  1. Hi, I got into nursing school without any preparation. I got kick out. In that time I do think of many things. I blame on my fiance, yell at my family, depress and cried a lot. Then, I realized that it is ok to fail and it is ok to be rejected. There always a place that will take you and accept you. Just keep trying and praying. Hope things go well!
  2. Hi, I want to say that I want to be a nurse since high school, but because my family I had my career leave behind. I didn't became a nurse until 27. I was depress as well because many people are young now in day when they have their nursing job. But then you can not compare with anyone, but yourself. You didn't not lost anything and you gain something from taking that long to start nursing school. One thing you gain is you have a family. Many people who work with me they don't have a family. Therefore, I wish you luck.
  3. Hi everyone, I need some help. The unit I am working soon is wearing a seal blue color scrub. What color is that? and is the color looks like navy blue or something call ciel blue. Please let me know... I don't want to spend money on a wrong color scrub and don't want to look stupid on the first day of work. Thanks everyone in advance, Happy!
  4. You don't have to worry. I had a friend who stop in the same number as you and she passed. Wish you luck..
  5. Hi, i don't want to pour some cold water to anyone. But I just had a hard time trust the gov't because what I saw in the hospital with all these veteran and what happen to them. Many of people might understand what I am saying. I believe that medical should be reform, but reform with someone who understand medical issues and what cause these issues to happen in the first place. I saw that they cut down some of the hospital funding, but it seems like affecting many nurses and doctors and affecting the patients the most. I really wish that we are not like Canada even through we are going that direction. I had relative in Canada and they have to wait for so long to just get a X-ray to be done. It is crazy. I am talking about patient perspective. It will help the people in this health system if the govt understand us the people who work in the system not the business perspective.
  6. If I omit that experience. Would it be possible when they asked because during my interviews. They all asked about my previous experience and I was honest about it. I never receive a call back at all. I heard someone told me that it is illegal to lie in your resume or when they ask. I know that probably my previous job is hurting me and I really honest about it when I do my interview, but I know people don't care about your honestly because they are hiring for worker. They are not hiring someone who resigned because experience issue. This make me really disappointed because many people who graduated now can not find a job because many places are not hiring people without the experience. Many jobs I saw it lists online, they required one years of experience even most of them are med-surg floor.
  7. Hi everyone, I had posted a thread last month or three weeks ago about my job hunting experience right now. I lost my job like almost 1 and half now and still not hired in this minute. I had interviews and still have not have any hire. I am worry right now because I am not sure my previous job is hurting me or something went wrong with my interview. I am worry. I read many posts over there about people been terminated or resigned and can not find a job or having a hard time finding a job. I resigned because my manager said I was not experienced enough for the floor. I explain to people in the interview why I resigned, but they all said they need to call my previous manager before they made a decision. I am worry because he told me that he will place a hold or something that I might unable to hire back to the same hospital. He also told me that he hold on the materials that my preceptor had write me up all the mistake that I made. (Those mistake that I made, I was so anxiety during the time and I made mistakes or said the wrong things to doctors or ask doctors to spell medication for me due to many of the doctors are international. It is hard for me to understand them sometimes. My preceptor told me that she will write me up, therefore, she had evidence to give to the manager that I am not qualify for the unit. That was my first month in that floor. It cause me a lot of anxiety because my preceptor and said sorry that she had no time to teach me due to the floor is really busy, but in the second day of work she will become someone who is crazy. She will said all these emotional attacking sentence to me as well as she will find little things to attack me instead teaching me. Maybe, that how she teach.. I am really hurt by it already due this is my first nursing job after I graduated. I really didn't mine to resigned because the floor is for someone who suppose to have at least 2 years experience before able to be hired. I was lack of the critical thinking that they want me to have at the time. I wonder what is the best way to talk to people in my interview when they ask you why you leave the floor and then if we call your previous manager what you think he or she will said about you? How I respond to these questions? I also want to ask people about your opinion that should I be a nurse or should I go back to school for another degree. Is this normal for some place who is unlucky as me? Is that how manager treat nurses all over the place? Thanks in advance for your input... Happy!
