  1. I am truly jealous! I am in a similar situation, except that I am one year into nursing. I work nights on a med-surg floor and I absolutely hate it. It's not just my floor or med surge or nights. It's nursing. I know that nursing is not for me, especially hospital nursing. I do my best everyday, but I am ready to change careers and never look back. My dream is to teach middle school or high school science! I was only about 5 classes away from graduating with my BS in biology when I decided I wanted to give nursing a try and I went for an associates degree in nursing. (I don't know why!) I recently finished my BSN. I have been looking into alternative certification programs. My only concern is to put time and money into one of these programs and not be able to find a teaching job. Although I know that if I really want it, I can make it happen. I am so happy for you!
  2. I would like a copy! Thank you. I am a student doing an OB rotation at a state hospital. This would be a great help. :)
  3. Congratulations on graduating! Thank you!
  4. Hello all, I was thinking experienced nurses might be able to help more than the student board. I am a nursing student and I will be graduating in December 2011 from an ADN program. (Halfway, yay!) I really want to get my BSN right away. The program I want to apply to starts in January. (I know that I need to get my info directly from the school, but they are on vacation for the next week and the website does not mention anything about licensing as far as program requirements and I am really curious) ...My question is... In your experience, do the RN-BSN programs usually require you to have your license before you apply? Or, do you think it would be possible to apply, graduate in December, take/pass NCLEX to get my license as long as i get my license before RN-BSN classes start in January? I also had another question while I am here... My New Year's Resolution is to find a tech job. I put together a decent resume and cover letter. I had it evaluated by my school's career center, so I know it's not terrible. I have put in a bunch of applications, but have not recieved any calls, just automated email denials. How do I go about getting one of these positions? I have tried calling a few hospitals, but the secretaries won't provide contact info/names for the recruiters (and I am veryyy polite) Any advice to help with my goal? Thanks so much everyone!:heartbeat
  5. I recently did mine as a student looking for a tech/externship. If you do a board search on here, you can find some helpful posts from the past. I also found this website helpful http://www.dcardillo.com/articles.html What I included: -summary of qualifications -nursing education -certifications/activities/volunteer -student nurse clinicals -employment However, I am still a student, so I am not sure how much different yours would be since you are graduating. I do not have any healthcare experience. This is why I included my previous employment then also student nurse clinicals. I made it clear that I was a student and these experiences were student clinical rotations. I put where I did clinicals, what class/floors (ex. med-surg, critical care), dates, and one or two bullets about my skills/what I learned there. Hope this helps :)
  6. Thanks everyone! I called and left a message. She called back and left me a message (I was trying to not miss her call, but I had my puppy at the vet and couldn't anwser) and told me that she would love to write me a letter of recommendation! And to call her on Monday because she was not working today. Yay!
  7. I know, I really wanted to talk to her over the phone and then meet in person. I didn't think I should leave a message just because I am asking her a favor, so i wouldn't expect her to have to return my call. Does that make sense? But, your advice does make sense, also. I think I will make another attempt to call, if not I will write an email. Re: the envelope/stamps I had no idea. This is my first time doing this and my research from the internet suggested it was more thoughtful/organized to provide stamps/envelope. But, I like your idea better. I will definitely tell her I would like to pick them up, if that is okay with her. Thanks so much for the thoughtful response! It is much appreciated.
  8. Thanks! I am going to go ahead and email her. I agree with you! We talked about it and what type of positions I would be applying for, etc. But, I did not have a resume, cover letter, specifics etc to give to her at the time to help her write the letters. I have all of that now! In the future, I will definitely be prepared when talking to instructors/preceptors/nurses. That way I don't run in to this problem of trying to conact them later on.
  9. I called one of my former professors twice, but I have not been able to get a hold of her. I am calling to ask her if I can set an appointment to meet with her to talk about possibly writing a letter of recommendation. I want to talk to her in person and give her all the resume, cover letter, positions i am applying for, envelope and stamps, etc. She does not have an office at the school. She only does clinicals. She is a nurse manager at the hospital where we did clinicals. I could probably meet with her there if she is okay with that at an okay time. I did not leave messages when I called. I know she is a busy lady, so I wouldn't expect her to call me back. Anyways, the question is... Is it okay to send an email to ask her if I can meet with her sometime about this? Or, is an email not polite/professional? (I had her for clinical aug-oct for med-surg. During my eval, she gave me an extremely positive review and offered to write me letters of recommendation, etc. Also, I am applying for externships/student tech positions. I graduate december 2011) Thanks for the help!
  10. Thank you! I just sent an email.
  11. Hi! I am a nursing student in an associate degree RN program. I am halfway through the program. I am applying to externships in my area that are open to ADN nursing students. However, I have no clue what to include or not include on my resume... Can anyone help me please? I copied my resume below. (changed some personal information) This fits on one page. Should I include details about my jobs/clinical experiences and make it two pages? Or leave it one page and leave off the details such as accomplishments, tasks, etc (leave it as it is)? What about my past jobs, even though they are not relevant to nursing, should I include them? As you can see..I really need some help with this. Help/advice please? Thank you so much! Deleted copy of resume. If anyone is willing to help, I can email you my resume. :)
  12. I don't think you can use your financial aid at two different institutions. It would be best to call the financial aid office of your school and they should be able to tell you.
  13. I have also seen it for neuropathic pain. Ex. recent amputation and throat/neck cancer.
  14. Do you have kids? Family to take care of? Any other responsibilities? If so, you might be pulled in too many directions and it could be too stressful. If not, it is definitely doable. Time management is key!! I like what the other poster said about using the time in your car to your advantage. :)
  15. Don't wait until the last minute. Know the topic in and out! If you truly understand what you are talking about, then you should do fine! And last of all, confidence in yourself. You can do it! At most of my clinicals, the nurses take turns giving presentations on certain topics to their peers on the floor. It's not over once you are done with nursing school!
