  1. what city and/or facility do you work in...if you don't mind my asking?
  2. Sometimes when they offer you PRN it ends up being more like a full time position. But like you said if you're looking for stability then that may not work for you. Did you look up that position on the CHJ website?
  3. Hey dee78 can u elaborate a little about having to push back your RN entrance due to not finding a CNA program. Like, is it a requirement that you have your NA certification before you can enter that RN program?
  4. oh. also I do know that TN is more strict than GA so maybe you can there.
  5. If you're already a CNA TN does not accept certification from GA I know for sure. But GA accepts TN certification. My instructor in the class that I finished for my CNA went over that with us.
  6. Thank you!! I love your quote!
  7. dee78...NHC does hire from outside but they don't usually have to. Also like I was saying before when people get hired there they stay for years so NHC doesn't have many openings. EXAMPLE--my class in Oct., 2 out of 14 got offered a position. Try Standifer Place and the Life Care facilities. There is an opening on the Chattanooga has jobs website, it's for weekends (private sitting position I think) and some PRN as well. Let me know if you find it. I"ve seen the postings for Memorial too have they called you?
  8. Hey acubed...I can read the pm but can't reply. Exactly how did you get to do the pm's? Was it just replying to 15 msgs?
  9. BTW--can you do PM's yet? 15 seems sooo far away!
  10. Oh I'm sorry to hear that. But if this is what you want to do KEEP AT IT!!! I say this because it took 3 times before I got into the class. 1st time was because I was told about it 2 days after that Monday. 2nd time because the lady at the front desk neglected to tell me that the application time was only from 9am-11am. By there being only 14 spots by the 3rd time I was getting discouraged...but when I finally got ALL the correct dates and info I applied and was accepted. By the way what's WIA? Let me know about the class with phlebotomy! There's also going to be an additional 75 class hours that you can take (once you're certified) that will allow you to pass meds as a CNA! That program is not in place yet but is coming. A bill was passed to allow it.
  11. Hey acubed did you go apply for CNA training @ NHC yesterday?
  12. Hello jt2007! Actually it was passed in July that CNA will be allowed to pass meds. You will be required to take an additional 75 hours of class. CNAs will not be allowed to pass narcotics and insulin I think is the other. I got this info from my CNA instructor (Oct 2009) who has been an RN for 30+ yrs and sits on the board. She said that they do not yet have any programs in place. So I'm not sure if this will help much in your case because of the timing. I do intend on staying in touch with her because I would like to tkae the additional hrs to pass meds. Also, I've found what CynicallyVexed says to be true...that LTC's pay the most money but hospitals will usually allow more learning experience.
  13. Yeah everything is pretty much the same as what j450n stated. The only difference is that in the pamphlet for the state of TN there are 27 skills. You will be tested on handwashing and an additional 4 skills. So I guess maybe you can ask your instructor or find out how to get your hands on that pamphlet for your state. If you have that you should be totally fine for clinicals. My instructor also stated what j450n said...that the written is mostly common sense.
  14. Yeah thanks clearing that up about the pm! Unifrom is royal blue. No requirment on the shoe color (lol) I could see why u would think that, but no. They do not provide CPR & 1ST AID you have to get that else where (AHA, Red Cross). They do the TB test free of charge. Most LTC's will pay for your Hep-B and the $89 for you to take state exam once you're employeed with them. Throughout my class and everyone that I've spoken with (facilities, nurses, other CNA's) noone has mentioned the need to take a physical so I would hold off on that if I were you. Are you going on 10/31 to apply for the November class? If so let me know. NHC is great! So great in fact that it's hard to get a position there because no one ever leaves! Seriously! Sorry it took awhile for the reply.. I probably won't make it to 15 posts anytime soon!
  15. If you're taking the test in the state of TN I can help answer your question.
