What a great recap of what we do in the operating room! I would also like to add that the training period for a circulator in the operating room is usually 6-9 months or more. Whereas, a circulator can transfer to the floor and take care of patients in a matter of days.
I too have been circulating in the O.R. for a long time. About 4 years ago, I discovered C&C Sweden. Their shoes are very comfortable. You have to purchase them on line or you can usually find a booth at AORN Congress.
Always think of you as the patient....would you want a "clean" fiber used on you versus one that is "sterilized?" We are our patient's advocate....do not use any fiber that is not sterilized properly (we use disposable fibers)....get your OR Director and/or laser safety officer involved if necessary. Also, review your facility's laser policy. Good luck!
