Bananimal thanx for the post. Hey what school do you go to, a community college of univeristy? I don't start school till august and I'm wondering If I should hold out buying these programs until I find out if my school offers them free also.

Thank you so much I am so excited to start school. I think I will continue my education to get my BSN and become a school nurse one day. It's so fun and rewarding working with the little guys, I'm going to miss them.

So I work at a elementry school as a health assistant basically a assistant to the nurse but she is only here 2 days out of the week. So I am here most of the time, and is reffered to as one of the school nurses but I'm only a certified MA. Teachers joke around saying I'm the pretend nurse, but now I'm finally going to be a real nurse. I am so excited I just got my acceptance letter for nursing school!!! I have waited so long and its finally happened I'm finally going to be a real nurse!

So I just got one of these new smart phones:)! I found out you can download all sorts of applications including medical ones. I was wondering if any of you guys have any suggestions on some helpfull Apps that I should download to help me through nursing school? Also what medical Apps do you have on your phone? i am new to school nursing this is the first year i am working as a health assistant at a elementary school, absolutely love my job, but i keep getting sick off and on. i know it most likely due to being exposed to a lot of new germs and my immune system is trying to build up, but i was wondering do you guys have any tips or tricks to stay healthy while working in a health office? i am taking my vitamins, washing my hands all the time, sanitizing my desk area and office, have an air purifier and i have still gotten sick a handful of times this year. just curious on what you guys do to help prevent getting sick and about how many times do you come down with something during the year?

Yeah we did I got CPS on it right away.

So to add to my strange office visits for the week, I had a 3rd grader sent up here because her hands were purple. I don't mean just a little purple like deep dark violet purple, like she was squishin grapes all morning or got in a fight with barney or the purple people eater. So I asked here what was on her hands she didn't know all she said was she dropped a bottle and it broke so she tried cleaning it up and her hands turned purple. (when she was sayin this to me I was thinking the whole time where is your mother.) So I called mom, of course she only speaks spanish, luckily her older son spoke English and I asked him What she got into and he said it was the first aid antiseptic medication called Gentian violet. So we tried washing her hands a few times with little success. Then here teacher called and bless her heart she used to be a pharmacy tech :bowingpurand found out vodka and rubbing Alcohol will take it off. Since I left my vodka ant home we tried the rubbing alcohol. It worked like a charm. Within minutes I had the stu depurplefied. T.G.I.F Have a Gr8 well deserved weekend everybody.

I can top that one unfortunatly I had a 2nd grader come to me a few days ago and she said her brother lets her watch the saw movies and Rated R movies at home. We found out because she was brought to the office for drawing x rated pictures. I don't know what parents are thinking nowadays.:flmngmd:

so i had this little girl sent up to the office yesterday and on her card it said had a bird leg in her pocket. well first i asked her where she got this bird leg. (hoping there was not a bird outside on the playground hopping around on one leg). she said her dad gave it to her, what a relief. i said honey you shouldn't be touching things like that they are covered with germs and bacteria, she said " no me and dad rubbed hand sanitizer on it". then i told her to wash her hands and not to put her hands back in her pocket today. i went to talk to the teacher and sure enough it was a real dead bird leg the teacher confiscated from her it had talons and all. i asked the teacher how did she find out she had it, she said this little girl is a drama queen and she was supposable showing some other students the bird leg and one said "that's a ugly bird leg" and it made her upset so she went and wined to the teacher about it. this is my first year working in a health office at an elementary school, and the kids at my school do the craziest things i swear, but at least i get a good laugh every now and a again. so i was wondering do any of you guys out there have any crazy funny stories like this one.

Hey quotetheraven I have a question for ya. What does the Nursing school schedual look like at MCC I'm currently on the waiting list, been on since last october. I was wondering do they offer night or weekend classes. Thanx for you help. Best Luck to you

Yeah It seems like some parents don't have common sense if their kiddo is sick to keep them home take care of them. Not send them to school where they can make others sick and just be miserable. Adding to the above post I can't stand it when I get a sick kiddo early in the morning and I ask them If they told mom or dad that they were not felling well, and the parents don't do anything for them and tell them if they are not feeling well to go see the nurse. GRRRRR.....

Due to budget cuts we dont have a public health nurse unfortunatly. I know oen of the lice cases has been called in to CPS by the nurse I work with ,in the past. But the problem has still presisted.

huh I have never tried olive oil, and as far as I know they just live in the one house. I think what is happening they are sometimes treating the kids hair and not treating their bedding and stuffed toys and such.

Hi the two things that i found a little difficulty in A&P were Identifying and telling what functions certain epithelial tissue and another good thing to familar yourself with would be the type of blood cells and their functions. Knowing the basics of these things with help ya with micro bio too.

i was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem. i work at a lower income school and i have a handfull of students that keep getting sent up to my office for having lice. i see these students at least once a month. i have called the parents and told them about the situation, sent info sheets home. even offered them free lice shampoo, and i'll be damned they still have not taken care of the kids and they are always up here itching and scratching their little heads. so when the teachers send them up here i check their scalps and can't find any live ones, but tons of nits. our district has a policy if there are no live ones seen the student is to stay in class( i guess there was too many kids sent home for having lice in the past they say). so i send them back to class and the teachers call me every few hours to tell me they think they see some crawling. i'm getting so frusturated with this why can't parents just take care of their little kiddos.:angryfire:angryfire:angryfire it makes me sad to see these little ones not being taken proper care of and i'm sure they are getting singled out by other students.

Kids must all have ESP cause as soon as your office is kid free and ya start thinking about lunch or ya sit down and get ready to have some lunch you get 10 more that walk through the door.lol Gotta luv em.

I agree with the above post about talking to your instructors about getting some help to clarify the materials. One thing that really helped me through those classes was making a study group with some other students. People learn diffrent ways and teach diffrent ways. Sometimes other students have ideas that you have not thought about and new ways to help you remember the material. Another thing that I do to help remember lists of materials is acronyms, if you can make a funny one out of the material all the better. Try to stay positve. Good luck;)
