Hi everyone, I to am probably going to be making the move from Austin to San Antonio when my lease is up in October because I have been accepted to San Antonio College's LVN to ADN program, not to mention my family lives there. I am pretty excited about going and can't wait to start. Thanks for the links Miranda, I will be looking for a job over there in the future as the time gets closer. Leisa, did you find a job yet at any of the hopitals? Let us know which one you liked best. I hope I can find a job at a hospital when I get there. I have been in LTC for a year and am ready for a change. Austin is a nice place to live but it's hard for an LVN to get a hospital job around here due to the hospitals' preference for RN's. I will miss Austin but I know I will like San Antonio. Has anyone around here ever gone to SAC's nursing program? If so, how did you like it? Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Hi, I am not sure if they accept CNA or PCT experience. As far as I know they only accept EMT's and LVN's with 1900 hours of direct patient care. It is fast paced due to the program being 3 semesters long. You can try calling the program at (512)223-5700 to check if your experience is acceptable. Good luck!

Just had to say congratulations on getting in the ADN program! I to have heard how very tough the program is. While at the hospitals last year I remember hearing from the nursing staff how well prepared ACC ADN graduates were on the job compared to graduates from other schools. I hope to get into the mobility track program this fall if all goes well. I have to get through Micro. this semester and still take my HESI exam. Again, congratulations on getting in and good luck in the program.

Melody, I have called the hospitals and LTC facilities for LVN pay over here and have only been quoted for GVN pay, in the hospital for a new grad it's $13.50 and for LTC I have found that they range from $12.00-$17.00 an hour. Since your not a new grad I am sure your pay will be higher than what I have been quoted. The hospitals here are more RN friendly than they are towards LVN's, they don't offer a big selection of different floors to work, most openings for LVN's in the hospital are usually med-surge. The hospitals told me to that if they do hire LVN's they prefer an LVN in the process of getting her RN degree. LTC is always hiring and I am sure you can go to a LTC facility and tell them the pay you want and they give it to you. As for areas near Austin, Bastrop, Manor, Kyle and Buda are all less expensive to live than Austin and not too far away, usually no more 30 minutes away. Good luck to you on your move over here. Hi, I do know that a new GN starts off at $18.80 an hour at the hospitals here in Austin. I have "heard" the hospitals pay the experienced RN anywhere from $21-25 an hour, possibly more depending on your specialty and agency can be $24-$30. Good Luck on where you decide to go.
