Cardiovascular certification
I'm curious about this myself. I want to take the exam in the next few months and while I don't want to spend a ton, I wouldn't mind finding out what study materials have worked for others.

Advice on going from one patient to two
Thanks for the feedback! I can kind of get a sense of how my morning will go -- on Monday we have no idea what we will have and on Wednesday when we return, sometimes it's the same patients but sometimes not if they have been discharged.

Advice on going from one patient to two
Next week, we start going from one patient to two. I'm in my 3rd semester of a small ADN program with no medical background (e.g. I have never worked as a tech or such). And so far, I really haven't had a chance to do many skills either -- just lack of opportunity with the patients I have had. Soooo...I'm feeling a little nervous going from 1 to 2 patients next week and am looking for any advice. Here's things I'm doing to prepare: editing my clinical notes/forms (how I compile and keep up on information), going over some basic skills like injections and catheter insertion (mostly watching videos and finding little cheat sheets I can carry in my pocket to look up right before doing a skill). I won't have to do a med pass for a while, so unless my teacher happens to be around when there is a med, she will mostly be with others for 9 am med pass. Any other thoughts?

Critical thinking in OB ... HELP!! Jaundice newborn
What anon said, exposure to daylight can help, even through a window. Of course, not so long they burn, etc.

How did I get an A in med/surg and a C in OB??
Like others my program has a different scale than your usual 90/80/70 etc. In my program 93-100 is an A. 86-92 a B. And 78-85 is a C. Everything below 78 is failing!

How did *you* rock it today?
Whew! Took two tests today after one yesterday! Passed yesterday's with an 87, just found out. Hopefully good grades today too.

Nursing school orientation -- Fall 2010
Whew! Just got back...long almost 8 hour day and it was 1.5 hours from me (main campus of a 3-campus system). Tired and head hurts but a lot of information to chew on. There was a review of critical thinking skills, legalities of nursing, medical terminology, library overview, and a big section on learning styles. Tomorrow is an equally long day which will include some more topic-oriented lectures in the morning, the possibility of registering (but no guarantee?) and an in-depth look at the course syllabi, book lists and calendar. So the nuts and bolts....

Websites to get cheap books
I used the international editions of my micro, a&p and chemistry textbooks. Same exact material, just softbound. Saved big $$'s!

Everyone Starting Nursing Courses Fall 2010
Hey there! I'm planning to start a nursing program full-time in Fall 2010 as well. Right now I'm finishing up my last prereqs (Micro and AP2) and applying for a few programs in my area. I have a previous B.A. in anthropology and am looking at both a BSN program as well as a couple of ASN programs. Either way, I will be starting next fall!

Fall Schedule!
I am continuing to work full time and take care of my one year old. Fall 2009: Microbiology (online with on-site lab) A&P2 (online with on-site lab) Whew! That will be enough! I can apply to the program I am interested in in January.

According to their website (http://www.pccua.edu/alliedhealth/adn_admission_requirements.htm): "Students are admitted to the HWH campus every year, DeWitt campus on even years, and Stuttgart campus on odd years." Applications are due on June 1 for the following fall. Therefore, Stuttgart is starting this fall, DeWitt in fall of 2010 and you would need to apply in winter/spring of 2009. This is only my understanding, but I did email with the head of the program with some questions about my courses that need to be transferred and she said to let her know when I finished my pre-req's this fall so she could send me the nursing application in January for fall 2010 at DeWitt.

Family and the need for some change brought me to Hot Springs back in 2005. I do love it here and plan to visit often. My fiance works in Stuttgart and lives in Almyra during the week but is here on the weekends -- so it's time soon to join the households up and it makes more sense for us (my son and I) to move there for a few years. I'm finishing up prereq's in Hot Springs and will probably make my way out there about April/May of next year.

DeWitt is every other Fall, as I understand it. Stuttgart in odd years, DeWitt in even years. I'm still trying to prepare myself for the move to Almyra, actually. I moved to Hot Springs from Los Angeles 4 years ago...but this is an even bigger change for me! But I'm excited, for sure. Thanks for the feedback! And good luck with your program.
