Taking NCLEX tomorrow
From all I've read on here, thats the good one! Congrats! I tested yesterday and freaked out after the computer shutting off at 75...but I'm getting that pop up too!!

PrepU for NCLEX
I started using prepU about two months ago along with HURST to get ready for the NCLEX. I tested yesterday, the computer shut off at 75 and I'm getting the good pop-up, so I'm staying positive! Though for a good few hours I stressed out that I failed miserably... I found the NCLEX questions very comparable to prep U and the hurst q review. The way the level 5+ questions were worded was similar to the exam. Good Luck! I didnt feel prepared on test day but I got a good 7 hours of sleep, ate peanut butter on an eggo with banana for breakfast and tried to stay calm. It worked- it was over in about an hour and 15 minutes.

Nursing student got CNA job!
I've just finished all of my orientation and start my first day on the floor tomorrow! I'm REALLY getting my feet wet with three 12's this weekend...hopefully I don't die... So I'd definitely like to keep in touch emcadams to trade some tips! I also didn't know we could d/c foleys and IV's. I'd like to do as much as possible to get experience for nursing school- one year left!

Nursing student got CNA job!
Thanks Mrslady! That is good information. I'm nervous about starting on days but I look forward to the training- it will definitely put me more at ease. Evenings sound really nice... I also will be at the same hospital next semester during my L&D clinical. Thanks again for the reply

How to land a CNA position at a hospital?
I was just recently offered a CNA position at my dream hospital. I'm in Texas but I think my strategies will work for you: 1. Stalk the the hospital/hospital system on social media (facebook, twitter, their websites, google)- I found out about career fairs and job opportunities that they didn't advertise anywhere else. 2. Show up to the interview dressed professionally. There were at least 4 people dressed in scrubs for the interview- show you made an effort to look your best. Leave the short skirts and stripper heels at home though. 3. Have answers ready for the common questions like "Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond for a client", "How do you develop trust with a client?" "Why do you want to work for us?" "What makes a great CNA?" 4. Be honest. I'm a nursing student and have no healthcare experience except for the last year of clinical, which I said. Fortunately, I had (have!) a nurse manager that wants little experience so that they can teach you their way.

Nursing student got CNA job!
So I applied for and got a CNA position at my dream hospital! The nurse manager who interviewed me said it was a lot of work and that he expected a lot from his med-surge floor so I should be prepared for an intense work situation. I am wondering if I can handle 10-12 patients during day shift. I'm float/pool and mainly weekends. I want to get as much hospital experience as possible before I graduate next year. Any tips from you awesome Med-surge CNAs?

San Antonio College Spring 2012
Since you have so many classes to take, I would advise a BSN program. As students we're getting a lot of pressure from hospitals to get a Bachelors because they're trying to achieve magnet status. Several have even enacted hiring freezes for associates degree nurses. Acceptance into SAC might get much easier due to this but you will have to continue to a bridge program after graduating. There's UTHSCSA, UIW and Wayland offering the BSN in San Antonio and theres many online bridge programs. Good luck to you! It's a difficult journey but as long as you put in the effort, you will succeed.

SAC nursing program fall 2011
I hope some of you experienced SAC nursing students can help me out... I got accepted for the spring at SAC and it says I can only register for Flex II. Does this mean I will only get half financial aid because I'll only be taking 5 hours in the second part of the semester? Should I register for Flex I courses outside of nursing school? Confused!!! What has you experience been as a Flex 2 student? Also, are there nursing summer classes that are part of the program? Like MedSurg and Mental Health?

Metro Health is SUPER cheap for TB tests - $15 but you need to make an appointment http://www.sanantonio.gov/health/Immunizations.html If you go to the STD clinic they give you shots for HepB, Flu, Tdap and MMR for FREE. They also may be able to find your shot record in their medical system. http://www.sanantonio.gov/health/STDHIV-Mainpage.html

San Antonio College Spring 2012
I've set up fingerprinting for next Friday. Now I just need the TB test and CPR class. I know what you mean about not sleeping! I'm so excited that I've been researching like crazy! Have either of you heard about MasterTrain for CPR cert in SA? They have a class almost everyday of the week! It's $50 but super convenient. I'm also psyched that they changed the uniforms! No more all white- now its royal blue tops and black pants

There will definitely be people who didn't finish their shots or think another program is better for them and then you just take their place!

Has anyone taken the PAX-RN?
I am wondering about the PAX-RN as well for entrance into Galen. I wish there were a free study guide online, like there is for the NET. Any advice would be great! :)
