Wondering if someone can educate me on the various types of loan repayment options. I am a new psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner working at a community mental health clinic (where I have worked as a nurse for the past 4 years). These are the questions I have: 1. What is the difference between Nurse Corps loan repayment and NHSC or are they the same thing? 2. Has anyone had to register their employer? I tried using the site look-up tool and saw other sites in my town listed but not mine. 3. Has anyone seen information on when the 2020 applications are due? 4. Does consolidating loans hurt the chances of being selected for repayment? Thanks in advance! I have tried reading the threads regarding this topic, but all of this information is overwhelming and I'm not sure where to start! Holly

The test was not as hard as I expected, but I studied pretty hard. I just want something that makes me stand out more than others, thats all.

Hi there. I am a psych nurse working in a clinic setting. One of my doctors let me borrow a book of his called "Without Conscience" by Robert Hare. It describes in depth the challenges of working with psychopaths/sociopaths. While it may not give you direct answers in how to work with these people, it will teach you the principles behind their behavior. Once you know why they act the way they do, maybe you can better work with them. I am about halfway through the book and I just started reading it 3 days ago. Just an idea if you want some reading material.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone. I do tend to be a little naive, even though I am a psych nurse and worked at our state prison prior to this job. I will certainly be getting nursing insurance, most likely through NSO. Thanks!!

One of the members of our risk management team stated that in some instances, a private policy would not even cover the work incident. Has anyone else found this to be true?

Going on with this same thread, my hospital assures me that I do not need any extra insurance, and that they will cover me. This is a large Catholic hospital that I would like to believe would cover me. Has anyone else heard this from their hospital?

Does anybody know what certifications are available for psychiatric nurses? I have recently taken the ANCC certification and passed, but am wondering if there are any more from any other certifying organizations.

I recently took and passed the ANCC exam. I did use the book provided by ANCC, but another nurse suggested the review manual by springhouse publishers. It is quite a bit cheaper than the ANCC manual, and I felt it was very useful. I ordered it through BarnesandNoble.com. I really liked the questions at the end of each chapter and the post-test at the end of the book.
