HI...I FINALLY landed my first hospital job of my RN career and I am stoked! I will be starting on a telemetry unit with the possibility to transfer to CVICU in the near future. I'm really excited. The director told me that my being hired is contingent on successfully completing a Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation class. I was wondering if any one knew of a class that I could take in the southern California area.

Do you know what hospitals are doing these refresher courses..or is this still in the planning and discussions phase?

I'm a "new grad" I graduated in May. I am currently working for a cardiologist in his clinic. I practically do MA work (vitals and the like). While I am grateful to have some money and a job, I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared that when the freeze lifts, no one will want to hire me. I'm scared that I am going to lose my skills and forever be condemned to working in a doctors office. How to I stay on top of my skills???

So I'm a new grad that recently landed a job at a doctor's office and while I am SUPER grateful to have a job in this recession, it was never really was what I wanted. Needless to say I am concurrently looking for a new job in a hospital and would like to make myself more marketable by getting my PALS, ACLS, EKG certification. The only problem is....I work the 9-5 Mon-Fri which often turns into the 9-7 (my Dr is a slow poke). I live in Southern California (LA/OC area). Does anyone know of any Weekend classes I can attend?

Wow...that's pretty intense. I understand we try to play the "separation of church and state" game every now and then...but its rather obvious that there is no separation. Even so, whatever happened to freedom of expression and religion??? I think as long as its not offensive to anyone else or threatening...than for God's sake, whats the big deal? Anyway..turns out the HR rep that told me that I wasn't allowed to wear my head scarf had no clue what he was talking about. Someone from HR called me today, hired me and apologized for the utter display of ignorance.

Yah...its ludicrous....not only will I not take the job...but I will definitely file a complaint with the civil rights committee at CAIR. We preach religious freedom...this totally steps all over it. I won't take no for an answer.

The interview at the doctors office went well. Its a cardiology office...they do IV meds, pacemaker checks, echo's etc, so I have no fear of losing my skills. It seemed the Doctor was really impressed with me. But there is a uniform policy (I'm a Muslim woman and I cover my head with a scarf). The HR rep who sat in the meeting with me told me "we have a uniform policy, you can't wear that head dress." To which I told him "with all due respect, if that's the case, i can't take this job." I'm desperate for a job...but not THAT desperate.....that's discrimination!!!

that's great to hear. I've been applying to practically EVERY hospital in my area and abroad and only recently have I started receiving calls back. Call me stupid, but I turned down a job at a Nursing Home. I just didn't see myself being happy there. I went into Nursing because I wanted to enjoy my job..and the nursing home wasn't cutting it for me. My parents think I should take any job. I actually have an interview at a doctors office (cardiology) tomorrow...its not a hospital..but it beats a Nursing Home. I guess. I was given advice that I should even apply for a job at a receptionist at a hospital because they hire within first...what do you think?
