  1. It happens everywhere, and not just from people on vacation. It cracks me up how incredibly unresponsible people with multiple health conditions have no idea why they take what they take and get angry with us because we don't know what the little yellow pill is for. Even if the pt. is in our system and we have a previous med list, if we discuss the list with them they don't know if there are any changes. We confirm the list, only to later find out from a PCP that they stopped taking Lasix 6 months ago! I also love the question/answer...why are you taking this...b/c my PCP told me too? :angryfireShow some initiative please!!:angryfire
  2. Just a quick thought about the 8/12 discussion...I think we would all eventually conclude it is a personal preference that involves many factors. I don't believe for a minute that I am any less effective as a nurse after 8 hours than I am before 8 hours. Scholastics can make any study say what they want! When I've worked on the Med/Surg floors I do have busier times during the 7-3 portion of my shift than the 3-7 portion of my shift (on most days)-fewer scheduled meds from 3-7, few antibx scheduled during these times. Somedays I don't get to charting until about 2pm...of course some days it's 730pm too! We should all remember though, the debate is not settled by us, or by what is best for the patient, it is what is best for the institution you work in. If your doing 12's, it is because your facility thinks it can save money doing it that way! just my thoughts!

  4. Just wanted to know if anyone followed up by emailing parade, and if there was any response. Just another example of the ignorance of people, and whether intentional or not, I agree that it makes our profession look unprofessional (not the wearing of scrubs in public, but the belief that if we do we are going to spread germs that are worse than what is already out there!) I have on occasion picked up a gallon of milk on the way home from work, but please, some of the people I see at the grocery store are visibly dirty and picking up things and then putting them back on the shelf!. They need to put the alcohol disinfecting dispensers at the grocery store. :angryfire
  5. Thanks lgflamini! That is what I've been hearing. I just completed my NC exams and only have A&P and Soc. to finish all prereq's. I was also trying to decide whether or not to take a traveling nurse position in between time, which sounds like I may have the time! Thanks Again! Tim
  6. I took my last NC exam on 10/15. Does anyone know the usual wait after completing the last exam to when you receive your packet? I'm anxious and yet want to complete it!
  7. Does anyone have an idea of a minimum that an LPN traveler should ask for? I know there are many variables, but I was looking for a ballpark figure. thanks
  8. Swampmutt...I am also taking micro now. I have been working through the content outline, point by point and taking notes directly from Tortora. I have to admit there are many things I don't understand!!! I'm about 1/4 of the way through the content outline. Have you heard of any practice tests, or any other resources to help prepare for the test? Any info. anyone can provide would be appreciated! Thanks!
  9. I wanted to thank all of you for responding to my question...I still have not heard back from EC r.e. my transcripts etc., but I've been working the the NC content so I can begin taking the exams asap. TennNurse-How long after you took CPNE did you know you passed?; How long after you passed CPNE did you grad. and get the paperwork that allows you to sit for boards? Any info. would be helpful! Thanks Again!
  10. I have just sent applied online to EC and had my transcripts sent. I have extensive college credit and believe I will only need the nursing courses and possibly Micro and A&P. I'd like to get through the entire program as rapidly as possible and was curious as to why the CPNE waiting period is 4-6 months after your last EC exam? Can anyone help me understand this process more?
