Thank you so much for being so kind and caring towards that Mother! You don't know how much that meant to her!! I am a nurse too, but two years ago I had a little girl and she ended up dying from NEC. I brought her into the world and then 11 days later I had to take my little baby off of a ventilator. It was the most horrible thing I've ever had to do/go through. What I remember the most (and I remember everything) is the kindness from the wonderful nurses that were around the NICU that my daughter was in. So I know that Mom is very greatful for what you have done for her/them! Thank you for being such an amazing nurse! (((HUGS)))

In Ontario Canada, LPN's are called RPN's (registered practical nurses) and we are registered with our College of Nurses...our R.N.'s are also registered with the same College of Nurses. We also have personal support workers...which are kind of like health aids (they need to go to college for this). I'm an RPN. I have a difficult time telling people what I actually do for a living...the general public doesn't understand...they just think that everyone in scrubs is a nurse or a doctor. I have friends who are personal support workers...and I have heard them call themselves nurses. It ticks me off because I don't think they understand how much work it is to become a nurse and to keep up your license.

Hi, I am an RPN and I have worked in an ICU. I think that the R.N.'s liked having the help, they always knew that I would not overstep my scope of practice, and since I have medical training and a nursing license to up hold, they knew that I was responsible for my actions and they didn't need to explain everything that they were doing. I never took a patient load...just helped the R.N.'s. I used to take care of patients who were on chronic ventilators...so I did not feel uncomfortable at all. It was the best nursing job that I've had. I worked in Ontario
