new grad offered nurse manager position
Precisely why I don't advocate it. :) And you're right, mine was just a rare case where it worked because of circumstances that's all.

I agree. As a new grad RN I confer...no experience compares. But in my case, it was a skills set, not necessarily the experience and it doesn't mean I don't understand the role. I've precepted LVNs and even trained RNs on specific procedures and worked there long enough to understand the duties and workings of the department. The RNs respect me because I have proven myself knowledgeable and am always willing to help out when needed. The MDs respect me for the same reason and appreciate my work ethic.

In my particular situation, I did have bedside experience. Like I said, I'm not advocating new grads with no hospital or bedside experience to take management positions. I'm merely saying there can be exceptions based on the situation and it just depends on the facility and staff.

That's your personal opinion and one you are entitled to. But to say that a new grad manager would have no idea of what it's like to be a nurse is not entirely true if you've worked in the department for many, many years and know how it runs from top to bottom. A person might have years of managerial experience and years of clinical experience at a different level that may lack a few skill sets that can easily be obtained through training. Like I said, it's a situational decision. I'm not saying that I advocate new grads going into nurse manager positions however I am saying that if a situation presents itself and there is the support of all parties concerned, staff and physicians, than it can be possible.

Might depend on the situation. I am a new grad RN BSN who was offered an RN Supervisor position right out of the gate. A lot depends on the experience with the institution as well as the department/unit one would be managing. I had to think hard about accepting this position but the support of the majority of the RNs as well as the MDs in my department, made it an easier decision to make. I might be the exception to the rule, but there are always exceptions given a particular situation.

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
Hi Vernava...check in the morning. They are behind because of friday. My friend took it on the 22nd and she too called the BRN who told her her information was entered yesterday and to keep checking. The same thing happened to me when my information was entered on a Monday, I saw my name on that Wednesday. If you got the pop up trust it, and just be patient. It will show up.

CA BRN
Hi Vernava, Friends of mine who took it on a Wednesday heard on tues the next week. I took my exam on a monday but my school hadn't sent the transcripts until the day before I was supposed to get my results so it ended up taking 1 1/2 weeks to get the results. Hopefully by tomorrow you will see your result. Good luck.

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
Yay, my results finally came in...I passed! Woohoo. The trick worked. I waited a week and half for results because of the wait for final transcripts. I gotta give the CA BRN credit though, they did let me know what I needed and even though they wouldn't give results over the phone, they had a way of conveying the message to me without physically saying it. Glad I am off the rollercoaster and may God be with those who are still riding it. Good luck....and believe in the trick....it really does work.

Exactly why I am not one of these Cali new grads who are freaking out about not getting results right away...that and I have old school friends who have reminded me time and time again about having to sit for the exam for two days straight and then wait 6 weeks for results. We have it made these days whether it's 3 days or 3 weeks. LOL. Wants the process is understood, it is just a matter of being patient. I was skeptical about the trick in the beginning but even not getting results yet, I have to believe that the exceptions were just isolated incidents for whatever reason, and the trick really does work.

I'm almost thinking that would be better in the long run :). In California we can sit for boards with preliminary paperwork so it is a matter of taking it real early and waiting forever for results or waiting to take the exam and getting results right away. But in either case, if there are issues at the school level releasing the final transcripts, results can be delayed even longer. I took the exam last week and found out my final transcripts had not even been sent until after I sat for the exam so I am still waiting for results.

I wonder even if California had quick results, I would imagine they still wouldn't release those results with an incomplete file. A lot of the problems people at our school are having with the BRN in Cali are not with the BRN so much as with our school not sending our final transcripts.

They get your preliminary paperwork...that allows you to test. We had to turn that in before we even graduated. The BRN has to wait for your final transcripts that has your degree posted before they will release your results. There can be holds on final transcripts or delays from the school of nursing depending on what the problem is.

You might want to check with your school also. I took the exam last 7/13 in CA...got the pop-up, and did not see results. When I called the BRN, they said, that my file was incomplete, and that they hadn't received my final transcripts from my school. She also said that things may take longer because of the budget problems and having to close on Fridays. Good luck.

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
Hi...okay now I'm wondering about the validity of the pop up. I've been reading the posts for sometime and thought of myself as a firm believer that seeing the pop up was a good thing. But when calling Pearson this morning, I was told, I couldn't re-register without an authorization to test (ATT) so how would it let anyone get through to the credit card page without first contacting the BRN? He told me I couldn't register to retake the exam without the ATT. So now I am confused and a little nervous. My test shut off at 75 questions and now I am also playing the waiting game. Ugh!
