what is the role of the CRNA in the ER and CODES?
here in england the anesthetist (Anesthesiologists, as we dont have CRNAs) is tasked in the ER, CODES elsewhere in the hospital and all intuabations with: intubating the patient anesthetise the patient lead the resuscitation effort as the clinical lead and expert in that situation stabilise the patient because here in england, no one but the anesthetists intubate patients in 99% of cases, not the nurses or ER Docs and other such roles, it is the soley provided by the anaesthetist. i am just wondering is it the same situation with CRNA's and AMD's in the USA are they the staff who deal with all CODES, Intubations, anesthestics and trauma patient stabilisation?

respitory therapists or CRNA's in ICU and Codes/ER
within the scope of a CRNA they Intubate, Manage Airways, initiate resuscitation, manage and implement ventilation and respitory management etc but do hospitals having respitory therapist prevent CRNA's from performing these tasks? do hospitals prefer CRNA's or RT's to perform such tasks?

Questions about the duties/role of CRNA's
see we have a different situation in the UK, anesthetists (only MD's in the UK) attend the ER for all patients in Resus as they are the only doctors to intubate, they attend all in hospital cardiac arrests and anesthetists the the only doctors in ICU

MD AWARE
I know exactly what you mean. the other week on an ortho surgical ward my friend discharged a patient with a prescription of amoxycillin, containing penicillin. the patient was allergic to penycillin. how ever the doctor had prescribed the amoxycillin on the patients drug chart where it clearly states the allergy, the pharmacist then confirmed the order. my friend had only just come off of holiday and didnt know much about the patient. in fairness she should have realised this error. the patient then went home and had a severe allergic reaction to the drug, not life threatening although it could have been. now the nurse is the one being disciplined due to the incident however the doctor has not had a single action against him for prescribing it.
