  1. Thank you :) I currently am not on any medications, but I do it really healthy!! I will admit I don't exercise too much, but I do enjoy my hikes. I am going to look into medication, and I am also going to start exercising more in order to clear my head!
  2. Question for all of you nurses/students! I have had ADD since I can remember... I haven't been on medication since I was 12, and I am now almost 28. I am starting my pre-reqs, and when I took Biology last semester it was the hardest class I have ever had!! After taking BIO I felt devastated because I wasn't sure I could get through all the science pre-reqs and nursing school. I really hate how ADD meds make me feel, but I feel I should start taking meds to help me through school. Do any of you suffer with severe ADD and take meds? I am the worlds biggest scatter, brain and I have the hardest time focusing on anything. Having ADD has not only been a challenge with school but also with any job I have ever had. Words of encouragement would be wonderful :)
  3. Where do you live? I would love to volunteer at the l&d unit! I will need to go to different hospitals and see if they offer that volunteer position. :)
  4. That is a good idea. That would be awful if I took medication and it turned out really bad right before a test!! Just thinking about that makes me nervous!! haha
  5. I was diagnosed with ADD at the age of 6, and having ADD has been a big challenge for me. I have not been on medication since I was around the age of 12 and now I am almost 28. I have a very hard time focusing in school and although I have managed good grades for the past two years I have decided to finally start taking my pre-reqs... I took BIO last semester and it was extremely difficult for me especially the memorizing. Are any of you taking any medication for ADD while doing pre-reqs? Does it help? I really hate the way ADD medication makes me feel, but I do remember when I was younger it really helped me focus and do better in school. Any advice?
  6. Thank you so much!!!! I am going to take anatomy and see how that goes :) I feel like I need to give it another shot. Also you are right, I feel after taking Bio I realized how I should be studying. Taking a science class is much different than humanities or english classes. I think it caught me off guard!
  7. Last semester I took Biology to get a taste of science....... well turns out I hated it. I am an A student, but received a C in Bio and felt proud of that C! Hardest class ever! Granted the teacher was not the best, but I still had a very hard time focusing.Anyway, to say the least it terrified me and I lost my drive to do nursing mainly because I was scared of the nursing pre-reqs. So my question is: are there any nurses who hated and dreaded every moment of their pre-reqs but once you got into the nursing program you loved it? I think right now I could just use some encouragement. I have most of my GE's finished, but I still have those science classes that need to be finished :)
  8. I just did a job shadow and they told e before to where something nice but then when I arrived I had to wear scrubs... not sure why they said wear something nice when they were going to just put me in scrubs! haha
  9. I hate everything about vomit.. I have had this phobia since I can remember and I am now 27. I am determined to get over it but I know it will take therapy and lots of it. It is so weird to have a "vomiting" phobia... it is kind of embarrassing because a lot of people don't understand it... even my very own BF. Not that I expect him too... Anyway I want to be a nurse so bad and I feel this may be the one thing that pushes me to get over my fear. The other day I went to shadow a nurse in L&D and the person I got assigned too (of course) had a patient whose husband was violently ill with the flu or food poisoning... Luckily while I was in the patients room he didn't get sick but the whole time i felt incredibly anxious.. I knew if he started getting sick I would have to politely excuse myself lol Anyway, I have an appointment with a counselor in two weeks.... I am desperate to get better so I can be a nurse without constant anxiety.
  10. This phobia has taken over my life at times. I am hoping to start therapy for this in December but I question how much it will help! My phobia is so bad I can't even help my daughter when she is sick I ask others help out... I know people are going to read this and think I am a horrible mother. I really want to overcome this, not just because I want to be a nurse, but because its freaking tiring to always feel anxious about something! It is awful and I am ready to do whatever it takes to get over this.
  11. Who had emetophobia before nursing and was able to overcome it? I am not talking about people who find it gross.... I want to become a nurse more than anything the only thing getting in my way is fear of vomit. I know it sounds ridiculous but it has something I have dealt with since a child. Any advice would help!
  12. Thank you so much!!! I appreciate your response.
  13. I couldn't find any recent posts to this question so here we go: I am currently doing pre-reqs and I will be done within a year or less. I am feeling overwhelmed by the amount of programs in the bay area. I am looking for an RN program, but I feel every school either has a huge wait list, a lottery, or the program is extremely competitive!! Does anyone know of a good school in the bay area that does not have a wait list or is easier to get into? Give me some advice on how to get into a program! Also I have noticed that a lot of students apply at several RN programs at the same time, but how do you do that if some schools require different pre-reqs? I am SO overwhelmed!!!
  14. YES I know how you are feeling!!!! I just want to be done with my pre-reqs!
  15. Can someone please tell me what school they think is the best for surgical tech in the los angeles area? I have done SO much research my head is going to explode!!! Has anyone had a good experience anywhere? Please help me! :)
