Hi everyone, I'm a nursing student on my 3rd semester and am during my Med-Surg rotation. I'll be doing my clinical at the nephrology department and I was wondering what are some common issues and drugs and procedures that goes on in the nephrology department. Any tip on doing clinical there would be appreciated. Thank you!

Relating to Community Service Projects
Hi, I'm a Community Service chair in my community college's newly formed Nursing club. We are trying to get into some community services to give back to our community and also get our club better known. We already are planning to sponsor a blood drive on our campus and are going to public schools around our community to speak with junior high schools and high schools about the nursing occupation. But I was wondering if anyone can give me some ideas on events that they had held. By the way, my community college is in Los Angeles. Thank you.

NANDA Nursing Diagnosis HELP!
What I was taught in Nursing Diagnosis class was that a NANDA that is a "risk for" should not have AEB or AMB. Is that true? I am currently doing my psych clinic and wanted to write, Risk for violence to self/others r/t hallucinations and delusions amb sleep deprivation. It that a correct NANDA format? Or should I exclude the AMB? Also, is "Ineffective self health management r/t chronic illness aeb multiple admissions to mental health facilities" a correct format as well? My psy pt is diagnosed with a schizoaffective d/o as with as bipolar disorder. she was admitted after being found wandering in the street at night and having delusions of have her baby taken away. She was admitted to other mental health centers previously. No previous suicidal attempts.

HELP! I need to interview an ER/OB/Surgical nurse!
HI! I really need help! My nursing class is requiring for us to interview a nurse that we would like to become when we graduate. Unfortunately, I don't have any friends or family members that are ER/OB/Surgical nurses! Is anyone able to take their precious time to help me? I would be forever grateful! And just so you know, this isn't my whole paper. I have to write a paper base on the answers I get. So please don't think I'm pasting this so someone else can do the paper for me. I would really like to be an ER /Surgical/OB nurse someday!!! Thanks in advance for all of your help. Please don't feel obligated to answer all of the questions, but as much as you would like to will be greatly appreciated! What is your role as a Registered Nurse? Ask her or him to share their responsibilities for an 8 hr or 12 hr shift. 1. How many years has he or she been a RN 2. What was the initial preparation a. ADN b. BSN 3. How do they prepare for the shift 4. How many unlicensed personnel is the individual responsible for 5. How many licensed personnel is the individual responsible for. 6. How are assignments determined 7. What is the usual assignment for a. RN b. LVN c. CNA d. Other 8. What has been the greatest challenge faced as a RN in the last 3-5 years? 9. How does the acuity level of illness compare to 3 years ago?

Starting Out
Hi, I'm new to this forum and would just first like to comment how great to find a site like this for start-up students such as myself. So I recently just graduated with a Bachelor degree in Business Management. I really hate business and was always more interested in science, so a year ago I decided to get a nursing degree after my first business degree. I am current enrolled in East Los Angeles College to complete my pre-requisites to apply for nursing program in either CSULA, PCC, or LACC (please tell me other options if you know any that's in the Monterey Park area). Even after reading so much stuff about nursing, it seems like everytime I learn something new, 3 more questions pops out. So I hope people here are able to answer them for me. Thanks in advance. 1) So can anyone tell me the core steps that are needed to becoming a nurse? 2) Which school's nursing programs do you recommend? 3) I was looking over job listings on hospital websites, and a lot of them require nurses to have PALS and ACLS. How do I get it? Can I take the courses before becoming a R.N.? If so, where do you recommend me to take it? 4) I read that it's good to become a CNA before a RN, do you think so? I'm currently 23 years old this year, and would like to finish my degree and get a job soon to help out the family and pay off loans. 5) What other certifications or classes do you recommend me to take during my spare time? 6) When you get your license as a RN and you are working at a hospital, do you get to pick what field to work in? or do you work at wherever they station you? 7) What other city college classes do you recommend me to take other than the pre-requisit classes? 8) I registered to take both Anatomy and Physiology class during this fall semester, do you advice me to do so? I am a good test taker and am willing to read and study. Thank you all who took the time to read my long post. If anyone can provide me with extra help or are nice enough to be my mentor, I would greatly appreciate it. :redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe
