Im extremly interested in the nursing program and have been for a long time now. I have currently moved to Texas around the Dallas area and have been doing research on a few schools PJC and TVCC, I also came across Dallas Nursing Institute. Well my problem right now is I still have to do my pre reqs which Im wanting to do online. I just cant figure out how to go about getting started, do I apply online for general studies? I was just going to go to PJC and apply for the fall courses but they only offer their nursing program in Paris TX which is way to far of a drive for me but they do offer the pre preqs there. But if I do my pre reqs there then try to transfer them to another collage does that just make things more complicated? Should I just start my pre reqs at the collage Im going to attend the nursing program? Also I know it says I need to get my immunization records,if we dont have that how do we get it? along with the MMR, Hep B, and tetnus shots (correct me if Im wrong) And how do we get our high school transcripts? We also have the TSI that we have to complete.... There just seems to be way to much to do.... How did you all go about starting the nursing program when you had all this stuff to complete before you can apply to the program? Any advice would be great Thanx PS sorry for any spelling errors

SOOOO DISGUSTING! I dont let my son play in those. . .only once and that was when we where traveling on a long road trip just to let him get out and burn some energy. The only reason I actually let him is bc there was no ball pits or anything, mostly just like a jungle gym with slides

Thank you for all your input. . .after a rough nights sleep and reading all your replies I decided to do a little more research on it to understand it better, which I should have done before I jumped the gun. I guess its just my nature as a mother when a kid is involved. Although I still feel horrible, I have realized that she could have picked it up from ANYWHERE! I didn't realize that it was an epidemic, WOW! My question now is, once she is out of the hospital is my son safe to be around her?

I have been working as a CNA for the past couple months, and I want to go into nursing. Well that is until today. . My sister called me today and told me she had to take her 8 month old girl to the ER bc she spiked a fever of 106, was in a lot of pain and shaking from it, and how she has a huge boil on her leg and other places. The doc thinks its MRSA!!!! They had to give her a little bit of morphine to take some of the pain away bc she was in so much pain that she was shaking. I just dont understand, I take all the precautions at work (or at least I thought I did) and wash my hands countless times. . . . My sister babysits my son, my husband is the one who drops him off and picks him up the days I work, so I am never over there. Yesterday was my first time there in a couple months and it wasn't even on a work day. I come home every night take my clothes and shoes off by the door run upstairs to take a shower. I dont touch my son or anything until I have taken a shower. Is it possible that I could have brought it home and my son took it to my sisters? I feel just awful. . .I want nothing to do with nursing anymore, I just dont feel that its worth the risk of my family and loved ones. IDK what to do :crying2: They said the doc told them it could have came from anywhere, but whats the chances of that? I can't stand the feeling that maybe I gave my niece something that she can never get rid of, it breaks my heart.

All of my referenes know they are trying to be contacted, I let all my professional references that I used them, like I said they keep playing phone tag. I feel that HR isn't making theirselves available for my references when they do call back so if they never answer their phone they can't expect to get a hold of them, right? Im just worried that they wont hire me bc they can't get a hold of my references, does that happen? even if everything else comes back good?

So on Wednesday I went in for an interview for a CNA position, gave them my references, filled out paper work, got a tb test and a drug test done. In the interview she said as long as everything comes back good then I have the job.Today I went back up there to have my tb results read which was negative. I was talking with the lady in HR who done my interview and she said she still hasn't got my drug test results back and that she has been playing phone tag with my references. . . which I'm really annoyed by because it seems that NOBODY is making their selves available. All my references pretty much work during the day so when she calls they dont answer they call her back she dont answer, anytime I call up there she dont answer either. So she asked if I could give her another reference which I did and I also told her the best time to call one of the others was after 3. I have no more references to give her I gave her like 5!! Well my question is what happens if they never get a hold of my references? Will they just not hire me? Im really frustrated and stressed out right now bc of this situation

I even had to do a drug test and Im nervous about that and I have NEVER done any drugs. . .is that normal?

I live in Indiana and when I started my CNA course in Sept I had to have tb testing and a physical and I passed both. Well I went in for a job interview and I have to do another tb test, just one, and another physical. Why? I thought that you only had to do it once a yr. I dont understand why I have to do it again. The good news is I dont pay for any of it this time but what if my tb comes back negative this time or I dont pass my physical? Maybe Im just stressing for no reason bc I really need and want a job and I'm scared something is going to happen to keep me from getting a job, which if something does there is nothing I can do I guess. Am I stressing to much about this?

