I have a few questions about Air Force nursing. I am a 47 year old male ADN RN with 5 years emergency experience and CEN certification. Have 3 years prior service enlisted in the Army. Starting a RN-BSN program and will graduate Summer 2010. 1) Recently the Army has decided not to give age waivers unless you have enough prior service credit to give you a total of 20 years by age 62 (or else you take the 43-60 year old 2 year service commitment with no perks). Has anyone heard that the AF might be doing the same? 2) Once you are comissioned in the AF as a nursing officer, and you are making weight and fitness requirements and doing everything else needed to be a promotable officer, are you pretty much allowed to renew for another 4 years, or can they say, "we don't need anymore 50+ year old captains" and send you packing? 3) The Army now offers ISP for critical care nurses. Is this offered in the other services as well, or is this just an Army specific program? 4) I will be a BSN by July 2010, when can I start the paperwork for the AF and be comissioned? 5) Does anyone have any ED experience in the Air Force? What are your thoughts? How does it compare to the civilian side? How are ED deployments? What are the best bases for AF ED nurses? Thanks
