  1. After all it is a business. Aren't we all in it for business? $$$$$
  2. I was just wondering what other agencies do after a one year employment. I am per diem because I'm still not comfortable doing wound vacs or starting IV's and they prefer full timers to do it all. I do change Picc dsg, draw blood via picc, monitor IV infusions, venipuncture lab draws, wound care, etc. Not being full time, I don't get mileage or benefits. I work 5 days a week including my weekends and continue on thru the next week, often volunteering for weekends that I'm not responsible for. I'm usually available for any last minute visits thrown in during the day. I get all my visits documented and synched the same night. Usually have 10 pts. Never called out sick. I asked my supervisor for a possible raise or atleast something to compensate for the rising cost of gas! She said she would ask **** That was 3 weeks ago. Haven't heard anything. I really don't know if I can afford this job anymore and maintain my car/tires/oil..... I love this job but am I up against a brick wall? I took and IV course last week, $40 out of pocket, 4 hours of work lost, no compensation. (IV course was not what I expected. STILL don't feel comfortable starting IV) Any suggestions? I just feel that I should be full time with all I put into the company. Hmph!
  3. Hey MedSurg32RN. Yep, applied to hospice, home health agencies, etc. Same story. I can't wait to hear them CRY!! lol
  4. OMG! Thank you for that ispiration. I am still looking. STILL!!! I got a call from one of the hospitals after I emailed them my resume. She said that since the season is coming on and that all of the snow birds are coming back, the hospitals were going to be very busy and they only needed experienced nurses. GIVE ME A BREAK. I was so heart broken. There are jobs out there but I can't get my foot in. This sucks. I have two nurse recruiters working on this and they are saying that they are hearing the same thing. I really hope that when the economy is restored, these big shots have a hard time finding us!!! I hope someday to be able to pick and choose......just like the good ol' days! Hmph!
  5. Oh man! I'm more frustrated than I was before. I live in Florida and now they are saying that the Treasure Coast is going to be busier because of all the snow birds coming back. They need more experienced nurses~~~~ OMG!!! What do you think Orientation is all about then????? This whole thing is smelling like a scam. They want to pay less for nurses. I think that if I even had a chance, they would start me out on a salary like a new graduate!!!! You've got to be kidding me!!! I feel that I would probably be considered as a new grad because of my absence!! So.........they're saving money but I would be working like a dog because I know all of my experiences would be flooding back to me!! I know that I would be doing more than my minimal pay, more than a new grad would be capable of................I'm more frustrated than ever. I can't get a foot in!! Geezzz, all I'm asking is for another chance again. These people who decide who gets in with an absence in the field have never been there. They just don't understand. Forget it then. I could be making good money as a dish washer getting tips from the servers!!!! What a waste.
  6. Hey guys..thanks for replying. Yep, I agree, what about the people who don't have computers??? And as for dialysis.........I have a friend who was in that field for 18 years. Now she is looking for something eles but they don't recognize dialysis as a specialty. ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS????????????? They don't recognize her as a nurse. What am I missing here???? I thought I had it bad but.......... this is getting more insane as time goes bye. I really have a hard time explaining to my non nursing friends that there really is no nursing shortage. They are all out there picking and choosing. I'm so sick of telling them that I have applied for 3 months and still have not found a job. They think I'm doing something wrong or that I'm retarded. Not so folks. The president of my hospital asked me personally to take care of him and his family when they were sick.........inhouse and at their home. My immediate supervisor asked me to take care of her as well as my fellow nurses. I'm not a retard. I think there is something wrong with this country where they hire foreign nurses and we can't even get a job within our own turf. Oh dear, I'm on a roll. Bottom line. I NEED A JOB!!! NOW
  7. Hey Syncand RN, Thanks for your reply. I have brought my resumes to the hospitals..........right to the office!!!!!!! They have all told me to go online. I was out of my mind. I'M HERE...NOW...WITH A RESUME..IN PERSON. OH man. Nope, they wouldn't even take my paper resume. Who would of thought it would come to this????
  8. I'm sorry to hear what you are going thru. I don't know what to say that can help you. I was a cardiac nurse working on a telemetry unit when I was called to say my dad had a heart attack. He lives in another state and when I went to see him, he really only had mild chest pain and was admitted. Of course he went thru all the tests but when I was looking thru all the charts, I could see that he would develop other problems along the way. The entire family would not listen to me. To make it short........in a few months he eventually had heart problems resulting in a pace maker. I have come to the conclusion that just because you are a nurse, your family members don't regard you with the respect that you deserve. I don't believe that they see you as a professional. My advice is to just be supportive and be very brief in what you feel needs to be done. Your going to be right because of your experiences but your family will never understand what you go thru in your everyday life as a nurse. I think that they need to hear it from someone eles. In their mind, it gives them more hope. Don't take it personally.
  9. OMG!! What have I gotten myself into.......again?? Ok, I was a nurse for 15 years and got burned out. Started working on private yachts professionally for the last 10 years. Even got my Captain 100 ton masters. Anyway, I'm back in this profession........or should I say TRYING to get back into it. I finished my RN refresher course 3 months ago and I STILL CAN'T GET A JOB!! What is going on???????? What am I doing wrong? I was told that by taking this course I would be in demand as I now know the latest on drugs, etc. Ok, well, if I don't get a job soon, I will..........again.........forget everything! I have my resume out there from all the nursing sites. I am soooo frustrated! Thanks for letting me vent. I just spent the last 7 hours today on my computer sending resumes. I would think that someone out there would want a seasoned nurse, even out of the hospital setting. I have experience with being offshore and dealing with injuries when help was hours and even days away. What the hell???
  10. Hey all. Thanks for all your info. I guess I just have to do what I have to do. Thanks so much!!!
  11. Hi everyone. Just to keep it real short, I was a CNA, LPN and then an RN for a total of 15 years. I got so burned out and had no idea what eles to do with my life. I just happened to fall into professional sailing and I did that for 13 years. Got my 100 ton Captains license. I was also the chief stewardess, nurse, medical officer in charge, culinary trained chef in N.Y. etc. I am now back on land. I went thru RN Refresher course and I am still looking for a job. I know I don't want to do 12 hour shifts again in a hospital!! EVER!! I did my time in that. I am interested in trauma and anything pertaining to emergency situations as I have encountered alot of that off shore, working with NOTHING and yet still making it work. I have saved many lives hundreds of miles before help could be available. All I see on these web sites for work are nurses with experience and certificates. I have had enough of schooling but am willing to go back and learn what I need to learn in order to do this type of work. I have more experience than anyone could ever imagine. Can anyone eles understand how to keep a broken limb intact with a rolling pin,........ how to keep a stroke victim alive for 3 days when help is nowhere in site.....etc. How do I even APPYLY for a job when I don't have the appropriate credentials????? How do I start over again???? I know so much but I don't want to start at the bottom of the food chain again. Any suggestions would be so helpful. I'm not a kid anymore and I don't want to start over in this life again.
  12. Cool! Get all your courses out of the way first and then you can concentrate on the full time nursing. I wish you luck. I'm glad you made the right decision!! :loveya:
  13. Hey there. Your never too old!!! 34 is still young! I was a nurse for 15 years.....burned out...sailed professionally for 13 years and now....at a young age of 53 I am back into nursing after taking a refresher course. Now stop making excuses and get out there girl!! We need you.