My husband used to work for Brown mackie, he was the Business Officer and in collections. His sister also worked in Financial Aid. Neither of them would not recommend that collage to anyone. They are not a credited collage, he has told me a lot of bad things about that collage and the way they have their classes set up. He said they are a rip off.

This past friday I went to the doctor bc I was having trouble hearing out of my left ear, come to find out I have an ear infection, which they gave me antibiotics for. Well after I went it starting getting worse with the pain and swelling and all that, not fun at all, it hurts like a mo fo Well last night I woke up to a sharp pain in my ear which my guess is my ear drum ruptured/perferated due to all the pressure behind it. Although it helped with the pain my ear is now draining not to mention I have a hole in my ear drum now. And I can hardly hear out of that ear due to all of this. Well I have my CNA state testing on thursday and IDK what to do? Its been hard for me to study, i can hardly concentrate bc of the pain, but I have managed to get half my studying done. I know I still have 3 days, but as of right now im still in pain and I know it takes a few weeks for ear drums to heal. I dont want to have to reschedule my test but what if I get pulled to do BP, I cant stick the stethescope ear pieces in my ear with an ear infection especially when Im in pain. But what if I call tomorrow and then by thursday everthing is fine, then I rescheduled for no reason. Would it be better to wait till Wednesday to call if its not better or would it be better to reschedule regaurdless? Any advice would be helpful, Thanx Thanx

if this is true then why do they put this stuff on their care plans? sounds to me like this facility goes against a lot of state regulation. how are we as students suppose to learn what is right and wrong when we are learning and watching everything that goes against this.

mrsa stands for methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus. the term is used to describe a number of strains of the bacteria, staphylococcus aureus, that are resistant to a number of antibiotics, including methicillin and if i'm correct it spreads through contact, unless its in the respritory system in that case it would become air born also it is completly up to you which one you wanna go for first. i chose to do cna first so i can make money while going to school, although its probably going to be hard. then hopefully by next fall i will be in school for lpn then after that for rn :) also different places offer cna classes just depends where you live, some hospitals will and some nursing homes will. i found my classes in the classified section in the paper, it was a a little place that was just for certificates. which ever one you go for you will have to have a tb test and a physical and whatever else your state requires. if i where you i would get online a search for cna classes in your area. my cna class was pretty compact but passed it with flying colors after i get done with my procedure book and clinicals i will schedule a time to take my state test when i pass that i will become certified. just remember that almost every state is different when it comes to this stuff :) good luck!

They do still have it, these residents are still in isolation, besides the one in the alzheimers unit. If they didn't have it they wouldn't be on isolation, right? Im guessing if they didn't still have it the nurse wouldn't have put on all her PPE , which should have been takin off before entering the hallway right?

im guessing maybe in the state of indiana we as care providers are allowed to know, they put all this kind of info on their care sheets. and as a care giver i think we have a right to know (my opinion, you nurses might not agree with that and that's okay) what kind of disease or infections we deal with concidering everthing we handle when it comes to bodily fluids. also just to clear it up we do not go around stirring up "trouble" or gossiping (at least i dont, this is the first time saying anything about this bc i wanted opinions from people on here about what to do not to be called a know-it-all as one of the other posters said) but when we are in class and are tought one thing and we are in clinicals trying to learn and we see everone from cna's to nurses doing stuff we are not suppose to because its agains the state regulations we have a right to be concerned. just because im a student or newbie doen't mean i should just let things go when it puts other people at risk. im not saying im going to go to the don or the administator and tattle on someone bc like you all said its not my place to do that but i do feel i have a right to address it to someone that can handle it, that does not make me a know-it-all and def does not mean im stirring up trouble or trying to change things. please do not take any of this offensive, im just trying to clear this all up, not trying to sound like a beotch or a know-it-all for that matter. i do appreciate everyones input.

