UTMB BACC2 Spring 2011
From what I can remember it was an easy interview... nothing crazy. They asked why you wanted to be a nurse, talked about the program structure and asked if you had anything that would hinder you from successfully completing it, what your plans were i.e. grad school in the future. You should not sweat it. Just dress professionally and maybe read up a little bit on the program and the school and you should be all set.

I actually only waited a day to find out because I had to know if I made it for another offer I had. UTMB was very behind last year and we didn't have interviews till November so it might be different. The schedule is usually one day on campus (we are tuesdays). This day is usually when we take our test and have seminar. Occasionally we will have a lab or something on a different day but it isn't often. The classes are all web based and if you are not good with the computer it might be hard. You will be teaching yourself the materials in many cases by watching presentations online and readings. I moved to Galveston and I honestly wish I didn't. I am doing all my clinicals at UTMB, but if I was closer to town I could have done some at the medical center. You have 20 hours of credits a semester. It is spread around so that you do not have all the classes going on at the same time. For example, you might be in 3 classes at the beginning of the semester and one starts in the middle, then the first three end and another one will start. The program is intense! If you are not dedicated you will not do well in this program...but it is a good intense. I was a community health major but there is every kind of degree in my class. There is economics, interior design, history, everything! There is a good support team at the school. They want you to make it and offer tools to do well in the program.

My interview was actually over the phone. I will say that they are big believers in dressing the part. I know people who wore business casual and some who wore suits. Nothing says serious about what you are applying for like a suit, but if you don't have one business casual should be ok.

UTMB BACC2 Spring 2011
Hey Everyone! I am actually a BACC2 student scheduled to graduate in December. I was a member of a thread like this and remember wishing there was someone on here that had gone through the program. Let me know if you have any questions and hopefully I can help!

Has anyone from the BACC 2 program received anything about a test on the first day? Is that just the other group? I did not get anything on the subject.

If you look at this website... http://www.son.utmb.edu/studentaffairs/programs/baccalaureate/Accelerated_Bacc2_Program_Curricullum.html It shows what the BACC2 program curriculum should be. As for the times I do not know. I know that either Mrs. A should be registering everyone so we at least dont have to worry about getting into a class so that is always good.

UTMB Spring 2010
Hey everyone in the BACC 2 program. I wrote the director of the program today about a few unclear things thought you might want to know. I wrote the following... "I was wondering if you might be able to answer a question regarding the curriculum. According to online the classes we take in the Spring are Seminar:Professional Nursing Practice I, Health Assessment, Nursing Research, Pharmacology, Introduction to Professional Nursing Practice, Integrated Concepts of Pathopysiology and Pharmacology in Nursing, and Adult Nursing. Will we be registering for these classes at orientation? Will we automatically just be placed in these classes? I was wanting to go ahead and start buying my books so I had them and have the list according to the bookstore. I am just trying to make sure I do not buy a book when I might not be in that class." She wrote back... "This is a good question, I will send you the booklist, BACC2 Spring calendar/Classes, and the curriculum, when I get all the students that been accepted in the program. I may send it to all of you by the 2nd week of December. Ms ****** will register all the students in the BACC2 program. Please let me know if you have any question-Have great day-SA" So it looks like we dont have to worry about getting in classes, and they will do it for us.

RocketsSON I had a question about books. Would you recommend buying the books. I have found many on a website that allows you to rent the books. Do you find yourself referencing them a lot after your classes?

Thats funny emag. I am a Red Raider and feel like I need to cover up my longhorn gear with a Double T :) Yes I talked to someone today and they made it sound like everyone that got into the BACC 2 program gets the scholarship. I guess this is because we can not work. She said they have a big fundraiser for this ( I am sure they will want to "contribute" to that as alumni)

I talked to someone in the financial aid office today. She said if you received a scholarship they pretty much just assume you are taking it. Also if they have you no longer pending you can go to this website for financial aid to accept. https://financialaid.utmb.edu/regent_portal/ You can only sign in after they have you as accepting the offer. I could not figure out how to accept online either so I sent in my things as well.

megodsy I also am starting the accelerated program. Me and my husband actually found a great little duplex to live in 3 blocks from the nursing school. If you find a roommate you can look at http://www.har.com and look at zip code 77550 and look at the places for lease. One place that was very close to campus was this little duplex. http://search.har.com/engine/1408-Strand-St-Galveston-TX-77550_HAR1300854.htm I know they had a one bedroom all bills paid for 650 and you can walk to school from there. Otherwise there are a TON of super cute houses. If we werent going to ge living off of one income I would jump all over them!

Hey Everyone! I wanted to let yall know of a super easy way of getting your CPR certification out of the way. The American Heart Association has an online course you can do for 17.50 After you do the online portion you go and do the test for a instructor for 40 dollars. I did this through a couple who teaches classes. The website for the couple is spacecoastcpr.com You can take the whole class with them for 60 bucks as well. They are very laid back and it is very easy. It took about an hour to do the online portion and 20 minutes with them to do the tests. Hope this helps!

Hey guys! I made it into the BACC 2 program! Yay! I also was able to find a place to live that is literally 2 blocks from the nursing school. For those of you looking for a place to live I have some places you can look at. http://www.har.com (put in Galveston's zips like 77550, 77551, 77554 etc) Then click on the lease results. There is www. apartments.com Just follow your way to Galveston Also, we were able to find our place on http://www.thehousecompany.com Our place is a little old school with the appliances, but we got a huge 2 bedroom for 600 a month. Can't beat that!
