  1. NOCnewbie, thank you! you actually made me laugh. i am a 53 yr. old male nurse with 10 months experience in LTC. just got my RN in 04/2010. can't get a job due to "no experience" extremely depressed. long story to tell but have to go to sleep so i can get up & be depressed again tomorrow.but you made me laugh and i thank you for that!!!!!
  2. I am trying "optimized resveratrol" from Life Extension, bought at a local health food store. 60 day supply of 250 mg tabs is about $45. I am 52 years olds and have been a long term care nurse for 10 months. i started back to school to get my RN last week and hoping this along with running will help to keep my mind clear enough to finish and perhaps not age quite as fast. the running( I should say shuffling because that is a more accurate description of what i do) really helps with staving off the depression i was slipping into. perhaps the resveratrol helps me to exercise after a 2 year layoff. i have been taking it about 60 days now.
  3. I am 52 year old male nurse in the south, so don't anyone feel alone because you are old. i just got my lpn license in sept. of ' 08 and have been working in a long term care facility since October of '08. i too am debating whether to go back for my rn. i started in the rn program, so i have all my prereqs. i am just wondering whether to stay in nursing or do something else. there are rewards in dealing with the patients, but so much stress otherwise(working off the clock, paperwork, so much work and so little time etc). it seems to me to be so stressful and the pay is not that great. at least with an rn i would get paid more and wouldn't be limited to ltc. Don't get me wrong i love my patients and have a tremendous respect for older people. my mom (84) is in a nursing home in the last stages of dementia and i am 52 myself, as i said. however, the workload and stress, at least where i work is a lot for my age. i cannot do it on my own. i pray each day for the emotional, physical, spiritual and mental strength to take care of my patients and make it through another day. it is a rewarding but very trying job.
  4. thanks nansea, your advice and support is very encouraging. perhaps, if not a nurse you should be a counselor! i am going to be giving all options ( i used to be in outside sales, landscaping, painting) with much prayer. if i knew how to make people permanent contacts on here i would definitely make you one. thanks for your help and encouragement!!!!:)
  5. Thanks for replying. I am new to this site and could not find your original post again after sunday night. Not sure what i am going to do yet. still working in ltc but getting tired of working "off the clock hours" sometimes have some very gratifying times with my residents but could almost work as a security guard the same amount of hours and make the same with 1/16th the stress. ltc can be extremely stressful emotionally. thanks for the encouraging reply. :)
  6. good advice, i am a 52 year old male lpn who just graduated in june of 2009, got my license in sept. and started working in ltc in oct. although there are some rewarding moments it is just about more than i can take emotionally and physically. i am trying to decide whether or not to go back for my rn. they want all the work done but don't want you to be on the clock at the end of your shift. and it is so hard emotionally to see people with alzheimer's every day. my mom is in a nursing home with this horrid disease. lt is so stressful and distressing. is working in a hospital any better . if not, perhaps i just need to do something else for my own emotional health. burnt out but trying to hang in there.
