Roller board vs slider
Wow! We trialed those and said ‘NOPE'! Sorry you're stuck with them! It just seems logical that the potential for staff back injuries would factor into these decisions.

Roller board vs slider
They are saying because roller boards cause more patient injuries. So I asked...how many injuries have we had? The answer..none. So, why did we switch? Blank stare. Truth be told...our new charge nurse used them at the surgery center she worked at...she likes them. So...they changed them.

Securing arms during steel reverse trendelenberd
We wrap the elbows in either a foam egg crate elbow pad or a gel elbow pad...and then we tuck the arms. We often foam/gel pad the hands as well to guard from them accidentally slipping and coming into contact with any metal on the bed or stirrups (if used). Hope that helps!!

New OR RN Seeks Starting Point
Something that helped me a great deal was this book!!! I would read over the procedure in Alexander's Guide, but it didn't always address my specific concerns as a circulator! You can actually download this book Kindle style to your phone and use it as a quick reference for positioning and prep! It sounds like you are going through the normal growing pains of joining the OR staff!! Hang in there! It takes a while, but you'll find your sea legs!! Operating Room Rules
My hospital facility states "no chipped nail polish"...which cracks me up because when do you know your nail polish is going to chip? Definitely a no no for anyone who is scrubbing, and as a newer RN in the OR (6 1/2 years) straight out of nursing school, I have been struggling/fighting to learn to scrub in my facility, but I have been informed by our new management team that "this is NOT a teaching hospital - so I will not be given the opportunity to learn to scrub" so, sadly, I think the newer incarnations of OR Circulator RNs are not going to be scrubbing cases, so maybe rules like this will be a little less strict?

Roller board vs slider
Hello! I'm trying to find research regarding Roller Boards vs Slider Boards. My surgical department has recently acquired a brand new management team (Director, Manager, Charge). Their management style leads them to implement changes without consulting nor informing the staff. New stuff just shows up. The most recent, and quite significant, event is the removal of all roller boards that have been replaced by slider boards. No inservice. No explanation. Numerous RN's and techs have challenged this change and been told "we'll keep an old roller board in this storage room if you need it." Slider boards are high friction...and recommended for pt's under 157 lbs..according to the small amount of info I could find. 95% of our pt's are well over that benchmark! Staff complaints and concerns are being completely disregarded, and it's OUR back injuries the hospital is going to end up paying for! Have any of you seen a study or documentation of the benefits v drawbacks between these two products? I could really use some back up informational smarts from y'all!! THANK YOU!!!

Nurse Manager Bully REWARDED After 80% staff goes to HR!!
I never wanted her ‘destroyed', although it was very clear by her actions that is exactly what she wanted for me.... My hope was that she would be moved to another department. There is absolutely no trust between this person and current staff...and she has significant involvement in our paperwork. I understand there are paper trails....and theoretically there is nothing she could do to any of us who went to HR, but there is evidence of such vindictive behavior...long held grudges (for years) that this person has held against staff members, it is unsettling that she is still roaming the halls of our department.

Nurse Manager Bully REWARDED After 80% staff goes to HR!!
How do I reconcile this??!!! I was the target of a notorious nurse manager bully for close to two years. I'm a pretty tough gal. I came to nursing as a second career...so I'm definitely an adult with a pretty thick skin, but.... This manager decided she didn't want me to find any success in my career after I asked a question (respectfully) in a meeting...and she LOST HER CRAP at me in front of the entire staff....and...I was right for asking the question! I was, simply put, right! She was notorious for this kind of behavior...so I blew it off and continued to do my job....which I do WELL! Immediately following, I lost any and all training and mentoring opportunities that I sought...or that I was requested for! I was assigned the longest rooms (I'm in surgery) so there was ZERO chance I could pursue ANY independent opportunities. This went on for almost two years! The entire staff AND my director were all aware! My director swore he would address it...and did NOTHING! And anyone else who tried to advocate for me (staff) was punished as well! So....our hospital is a "zero tolerance" facility. Probably 80% of our staff went to a meeting with HR about this manager! Even PAST employees came as my issue was just a symptom of an ongoing problem with this manager! Results? HR took her out of the Charge position, put her on probation, and gave her a nice cushy informatics job STILL IN OUR DEPARTMENT!!!! HOW THE FRICKITY FRACK IS THIS ZERO TOLERANCE??!!!

Surgical RN's Post Call Day Off??
I'm taking an informal survey. At my facility, we take the first day post call (1st call only) off. I'm being told we are the ONLY hospital in America that practices this way---ALL other hospitals in the US just require you to work post call (unless you call out). I'm curious to the ways other facilities handle this situation. thanks for your time!!

Oscillating lung sounds on a vent??

Oscillating lung sounds on a vent??
ok. sorry. i'm still trying to keep all of the terms straight. i do mean auscultating. i'm going into my rt out-rotation, and this is one of the items i'm supposed to listen to - i'm trying to get a jump on things. i've heard the rt was kinda slow for a couple of students - and they didn't get to hear anything. i'm wanting to find an example to listen to online if at all possible. again, sorry for the inaccurate verbiage. still working on the learning curve here. thanks so much!!
-
Oscillating lung sounds on a vent??
does anyone know where i can find samples of oscillating lung sounds on a vent? i can find recordings of many other lung sounds, but nothing on a vent. i'm going into rt and i've been told this is something to understand before i go. thanks so much!!
