PGH feedback
shinanigan:as to my job application experience, it took me 3 years to finally fill up the position as Nurse I at PGH. After passing the written exam it was after a year that I had my panel interview, a year passed then I had my final interview then recently my medical exam...then I got hired. I wasn't really expecting they would still contact me because of the large "pool" of applicants they had who also shared the same experience. During that waiting period I made sure no time is wasted. I took trainings, volunteer works, applied to almost every hospital (even applied as a military nurse), took & passed NCLEX, even had a non-nursing related job. I am very eager to gain & develop knowledge & skills related or not to my chosen profession. Then, I found myself working as a ER staff in a private hospital--it was overwhelmingly challenging but I was happy that finally I had my formal hospital job. I felt I have adjusted already then a MAJOR dilemma came in--finally my NC (military nurse) & PGH appication knocks! And I was like...whoa!!! It was very though, I had to think it over for some time, prayed really hard & seek advice from my "mentors"....PFT (for NC) or leaving my safe zone & starting back to zero in a public hospital. To cut the long story short...I am now a PGH staff nurse. Is it worth it? Yes! How would you survive a almost 1:20 nurse-patient ratio if you come there unpreprared. Nonetheless, there are lots of benefit, perks that comes with it--which will be revealed once you're part of it. Hope my experience sheds some light. Good luck & Glod Bless to everyone!:)

they do offer training for special areas like OR, MICU etc--that's 10k for 3 months but what i'm referring to is their hiring process. you may proceed to the personnel department & ask about the requirements.

is there any other hospital you know who absorbs nurse trainee or currently hiring nurses? pleaaaaaaaseeee? thanks guys. try Mary Johnston Hospital for those who live nearby Tondo, Manila--it's near Tondo Church. I just finished my one month as an Orientee (without pay). After that you'll be lined up as an On-call (Reliever Nurse), me & my co-orientees started to be called already. As for what I know, they are continuously accepting applications & they're calling new set of examinees. Hope this hepls.

No Work Experience
NewlygradBSN:never lose hope. we have the same situation except that i had my volunteer training first before i took & passed my nclex exam. we are all aware that the 'backer' system in our country is essential to secure a nurse position--or even a volunteer nurse position but don't despair because there are still lots of other hospitals. you might want to try afp medical center & gat andres bonifacio memorial medical center, this is where i got my nursing trainings--and good thing this hospitals don't have training fees. be patient--i renewed my license 3 months ago...it's been three years since i passed the local board yet i'm still WAITING for my pending applications at PGH & the AFP. i strongly suggest you focus on getting a job-related experience. i know you can beat the odds...focus on mastering your nursing knowledge & skills...good luck!

AFP medical center RN residency
congratz to all who passed the qualifying written exam, to those who didn't make it-there's still lots of other opportunities out there & never lose hope! as for the succeeding exams, it would be a competency exam ( nursing skills) and a final interview conducted by the military head nurses...passing the written exam is the most critical part i should say...review the basics especially your nursing skills, also it would be nice to check the older posts...i strongly suggest to give your best shot in these exams coz this will determine what area you'll be assigned for the 6 months training...

applying as military nurse is another option to consider, but it's more difficult applying this time...i myself have a pending application, 'm waiting for the interview. 'nyweiz if you're interested you may proceed to camp aguinaldo-bulwagang valdez...bring your credentials and be in the proper attire...prepare for the exam, they have a shorter exam for those with 80 and above board rating...

V Luna General Hospital (VLGH) is under the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center (AFPMC)...VLGH is located @ V Luna Road, Quezon City. If you'll be taking the LRT2 route, it's nearest to Anonas Station while on MRT it's near GMA-Kamuning then another jeepney ride to each way...don't complain yet...if you really want it...its worth the sacrifice! As for me, I live in Tondo and it's almost 1 1/2 hr travelling time and I have lots of co-RN Residents near Tondo as well... Yes it requires wearing COMPLETE duty uniform. For girls you could use your school uniform, you can't wear pants except during weekends or holidays but still it depends on your head nurse and you'll be wearing your nursing cap except if you'll be assigned in special areas where you could use your scrub suits. This is a military-training hospital..just imagine following your school's regulations regarding you're ideal appearance, punctuality and attitude in a strict manner. I mean it..proper hair cut for boys, clean "white" shoes, name plates, ID's...it may sound difficult but after some time you'll get used to it. I even find myself re-painting my shoes with white Kiwi before going to duty as a volunteer nurse in a public hospital...too bad there's nobody to appreciate it..hehe! Go try it karmela! there's nothing to lose and so much to gain with the program..

The first step is to call the NETB of VLGH @ 4262701 loc 6942..politely ask for the schedule of the next examination for the RN-Residency Program...since the 2nd batch is graduating this August, more likely the 3rd batch is starting their didactic phase already...there are two batches in a year March-August and August-March...after confirming that there would an exam, I strongly suggest that you visit the office to pre-register...you need to be patient...I belong to the pioneer batch, I took the exam last March '08 and started August of the same year... After passing the written examination, you'll be given the list of requirements. Then there would a competency exam--skills examination, next is the interview with the military head nurses. This is a critical phase coz this would determine your designated clinical area. After would be a 2 weeks didactic phase, a day of return demo of the various nursing skills, IV training (if you still don't have it..)and at last 6 months of clinical experience. Well, the key is to do good at the written examination. It's true that almost majority of the applicants have their backers but the experience is worth trying!
