Army AECP
As of last summer, Old Dominion's tuition had gone over the AECP cap and they were unable or unwilling to waive the rest. Maybe they've figured out how to do it, but they didn't seem like they planned to try.

WBU Fall 2011 BSN
Hi, all! I wanted to start a thread for Generic BSN program students who are starting Fall 2011 at Wayland Baptist University. I can't wait to meet you all! Please tell me about yourselves. I'm a flute player in the Army but I'm switching to Army nursing. I'm living in Alabama right now but I'm excited to be moving to San Antonio. I've heard great things about the city. Any suggestions for fun things to do?

EKU 2011 ABSN
I was granted early admission to EKU's ABSN program because of extenuating circumstances having to do with the military. I'm so excited!!! I hope to hear from any other applicants, current EKU nursing students, or (in the future) Fall 2011 acceptees. Current students: any words of advice? Applicants: good luck!! :redpinkhe Fall 2011 ABSN students: can't wait to meet you!!

Quick question for Army nurses
Well, I definitely see your point, but my supervisor disagrees and still wants some 2LT job titles.

UTHSCSA-Fall 2011
just got the following informational email, which i'm sure you will all get, too: thank you for applying to the university of texas health science center san antonio's school of nursing. we have received your application and are in the process of reviewing admission files. this process should be complete within the next few days. once this process is complete we will be sending out teas test invites to those applicants who qualify for the next round of admissions. here is our admissions timeframe... - monday, february 7th...send out teas invites via e-mail o the teas test will be available to take between the dates of february 15th-march 18th. - friday, march 18th...teas test deadline - friday, march 25th...send out offers of admission for the fa11 semester if you do not receive an e-mail inviting you to take the teas test this means your application for admission is ineligible for review. if that is the case, an e-mail will be sent to you, from the hsc's application center, explaining why your application is ineligible for admissions review. study guides for the teas version v (5) exam can be found at www.atitesting.com.

Quick question for Army nurses
I'm an enlisted person in the Army, but I'm about to start the AECP and become an Army nurse. My supervisor is working on my NCOER, and in the block where it says what positions you should be considered for, he wants to put my possible positions as a 2LT nurse. So my question is, what are some position titles that a 2LT nurse might have? Corresponding enlisted job titles might be Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Musical Support Team Leader (I'm in the band), Supply Sergeant, etc. THANKS in advance!

Wow, thanks for the heads up on the hospitals and the parking. I'm so glad I found this site!!

UTHSCSA-Fall 2011
Thanks, Cyclical! That was so helpful! Actually, I wasn't thinking so much about getting lost in the crowd as I was about hassle vs. facilities/opportunitites. Wayland Baptist is so small that it seems like there would be less hassles (i.e., no parking fee, no one-year waitlist for parking, consolidated buildings so getting school administrative tasks taken care of will all be in the same place and I would know the people I needed the assistance from, etc.). But then UTHSCSA undoubtedly has much larger, better and more sophisticated facilities, more student professional groups to join, more networking opportunities, and would look better on my resume.

Thank you, CyclicalEvents! I'm trying to decide between UTHSCSA and Wayland Baptist. What are your thoughts on the big school vs. smalls school experience?

UTHSCSA-Fall 2011
Oh, wow, I was thinking for some reason we would hear in a week or two by email. Maybe I'm thinking of a different school. Anyway, good luck to everybody! Anyone here know people going through the program now? What do they think of it?

PSY 240 and FON 241 online or in person?
I just finished FON241 online through Rio. I knew ahead of time what I was in for because of these message boards (thank GOD and thank you!). The course has 1,000 points. There's a lot of work and a lot of information. I studied for two weeks for the midterm and got a 93. Some of the questions in the course I think were from the previous textbook edition. I asked the instructor to bring up that issue with the course creators, so I hope they fix it. Anyway, my instructor graded pretty easily on the assignments, which apparently has not always been the case with other instructors. The long and short of it is, the class took a lot of work, but I did get an A. It can be done. But I doubt most nutrition classes at other schools are this hard.

Army AECP
I was also accepted into the AECP FY11. I just looked at Wayland's website, but all I see is a 4-year BSN or an RN to BSN program. I do not have an RN. Do they have something AECP-friendly that is just not posted? Thanks in advance!!

AECP Selectee
I had a question that I know you AECP students can answer: when do you get commissioned in the AECP? I just got accepted into the program, but I can't find that piece of information anywhere.

ACEP schools
Old Dominion in Virginia is very military friendly.

Anyone in AMEDD's AECP
Oh, and in regards to aggie nurse's post, it is very tough to get into a program. It's usually like 400 applicants for 40 slots or something. You should start volunteering at a hospital NOW and doing community service now, and of course getting awesome grades and studying for the SAT (if you haven't taken it recently). UW, for instance, requires 100 hours of healthcare volunteer work for their regular program and 200 hours for their accelerated program, but preferably a lot more. That's tough for people already working full time! I applied at Old Dominion for Fall 2011 and they accepted me. The application was VERY easy to complete. I have a feeling they accept military applicants under a different set of standards than other applicants. I didn't have to send in a resume or letters of recommendation or anything. And they sent all the paperwork that the AECP is going to want from your school without me even asking. Definitely check them out!

Anyone in AMEDD's AECP
I just got accepted into the program, so doing the packet is fresh in my mind. The packet is a massive undertaking. Have you read all the instructions? Start early and ask the program manager lots of questions (try not to ask things that are in the instructions, however - easier said than done when the instructions are 60 pages long!). I had a lot of problems putting the packet together, but that was mostly because of bad luck and things going wrong on my end (horrible longstanding weather that prevented me from taking a PT test - ice on the track!, family problems that forced me to fly halfway across the world right when things were due, etc.). Nevertheless, even with good luck, it will take a LOT of time and a LOT of attention to detail. I'm not sure what you need to know...I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have!
