  1. Yes! I asked if I could go in the next day to meet with this supervisor and she said "No I need to investigate"
  2. my mistake it is.
  3. So I started working at a brand new private hospital since end of February and was given 3 days orientation (I only had 4 months work experience at the time) and everything has been going great except... I gave report to an oncoming Day RN about one of our patients, she is a 60something female After I gave report to her, I documented on the computer that report was given. I go home and sleep for a few hours and I get phone call from our new med-surg supervisor (she just started at this facility 2.5 weeks ago, i've been here longer than she has) "Hi... How are you?..." I tell her I'm good, and then she screams "You gave HORRIBLE PATIENT care. You let this lady suffer in horrible pain all night." I told her I did not, and I documented giving medication and the PCA pump in my notes on electronic charting. Documentation is also in the paper MAR and withdrawing from Pyxis. So I'm covered in 3 different places documentation-wise. This supervisor screams at me "NO YOU DIDNT DOCUMENT. YOU LET THAT PATIENT SUFFER" I tried to calmly explain that I did, and she can check the paper MAR (also has her pain score). I was trying to also explain that I didn't get the chance to replace the morphine for the PCA because there is no night pharmacist and its not stocked in the pyxises. She ignores what I tell her and then screams at me how the call light was out of reach (It wasn't since the tech and I did rounds together on that patient) and how the CPM was off ALL NIGHT (I documented that I put it on). She also screamed at me about how the IV tubing was hanging off the bed (it wasn't on a rail, it wasn't touching the ground, and of course its going to dangle a little to give it some slack. So this supervisor said I am suspended for two shifts until her "investigation is complete" I am not quite sure how to handle this situation when I meet with her Wednesday. I just feel that it is wrong that I am being suspended and accused of giving "HORRIBLE" patient care. What is going to happen to me? Even if she discovers that I DID document and medicate the patient appropriately, I know she won't apologize to me. I am just really stressed out and it was hard enough finding a job.
  4. golpn2010> I don't know if you've heard of group one... in the DFW area if you are terminated for ANY REASON you are pretty much blacklisted from most of the hospitals in the area. A nurse I used to work with got Group One'd and she cannot work in 16 states because of it. it is not easy to fight against either. Its true I don't have benefits right now, but I was living with my parents anyway and my health is excellent. And I will get my friend to call up HR for me. In addition, my manager said she'd put in a very good word for me whereever I apply, so do you think it would make a difference if I asked for copies of my evaluations? Or employers are probably not interested. My resignation paper states that the reason I left was "dissatisfied w/ coworkers/morale" is it acceptable/neccessary to put that on my application? I already talked to one recruiter from another major hospital in the area and they sounded very interested... but I had to insist that I resigned. Some GN positions will be posted and the recruiter said go for those.
  5. Long story short, I was let go by my hospital after 4 months of work. I am a new grad, my job performance wasn't an issue in fact it was excellent. I was disliked by two coworkers of the same race, who have poor job performance and have been reported on by several other staff members. I got along well with all of my coworkers except these two. So they begin to claim that I said offensive remarks and that they did not feel comfortable with me. Some of the comments included telling a patient that I couldn't put her on a bedpan by myself because she is big and I am tiny (less than 100lbs). I recommended a nursing student NOT take a particular patient because he likes to argue, so those coworkers teamed up and said I told the student that "I like to take her/him because I like to argue with her/him" and they also claimed I said something racially offensive. So it was two against one... I also argued that they use racially offensive language, especially on their phones in the nurse's station for all to see/hear. Yet they said the because they were on their cellphones it really didn't matter. Just because I defined a slang word for a nurse, they jumped on it and said I was being racist. An hr later, the charge nurse (same racial group) told me that wasn't professional, right infront of a patient while we were turning him. I told her that we can discuss this outside the room, and I apologized to her in the room and outside (patient was nonverbal) Note: I only said it ONCE. Instead of following chain of command, they reported it to the supervisor. I let my manager know the situation and the next day I get called