  2. Thank you this is exactly the kind of "nurse sharing" I want to hear. Working the Internal medicine field I am more adept at teaching patients about diabetes and giving insulin. My grand daughter has no underlying health problems, my son and his fmaily live a few hours away but they are intelligent and we have talked about being aware of respiratory issues. Thank you again.. Bless you for the work you do!!
  3. Hello to all the wonderful pediatric nurses. I am an adult medicine nurse ( Internal medicine) but we have a family illlnes that is causing this "Nana" to worry. The scenario: Sunday my grand daughter stayed the afternoon with her other Grandma. The grandma was symptom free but Monday morning she awakened with fever and cough. The grandma was swabbed and came back positive for influenza. A second person (an adult -Aunt) who was visiting on Sunday also developed flu symptoms on Tuesday and she swabbed positive. Today wed. my 9 month old grand duaghter started running a fever ( 101.3) and non productive cough. She saw her pediatrician who gave her Tamiflu. I am concerned about side effects of Tamiflu and I am worried about the flu. Of course I have researched this but I value a "nurse opinion" and so I am coming here for information as well. In your experience, what is the course of this illness and what do you think of Tamiflu for babies ? Thank you so much for your expertise.
  4. Thank you for the reply, it was very ineresting. I am sorry to hear that so many of your family members have the flu but thankful you have stayed healthy. Do you attribute your resistence to the flu with the drug Tamiflu or are you a person who rarely gets sick? I hope your family recovers soon.. if I lived near you I would being over a huge kettle of chicken soup :-)
  5. In your medical clinic how do you dipose of used urine cups? In the past I emptied the urine in the toilet and placed the used cup in a red bag. I am now working in a new clinic and they dispose of the cup filled with urine in the regular trash ( ugh) I think at the very least the urine should first be disposed of in the toilet. Is it acceptable to put an empty urine cup in the regular trash? My review of the OSHA web site states that as long as there is no visible blood the empty urine cup can be placed in the trash. What are you doing in your clinics?
  6. H1N1 is certainly making the news. Are you seeing very many cases of H1N1 in your area? Will you be giving the vaccine in your hospital or clinics as soon as it is available? As an ambulatory care nurse I am trying to determine my personal medical responsibility with this unkown vacccine. I also wonder, will you personally take the H1N1 vaccine? Thank you so much for the listening ear and response :wink2: Darla09
