  1. I'm a little confused here? In the RN Program I'm attending bed making is covered in lecture and lab. So doesn't "bed making" fall under a nurse's scope of practice. If it doesn't why is it covered in the RN Program? If someone can clarify the matter I'd appreciate it your input.
  2. I felt unsure about microbiology as well but I gave it my best shot and am so grateful that I did! Currently, my nursing classes have referenced topics in class such as bacterial, viral and fungal infections which originate from microorganism as well as the cellular needs of microbes to thrive. Knowing all this basic information has helped me to understand why certain medications are used to treat illness as well as the importance of universal precautions. Needless to say, my advice is do your best because understanding microbes really comes in handy in nursing school. BTW even though I was unsuccessful at identifying my "unknown" I still received a "B". The "B" kept my GPA up, and the GPA of "required prereqs" is often taken into consideration for selecting nursing applicants from all that apply.
  3. Marian: Congrats to you as well for finishing from what I heard not everyone makes it. So far I've been doing a lot of reading. At the end of January we start clinicals at a nursing home. The instructors seem as if they really want us to be successful so that has kept me motivated. Thanks for the heads up. CK2
  4. I took my prereqs at San Antonio College. The following were very helpful instructors: A&P I - Mr. Torres A&P II- I heard Davenport is good. I had another instructor who I wouldn't recommend. Microbiology - Dr. Staggs (learned a lot but she's tough). I heard Mr. Rodriguez is easier. Chemistry - Took it online but I wouln't recommend it. Intro. to Nutrition-Telecourse with Prof. Brennan. Developmental Psych - On line course with Prof. Crane. Good luck and I help this helps.
  5. Baptist Health Systems - School of Nursing - San Antonio, TX Class of 2005
  6. I had to take A&P I with a lab as a prerequisite. If it hadn't been for that requirement I myself would have opted for just the lecture portion of the course. Which to me required a lot of memorization. The labs weren't very challenging nor did they seem to expand on the lectures. My final grade was an A. If you're a "visual learner" as oppossed to a "solitary learner" you may find the labs beneficial. I'm a "solitary learner" and thought the labs "repeated" info covered during lecture. Which I felt was a waste of time (for me anyway). I would've preferred utilizing A&P lab time for studying classes I found more difficult such as Microbiology. I hope this helps and good luck.
