get dizzy.

No, I am not joking. I have never had the chance. Alot of students have not done it either. It's pretty crazy actually!! I have never done a foley cath either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just recently graduated and passed my NCLEX (about 2 hours old) :Dwanting to go back to school this January to continue my education. I was wondering if anyone knew any information regarding an LPN specializing in geriatrics. Do you have to become an RN first? Or is there just one class? Any info/links would be appreciated! I'm from ky...I tried to research this myself...but I have gotten nowhere!! Also, I only need a few more classes to have my Associates in Applied Science...is this a waste of time??

Awesome! That is exactly how I feel!! So I really really hope that i can get pass this! I wonder what would happen If I did get dizzy after poking a patient. Gah that would be so humiliating!

I hope you are right! I have watch a ton of videos on starting IV's to try to decinsitize (sp) myself from this. I just remember when I first started nursing school about 2 years ago, I had to do this clinical rotation in the lab. After watching so many sticks I felt fine. But then, for some reason... out of the middel of no were i got dizzy. (of course that was 2 years ago, and I have grown as a nurse since then) For some reason this fear has stuck w/ me...I just hope I can over come it.

Aww thanks. Druing clinicals I have watched surgeries and such with no problem. Idk tho. For some reason I am just extreamly afraid that when I start working I will pass out and look like an idiot in front of the patient or co workers. haha. I hope you are right. I'm scared!!

I recently graduated in May, 2009. I am waiting on my NCLEX results as we speak. I have not started working as a nurse yet. Here is my dilemma: I am afraid I may pass out whenever I start working and have to start an IV!! The whole time I was in nursing school I never had an opportunity to start and IV with my teacher. I almost did...and I felt fine. But every time I go to the doctor and they draw my blood I get super dizzy and almost faint. I sorta feel stupid. Every I talked to in person asks me why did I become a Nurse if I don't think I can handle this. Truth is, I thought I could over come it. But Iv never had the chance. And now I'm afraid that when I start my first job I'm going to make an ass of my self. ps. I'm not afraid of needles. I have gave a ton of shots. Maybe its the vein I hate so much! ADVICE PLEASE!!:chair:

i tried the trick. i tried doing it with the option that i have taken the exam before, and i tried doing it with the option that i had not taken the exam before...both ways i got this message "our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. please contact your member board for further assistance. another registration cannot be made at this time." i did not let me pay... so basically i read somewhere that 85% pass the nclex the first time. so i'm thinking that....maybe the trick is just a coincidence that everyone is gettin this pop up...idk what i'm trying to say. i think i am losing my mind.. gahhh. does anyone know if you have to wait 48 hours after your appointment time or 48 hours after the time you finished your exam?? :smackingf:bugeyes::chair:

does anyone know when doing this 'trick' if you are sopposta put that you have taken the exam before?
