Thanks for the info. I figured it'd be something like that. It sucks that they don't give you a straightforward answer given that you have to plan your finances ahead of time. I've also worked while in school so this is the first time I have to do that!

For those of you already in the CARE program, I'm trying to figure out how much the total cost will be so I can budget for next fall... I was directed to the tuition page but they calculate the cost by semester and the CARE program doesn't fit into a normal semester schedule since its continuous. Thanks!

I applied to both and got into Charity and am waiting to hear back from CARE. I'd def take CARE over Charity because: 1. CARE is a shorter program by a few months (its 5 16-wk blocks) 2. CARE gives you a BSN which is the bachelor's and Charity gives you an associate's. If you want to move up later, you'll have to go back and do the bachelor's before the master's. CARE covers a lot more so you get a better education. 3. The Delgado system is a mess. I have so many horror stories that I don't even know where to start so I'll just give you one. They lost my application for the Spring '10 semester and found it a few months later when it was too late. Now I have to wait until next fall to start. I know at least one other person this happened to as well. 4. If you move out of state, everyone knows what LSU is but almost no one will have heard of Delgado Community College. To be fair, here are some downers: 1. It's WAY harder. You're taking 123 credits in less than two years. I took 120 credits in three years to finish my undergrad. It's notorious for drop outs and failures. If you get below a C in a class, you're kicked out of the program because there's no time to make it up. 2. It's a lot more expensive. But then again, you'll be done sooner so you'll hopefully be making money sooner.

I went and saw the CARE advisor earlier this summer and she said that we didn't need to take the TEAS or any other test since they supposedly measure your ability to perform college-level work and CARE students already have at least an undergrad degree. The funny thing is, I applied to Charity for this spring (I hadn't completed all the pre-reqs to get into CARE this fall) and I never heard back from them. No yes, no no. I called and they said they hadn't received anything but I had the signed certified receipt saying someone had accepted my app. I didn't realize they'd lost my app until after the deadline had passed and by then there was nothing left to do. I'm going to reapply to Charity as a background but I REALLY want to do the CARE program. By the way, the advisor explained that the reason they will only give you credit for anatomy if you take A&P anywhere else is because they're the only nursing school in the area or state that studies on actual cadavers. I dropped my A&P class as soon as I realized that I'd pretty much have to take it over any way.

Hey y'all, I'm applying to the CARE Program at LSUHSC-No for Fall 2010 so I thought I'd start a thread for anyone else who's applying for that year. I figure we can help each other out with admissions, interviews, etc. Look forward to meeting all of you!

I'm applying to LSUHSC's CARE program for admittance in fall 2010. I checked out OLOL's program and while the 10 months is a big plus, you're only getting an ASN, not a BSN so that was strike one for me. The second strike was how difficult it was to get someone to talk to me. They were not helpful at all as though simply mailing me an application packet (printed straight off their website for the most part) was enough. They told me to look at the website which had broken links, etc. The third strike came after meeting with their advisor who continued the unfriendly, "why are you bothering me?!" attitude. After looking at my transcripts, she said I was missing a number of pre-reqs. When I tried to point out that I had often taken advanced, graduate-level classes, she said it didn't matter, I'd have to go back and take the intro courses. Where's the logic in that? I don't know. When I went to the friendly, helpful advisor at LSUHSC, she signed off on all of my classes. As she put it, "I hated that course so I'd hate to make you re-take it."
