I am now working on an inpatient BMT unit. I've only had one night on the floor so far but I loved it! So much to learn but it's so fascinating to me that I enjoy studying it. Originally when I decided to do nursing it was b/c I knew it would further my career in research however, I had a strong desire to.be at the bedside doing patient care. Not sure if and/or when I'll get back to research but I've experienced the side of it that truly turned me off so I won't be back for a while. Just my take though. I know some who love it and definitely could have gone very far in a research career if I were passionate about it. Thanks for the well wishes :)

Doesn't seem like anyone is following but that's okay. I always like to read happy updates from new grads so here's one from me for someone else out there looking for reassurance. I got a job! Finally! I'll be starting in November and will be working on the BMT Unit. I'm ECSTATIC

Hi everyone! I graduated in May and now have two interviews next week. One (face-to-face) where I live locally on a tele/med-surg floor at a prestigious cancer center where I've worked for the past 6 years in an administrative research position and the other (phone) out of state at a well known academic medical center for an oncology research nurse position. I desperately want floor experience so am likely to go with the med-surg tele position locally if given the option of both. Ultimately I wouldn't mind relocating but will try to put that off after I get at least a year of experience under my belt. Any tips or advice? I'm very nervous as although I've worked at a cancer center for years my clinical exposure has been limited. Add that to the fact that I graduated way back in May and this is October and I'm officially doubting whether or not I"m capable. And I'll be starting my RN-BSN program in January so this timing could be a wee bit stressful:banghead:. Help, lol. What have your experiences been like so far?

Updated: I got a phone interview! Very nervous since I don't have the clinical experience outside of school but I'm hoping my 6+ years in research academia on the regulatory side will serve me well and help with the learning curve on the clinical side. We'll see...is anybody out there, lol??

Help! After graduating with my BS in Health Care Management in 2006 I began working for a popular cancer center in Florida as a research coordinator. Shortly after I became a Reg Affairs Specialist and became certified as a CRC through ACRP. I decided I wanted to be a bedside nurse and wanted a more clinically based career (the Reg Affairs Specialist position is strictly administrative) so I went to nursing school and graduated in May with my A.S.N. I passed my boards however, the facility I work for has decided not to employ me as an RN (despite having paid for my nursing degree) because I do not have a BSN and they are seeking magnet status. As such, I am still working in research as a Regulatory Affairs Specialist because no one in my area seems to want to hire an Associate prepared nurse with no experience(despite the fact that I am beginning an RN to BSN program in January 2013). I have decided to relocate to the Nashville, TN area (family there, lived in Florida all of my life and ready for a change) and although I'm extremely interested in cardiology and desire to work as a nurse on a cardiac specialty unit, I believe my 6.5 years working in research coupled with my nursing license may allow me to secure a Research Nurse position in the Nasvhille area as opposed to a staff nurse position. I also do pretty well for myself financially in my current research position and, given that I am a single mother who is the sole supporter of my son, think I may be in a better position if I stayed with the research path and utilized my nursing degree in that way. I'm very torn though. Any thoughts, opinions or advice someone could give would be wonderful. My apologies as I know this post may seem scattered...

Hey everyone ! Long time no talk to. I've clearly been living under a rock this semester. Hope everyone's semester went well. Our Kaplan is today and then we're finished for the next 3 weeks *wine!!! So happy I made it out of NP1 alive ('cause sometimes I didn't think I would, lol). Anywho, just stopping in to say hello. Congratulations to all those that will be entering Spring semester. Hi Swarner, Outside of the minimum stated requirement, is anyone familiar with the real actual minimum GPA and TEAS test scores needed to enter the program? For instance, with my program the minimum GPA according to the school is a 2.5. However, the minimum GPA typically accepted can vary from about a 3.1- a 3.5.

Can someone give an estimate as to the required GPA for the Valencia program. Also if anyone knows the same info for Seminole State that would be helpfull. Trying to find out some information for a friend. Thanks everyone and congrats btw :).

Hope, I attend the PC Campus and am in the nights/weekend program. We've got to do 10 nursing lab hours on one of the campuses (to practice skills) prior to going to in-hospital clinicals. This is outside of our lecture (T & W 5-8pm) and clinical days (S 6:30am-5:30pm). We also have to do computer hours but these aren't required to be done on campus, they can be done at home. We also have to do a community service project whereby we're required to attend/assist with a health-related event (could be a walk or something along those lines). This is particularly challenging if you're doing the night and weekend program, which in my case I chose because I work in the daytime M-F. Our Saturdays are taken up by clinicals. So no clue when I'm going to find time to do these things. But hey, if there's a will there's a way (I hope!).

We get to use calculators (only basic and they're provided by our instructor). Ladies can I get more details on clinical? Did your sneakers literally have to be all white? How much did you need to retain from the assigned P&P reading? How are you feeling about doing clinicals in the hospitals now (any less nervous at all...please say yes 'cause I'm absolutley petrified)? Do we need a stopwatch or am I pulling that out of the air? Details people, lol.

Shamani, 3.714? You got this one in the bag. Trust me on that :) I believe Spring is less competitive than Fall and, if I'm not mistaken, the floor for Fall was like 3.41 or something. At any rate, consider yourself accepted and enjoy the next few months!!!

I'm such a ball of nerves this AM (I also have a job interview before I come to school to hopefully secure a more clinically related position...so many balls to juggle!!!!). At any rate, when people continue to stare at me as if I have a third eye and ask how I'm going to be successful with everything I've got going on I often end up second-guessing myself. And then, just when that happens yet another person currently in the program makes his/her way to our thread to let us know that it will all be okay Shamani drop them off in person and include a self-addressed envelope so you have your own verification that the items were received. i still can't complete the orientation. i keep receiving an "access denied" error. this time i was at least able to complete the test for module one but couldn't access any other module

Nick, I can't complete the Baycare orientation! I can't at all at home and I've been trying at work (shhhhh ) and I keep getting locked out. Super frustrated. Keenblondie thank you for the info!! Does anyone know if they carry the scissors and badge holder in the bookstore? Elga which campus are you attending?

Keenblondie, can you please tell me what the specific title of the book that you refer to as the "Nursing Diagnoses book" is? I don't see anything that fits that description on our list of supplemental materials. Is this it (listed in required on the current syllabus): Nurse's pocket Guide: Diagnoses, Prioritized Interventions, and Rationales. 12th Ed.Philadelphia: F.A. Davis Company.

Just emailed the prof to see what other supplemental books to purchase. I've decided to purchase the NCLEX review book and, if no other definitive recommendations are given, that will be all. Also, the DM campus finally has the Well Elderly books if anyone else needs them.