I am not in any way going in anywhere acting like a know-it-all or trying to change anything. But I do believe I have a right to be concered for the residents that I take care of and myself. And if someone is putting my health and others health at risk, weather im a student or a newbie, I feel I have the right to say something to someone that can handle these types of situations. I know that people dont always wash their hands in the medical field thats obvious but there is no reason a nurse or anyone for that matter should come out of an isolation with their PPE on, that's for everyones protection

i started cna classes this month and the number one thing we learned to prevent spread of disease is wearing gloves and washing hands before and after any resident/patient which to me seems like common since among a few other things you shouldn't do, like putting linens back into the linen closet after its been taken out whether it was used or not, especially if it was on someone's bed and that person has mrsa, or when that person is in isolation and u have to put on the gown, gloves etc. and taking them off before exiting the room, am i right? well last wednesday was my first day of clinicals at this nursing home, one of the first things i noticed during my clinicals is that the aids almost never wash their hands sometimes don't even wear gloves when they should, don't get me wrong some of these aids where good but where not following standard precautions at all, of course i couldn't stop washing my hands. well sat i went in and i was in the alzheimer's unit and we went to toilet one of the residents, come to find out this resident has mrsa in her eyes, now mind you this person has alzheimer's and romes around the unit touching everything, shouldn't they have some kind of isolation for that person instead of letting her rome around touching everything with her hands after she is rubbing her eyes that have mrsa, bc when it comes down to it someone may come along touch the same object or her hands for that matter (anyone who has worked with alzheimer's patients know that they like to take you by the hand and go for walks or just hold your hand) then touch an open sore or their eyes and end up getting mrsa, please tell me if i got this wrong? last night was my 5th day in clinicals, so i get there and they put me on the hall i was on the first day, so i didn't think anything of it. well i started passing ice, come to find out one of the residents on that hall has mrsa in her osotomy opening and they didn't tell me till after i had already went into her room, thank god all i did was grab her water pitcher! but still my point of that is, i have a 17 month old so i like to know a head of time what im dealing with if you know what i mean. so as the day went on i went about my business helping the residents washing my hands nonstop (which i never seen the other aids do but maybe a couple times) there was one gentleman on that hall that i was helping with changing his clothes, toileting, transferring etc. well come to find out he has mrsa too in his urine! i didn't find that out until 5 min before my shift ended! although i wore gloves and washed my hands i still would have loved to know. this gentleman is right across the hall from this other lady that has it also. tell me if i'm wrong but isn't mrsa only spread through contact? because i find it kind of ironic how the aids never wash there hands or follows standard precaution and there is 3 people in that nursing home have mrsa and 2 are on the same hall, doesn't that say something? also, i seen the nurse of all people come out of this ladies room with gloves gown and the whole nine yards still on (after dealing with her osotomy where the mrsa is), taking them off while she walks down the hallway! shouldn't she have taken it off before exiting? then after that the aid i was working with goes into her room starts touching her bedding and everything without gloves, takes a couple of the bed pads that where on her bed and throws them back into the linen closet and we where taught to never do that, if it comes out and whether it's used or not it goes into the dirty linens to be washed. i was so disgusted by the end of the night with how they handled all this, i felt like i could have puked! i couldn't stop washing my hand bc they never wash theirs and they touch everything with their hands after dealing with the residents, so i was afraid i was going to touch something that they touched with their dirty hands. . . .im not trying to sound like i know everything and im not at all trying to say anything bad about the aids or nurses i am just so disgusted by this and feel that they are putting everyone at risk, am i wrong? i just feel that there is no such thing as being too cautious when it comes to this kind of stuff when working in the medical field and i don't feel that they were being cautious at all! is this something i should report?

Can we take any of our pre reqs online or do we have to do them all in class? I have taken a few online classes through Indiana tech (for business management, wast of my time) and english comp 1 is one of them, will that transfer? I hope so

I have no clue if thats normal, i dont know much about TB's besides the basic stuff. . .you should def post a new thread though so that everyone can see it and you may be able to get better answers faster but Im sure your fine :)

I live in NWI and I will be starting CNA soon and while I do that I want to go to school to get my nursing degree (want to start by next fall), is that possible? To work and go to school for nursing or is it really hard? Im hoping to find a job working for a hospital so I they will pay for it, if I do that do they do the classes through the hospital or do you just find a school that they pay for? If I could get any info or motivating stories from you all that would be great Thanks :)

I had a TB test this morning and I go back wednesday for a reading. . .I was just wondering how long it take for the results to start showing? I have a tiny red spot (looks like it does when you get a shot) where she poked me but thats it, if I was positive would it start showing already or does it take a while?