  8. [quote=chrisciwi;372671 I think that if Obama really wants this to work in the way that he wishes it to, he needs to set a minimum of how many nurses work per bed, and doctors per bed, which will require hospitals to HIRE more doctors and nurses, so that a huge jump in patients wont be such a huge effect (WHILE MANDATING SALARY MINIMUM, AND COST OF LIVING RAISE EVERY YEAR) I know that sounds far fetched but is it really? If the customer base increases (more like when) they will need more staff, BUT wont hire more staff, just overwork the staff they already have present. What do you think? I wish president Obama think of that as well, but he is a government. Also, what happen to the lawsuit that doctor and nurse receive. Why the government does think of that because the reasons for all these X-ray and waste from hospital because hospital, doctor and nurse need to do that to cover themselve. If you talk about England, I remember English people don't sue as much as people in US. Majorities of health cost is because malpractice insurance. I did not heard about one sentence in the Medical reform news about malpractice insurance that doctor is paying. If this is going to this way. Doctors will be in more trouble than nurses because majority doctors who graduate from medical school. They are already in 200 thousand dollars in debt. Then, when they go to residency they are only making like Sorry to say these things about our government, but it is hard for me to accept to have a lower stuffing or losting anyone in my job. I saw many nurse got fired from hospitals that they have been working there for more than 10 years. They never have problem until this year because their hospital losting moneys. Their manager has to find an excuse to fired them. They started to make up and started to write up little things you and take it to HR. You are got... :angryfire When I went to my orientation, these are nurses who tell me the story about their career. I wish I know it before I go to nursing school. I won't pick nursing even I care about people and have the passion to take care of people. But if hospital treated me like that when I am so loyal to them. It is hurt and really hurt...
  9. I wonder anyone read the last news about the medical reform. They are cutting hospital moneys and hospital already losting moneys, but government is cutting hospital moneys. When the hospital is losting moneys and the they have to take an extra cut from the government. What happen to the CEO? Are they willing to cut their salaries for others? Or are they willing to back down their salaries for not firing all these people? Do managers think about the nurses? The reasons, I am asking all these questions is because hospital is like a chain. If the big guys don't make as much, what happen to the small people. ...
  10. Hi everyone, Right now in Michigan, RN job is hard to find. Due to many manager using the economy to hire more experienced nurse. I just had an interview couple days ago and this manger was really telling me how the reality of nursing is now. I just move here from California. It is crazy in California and it is crazy in Michigan. I wonder which state is good now to go.
  11. Well, that what they can say legally, but they can say more. When company wants to hurt you, you can not do anything. Move on. I hope someone will understand your situation.
  12. Thanks for your understanding. I had talk to my manager about it. The manager did not do anything and used that again me in the end when I quit the floor. I told the manager what happen and the manager did take care of it. I write a letter and follow the procedure when I leave that floor. In the end, my manager still put me in a blacklist. It was hurtful for me. I can not believe someone will do things like that to you. But I saw that manager did the same things to two other nurses that leave the floor previously. That why I follow the law and procedure, but in the end it still the manager did that to me. It happen in hospital because there are people who try to cover themselve up. My preceptor I believe she is a nice person outside because every week the first day she comes to work. She was so nice to me. Then the second day she will start to harassing me. Telling me I am not good in this and that. It always happen in the second day. The first day, she will be have a good day. The second day she will make things like going through hell. I think that why she write me up because she wanted to cover herself as well. I am worry about not finding a job in this minute. Fear of employer call for reference to my previous employer. I still tell the trust to my interview now. I hope someone understand and hire me. May God see everything that is out there now in days.
  13. I feel the same that they should cut the administrative costs, but in the business positive I feel that hospital won't do that. They will cut PCT, Nurse assistant, RN, and then salaries of the residents. They might cut some of the doctors as well. It really depend on the department. But I wonder why the president does not control the law suit that hospital receives to limit the price that patient can get. I know Florida has that law. Or why he does not lower the cost of malpractice insurance in some state. I read some article in some state that because of malpractice insurance issue. There are some state has hard time finding nurses or doctor to work for them. I forget where I saw that article. But I remember I saw it before it. I just really wish that the medical does not be hurt by it because RN is really under pay in some state. And we work long hours, treat badly by either coworker or patient and stress out.