into see ADON and my manager... My manager tried to plead for a final warning, but I was given two options: involuntary termination OR voluntary resignation... I again explained the situation but was denied... second opinions from other coworkers were not considered. The ADON said I had to leave because of "HR recommendations" My ex-hospital uses Group One, so they said if I took the resignation I would not be reported to Group One. The ADON said she experienced a similar situation in her day, but said she just got a warning. I am really concerned about what to do since I have only 4 months experience, my GPA and resume are strong, I work well with others... My voluntary resignation paper says my reason for leaving "dissatisfied w/ coworkers/morale" I am not quite sure how do I address this in interviews and applications. My manager said she wanted to keep me, but her boss said no... she said I can come back maybe in a year or two. I am more depressed about losing benefits than not having a source of income at this point. I already had a phone interview with a recruiter and they kept asking "Were you fired or you voluntarily left" in addition I was also asked "You couldn't transfer to another floor?" There was a lot of unfair things going on in the unit in general, but I don't ever want to "bad mouth" my former place of employement. Yet, I feel saying "This hospital wasn't a fit for me" sounds equally as bad. My manager said she'd put in a good word for me anywhere I'd apply and that I'm smart so I'll have a job soon. I really don't quite agree with her at this point.
  6. Yes!!! I already did most of this when I was looking, but staying positive and praying got me through the worst of it! I just needed to wait and find the right people to interview with :) Now I have job!
  7. I got a job!!! Thank you everyone!!!
  8. I got out in May and am still waiting for a job... in nearly all my interviews since graduation I have met some resentment about "So, you graduated in May... WHY haven't you gotten a job?" so I can definitely understand where you are coming from. I'd saying try to get a nonnursing position if you have other things to take care of family/paying bills/etc. One of my friends suggested that I work as a Nurse tech/CNA while looking for a job; however, all of the employers that I have discussed with so far say that it's not "possible" since I graduated and have a license. To give you some hope, I had an interview yesterday and it was the FIRST interview that I was not asked why I didn't have a job w/o out that negative connotation. Hopefully you will find a nurse manager who IS understand of the situation when you do interview (like I did). This manager said in the interview that it wasn't fair to ask questions about experience (outside of clinicals) since I am seeking a job to GET experience (Which a lot of us are). Have you tried looking out of state? Home health agencies? Good luck!
  9. I_See_You_RN> I've always dressed professionally (have a black and a grey suit), very conservative/minimal makeup, and I bring my resumes and necessary documents in a black porfolio. I've also written thank you emails and thank you notes. I graduated May 09. Thanks for your advice.
  10. thanks for giving me some hope... a few days ago I really felt like I was just going to give up on being a nurse. Really it felt like a waste I think i've been on 20~30 interviews and sent in probably over a hundred applications... I have been looking outside of what I planned to do, like rehab, LTC, and nursing homes. I've also called the recruiters to ask about clinics I could work in. k.morris> Yeah I had 5 interviews this month and I felt that I was sure to get something, but in the end I was rejected. My self-esteem has hit rock-bottom
  11. Hi (new here) >_ I graduated this May but haven't been able to land a job anywhere in my area. I've been on several interviews and I have practiced interviewing so I can handle most of the questions they ask... but my biggest fear is when they ask "So you graduated in May WHY haven't you been working?" or they ask "What have you been doing since you got out of school but haven't gotten a job?" I tell them I reviewed my materials and studied for NCLEX and have been earning CE's... I am not quite sure what other certifications I can earn since I already have ACLS since winter. I feel like there is a lot of resentment towards people who graduate but haven't gotten any offers. I'm getting really scared since most of the positions are not available for me (I can only apply for GN positions according to all the recruiters I talked to) and December more stuff will come up butttt I know I'll have to compete with the December grads... and I feel like employers would rather pick them over me... even though I speak several languages, graduated with Honors from my honors program, scholarships, volunteer work, and previous experience as an extern. I've also looked out of state, but I would really love to stay in Texas.
