  1. Will do Jan. Can I email you thru here?
  2. Well that basically tells me that there's no point in even starting the process. I'll check back in a few months and see if anything has changed. Thanks Jan.
  3. That solves that problem! Thank you!
  4. Jan has anything changed recently with this?
  5. I asked some questions a few months back and got some great answers. I am Irish and I trained in the UK and have been living in the US since 1995. I have dual Irish/US citizenship. I currently work Picu and have for the last 11 years. I am still interested in working in Canada particularly Alberta or BC. A few months ago I read here that there was a hiring freeze on all international nurses in Alberta. Is that true still? Is there now a freeze in other provinces too? I don't want to start the lengthy and expensive process of getting a Canadian license if there are no jobs at the end of it. I read here today that you have to have a bachelors degree for Canada. Is that true? If so that's my answer because I don't have one and am not prepared to get one. Is Jan still around here? I always found her advice spot on. Thanks for any help!
  6. The question is are you a culchie or a jackeen??? I'm from Dublin myself! I trained in the UK and am now living in the U.S and looking to move to Canada! Sorry I couldn't resist asking!
  7. That's good to know. I have lots of questions for you!
  8. Thanks for all the info. When they split your unit where do you think most of your staff will go? I was at UCSF when they split the units into a general picu and a peds cvicu and the staff voted 50-50 for each unit which was neat. These days I tend to prefer trauma myself over cardiac though it changes frequently. I'm having quite a dilemma trying to decide which location. If I picked Alberta and sat the CRNE there and passed, how difficult is it to transfer it to another province if I wanted to? Also how long does that usually take? Thanks for all your help.
  9. Jan! Thank you so much for chiming in. How will I know when I can pm someone? Is there any point in even applying to Alberta at this point If all jobs are on hold? I looked at the BC nursing site yesterday and this is going to be quite a complicated process with four countries involved. Do you know anything about the Picu in Vancouver? I'm going to go thru both sites this weekend and try and make a decision on location. I don't mind rain or cold but snow is not something I am used to. I've never driven in it and the thought of getting out of bed at 5am to dig my car out of a hole is not appealing! Any advice you could give would be appreciated. Thank you!
  10. Stupid question but how do I do that?
  11. Can anyone bump this to Jan ??? I am really interested in PICU's in Alberta and also BC. Thank you!
  12. Great information. Thank you!
  13. Which Canadian provinces will only take degree educated international nurses? I did a three year training program (RGN) in the Uk and have not got a degree. I have been in the U.S since 1995. It would be easier to know now before I start applying which ones would accept me. Thanks!