  14. Awww. I am scared right now. The way it is going. The hospital will be cutting people and patients will not have a safe place to go. This is scary. I fear it will be like Canada. One of my friend who is in medical school right now. She used to be a nurse in Canada. She told me the nurse patient ratio is really bad. That why she does not want to take it anymore. She left and become a doctor in US right now. She told me that US is changing to become more like Canada. I hope this won't affect nurses, but it is not to be affected because when you decrease moneys who they will cut. Everyone!
  15. Hi, It happen in hospital now in days. I live in California and it is hard to find a nurse or preceptor will be patient with you. Many preceptor does not seem like want to teach you. I been through a time when my preceptor told me that I was not good in this and that and she wrote me up. Therefore, when I was terminated they can use it as evidence. I cry home that day. All I want to say it is not your fault to ask questions because you are new and asking questions are something you should do. People now in days just don't have patient and really don't have the heart for people anymore.
  16. Hi, Right now Michigan economic is bad. Many hospitals do have job posted, but they are not hiring. They just posting those job. If you have hospital experience more than 1 year. You might able to find a job in midnight or not so good location. I just got a job interview two days ago and the manager told me that right now it is the best time for manager because he can do whatever he wants to the nurses out there. Nurses don't have support anymore. I was scared by his words. I hope you think and talk with your family about you move to Michigan because it is not so nice out there. May God be with you.
  17. I just want to said that I do not believe any nurses or health care providers out there are consider serial killer. Serial killer is someone has plan to harm someone. I believe health care providers and nurses do not want to harm someone. I can said they might hurt someone because the way hospital in these days. There are too many things for them to cover and too much responsibilities that they might hurt someone indirectly. I saw nurses cried when they thought they hurt their patients, but hospital really pushing the nurses doing things on time and give them 6-8 patients. They were not those easy mix with hard. These patients were alcoholic, mental disorder, seizure, cancer and many more. It was hard for those nurses. I saw them stay there like 2 hours before they leave after they gave report to the next shift. But the manager wanted to stop that because he did not want to pay extra for these nurses. My preceptor felt bad that she did not have the time to teach me because the floor is too busy. She had patient who was not suppose to be in our floor, but instead that patient was on our floor. End up the patient coded, but I couldn't said my preceptor hurt the patient or want to kill the patient because there were two other patients who want morphine every hour or dilantine every hour.
  18. Thanks! During the interview. I was really nervous. I did not say anything bad about my previous job. I felt it just something happen when people just did not fit or the floor did not fit someone likes me. I personally, did not think about any legal action or anything. I know that he wanted me to resign instead just fired me because if he fired me the company had to pay unemployment, but if he just asked me to resign than they didn't have to pay for unemployment. I want to say thank you two for helping me out. I wish the human resource people understand that someone is telling the true.
  19. Hi nurses, I will make it short. 1. I resigned two weeks ago because the manager said he will fire me if I don't resign from my position. The reason was I was not doing well in the floor due to the floor is heavy floor for someone just graduated. 2. The manager told me that it was not a good fit and he will place something in the system that I can not find job in the same system until I work in another hospital or have more training. "I was crying all the way home. Try to comfort myself because things happen in life. God see everything." 3. I got an interview from another hospital. I was so excited. I was honest and told them that the manager said it is not a good fit. They said they will contact the manager since I don't have any reference. I told them sure. I thought the manager won't be mean. 4. Well! The recruitment lady called me and told me that they can not offer me the job. I asked them is something wrong or the reason I am not qualify for the job. She said my previous manager said that I need more training and I will make this short. He simply said I was stupid because I did not know much... My confident is hurt and don't know what to do anymore. I feel lost. I read many posts about manager. I hope that God is still with me. :crying2:I want to ask everyone, should I honest again in my resume or should I just not put the previous experience in there? Will I going to get another job in the future? Should I find job in another area beside nursing because I feel I won't find a nursing job any more.
