UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
By the way all, The person said they will "hopefully" be sent out no later than next Wednesday, which still leaves the possibility that it could be a little longer, so don't be surprised if it does end up being a lil longer.

Hey, ya twodollarbills, I believe that was a misunderstanding. I actually went to the office today and spoke with a knowledgeable person, and they said letters will be mailed out by Wednesday of next week.

UF Accelerated BSN - May 2010 Applicants
Hey Shaunna, Im waiting to hear back from UF (crossing fingers I get in), and I saw on this post that you are in the program right now. Do you think it is possible to hold a part-time job, even though they discourage having one? Also, what was your class schedue like? Do you have clinicals first semester? What hours are you in class from? Do you have any free time between 8-5 pm during the week? Also, regarding clinicals, where are the different rotations held, and what hours are you usually at the hospital for for clinicals? Also, does the nursing school give preference to those who lack transportation, or is it easy for people to get car pools to the clinical sites? I dont have a car and Im kinda worried about that. Sorry for all the questions. Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!

Gender in the Workplace
As a future nursing student, I am a bit concerned with the possibilities of sexist remarks, sexual harrassment in health care facilities towards nurses, or any health care professionals. I understand this is bound to happen, but at what frequency are serious altercations likely to occur? thanks for the info.

Clinical Simulation Nursing Labs: What Are They Like?
Hi all, I was wondering what it is like learning in Clinical Simulation Nursing Labs. Do most nursing schools have them? also, how many students are usually assigned to dummies for practicing (if applicable). do a lot of schools let you go in after class hours (ie: evening) to practice simulating medical situations, or are schools pretty strict about that? thanks!!

Nurse Anesthetists: Will they phase out?
Hi All, I am a pre-nursing student and not too long ago I was speaking with a cardiologist about the role of nurse anesthetists in the health care system. I realize that they currently make a very good income because of the skill needed to monitor the patients. the doctor was telling me that he thinks that that sector will phase out in the long run? do any of you believe this to be true/ false? thanks for the info.

Nursing Research Experience??
Dear All, I am planning on getting my second degree in nursing, and intend on pursuing research/teaching. how would an accelerated student go about getting experience when applying for msn/PhD programs? are there electives available in nursing school (like can you run a case study) while doing your preceptorship/practicum? or is doing a post-bac at the NIH, for example, more realistic? thanks for the input :) Sincerely, Katie Stone

Accelerated BSN Alternatives
Dear All, I am in the process of applying to a handful of second-degree accelerated bsn programs. currently i am finishing up the prereqs (which include classes like develop. psych, soc, microbio, anat, etc.) In an effort to play it safe, I was wondering what other alternatives exist for those who want to get a BSN that are graduating/have graduated with a non-nursing degree?? will most schools that have an accelerated program allow you to apply to their regular nursing program (in other words, just enter a 2-yr BSN program). if so, do you think it looks good/bad to the admissions board if you apply for both? thanks very much for the advice--i need all that i can get.

Swine Flu Scare for Nurses
Dear All, While the advent of flu season draws nearer, I am becoming increasingly concerned with the possibility of getting swine flu (or even worse, a more lethal mutated form of it )from contact with patients when I begin nursing school clinicals. My mother just got the swine flu as it is, and hasn't been around patients for two weeks prior to its onset. What do all think, I am need of some reassurance. Thank you muchly.
