  1. Tuition is close to $11,000 a year. And books are bout another 1,000 a year. And if you live on campus, your room is another extra cost. It's not exactly ideal when it comes to cost, but the experience and training is worth it in my eyes. Im not exactly lucky because I did not receive very much aid or scholarships...so i'll be paying off loans til I die.lol. Deaconess offers clincials to their students at the beginning of the sophmore year...and the majority of the clinicals are held right there at the hospital the school is built in(Forest Park Hospital). So its very ideal to have your classes in one part of the building and be able to walk over to another to start your clinicals. And in comparison to most universities and other colleges, Deaconess offers the most clinical hours by the time we graduate. I mean, at other places, we wouldn't even start clinicals until the end of our junior year!! Hope that helps.
  2. you've got the right idea. telling them what they want to hear isn't too difficult since its basically all true. just make sure they know that nursing is your goal, your future, and your heart's intentions. i think they just want to hear that your dedicated to becoming a nurse and there is nothing there to stop you. but from the sounds of it, you wont have any problems joining us. maybe ill even see you around:) good luck.
  3. the only way i am able to afford deaconess is because of my parents. they took out a nice big loan to help me pay for school. that's how many of the students here are doing it. lots and lots of loans. since i was just an average student in high school(3.4gpa), i didn't qualify for acedemic scholarships. but there are hospitals that do tuition reimbursment. in fact, from what i've heard, if you already have your asn degree and are working for a hospital, that hospital will pay for you to finish your schooling. but if you like me and are starting with nothing, most programs make you wait until your a junior to sign you on...mainly just to make sure that is what you want to do for your career. but as far as getting into deaconess, i dont find it to be very difficult. there is a variety of girls(and a couple guys) here. there are some girls that were at the top of their class and others that were just average or even less than average. when you apply, just tell them what they want to hear on the essay part and you should have no problems. hope this helps.
  4. Im a freshmen at Deaconess this year. I love the school(i live on campus). I looked into so many other schools and none of them compare to Deaconess. We start our clinicals at the beginning of our sophmore year...all the other schools make you wait til your almost a senior. I have many family friends that are nurses and this was one school they recommended highly. Since Im a freshmen, i can't give you too much information, but it seems to me like all the upper classmen love it. The only problem with the school is the fact that there is very little communication between the staff in the offices. But as far as the program...its excellent!
  5. Im a student at Deaconess. I promise you, there are NO brains on the menu. Our food plan is through the hospitals cafe.(not like that is much better than brains:) ). We actually get normal meals like hamburgers and nachos. I hope they dont dig up any of that old stuff, for my sake.
