  1. seriously! what were they thinking?!
  2. I also start in August in the same program as the above poster. I work full-time right now as a surgical tech. And I also am a single mother of a toddler. So I'm not sure if I am going to just go back to working part-time hours while in school or not. I do have the option of living with my parents till I'm done with the program. We will see what happens. My goal is to bridge to RN and work in a psych hospital. I was originally going to school for my Psychology degree but I realized how much I love the medical field after working at my current job. I still love the psych field however and would love to incorporate both. I'm also very interested in working in the OR or in Labor and Delivery. Congrats to everyone for starting the first step to the rest and best of your life!

I was just accepted into the Online program at PTEC and was wondering how difficult you think the program is? How much time do you find that you have to study outside of the classroom? Do you get to review patient's charts the night before clinicals? Do you feel confident with clinicals from what you've learned? Can you (or other students if you don't) work full-time while attending the program? Thanks in advance if you can answer those questions for me!
  4. Nice! I only have Anatomy and Physiology done so far besides the basic classes like Computer Literacy, Psych, Statistics and Composition. I'm definitely up for a study partner. Especially with someone who has kids as well and understands how demanding they are!
  5. I was accepted! I pay my dues by June 24th. I'm very happy right now.
  6. I am going crazy waiting to hear something. I e-mailed Chris tonight. Hopefully I'll get some good news back tomorrow that someone didn't pay their $100 deposit (it's due tomorrow, right?) or that someone is not going to continue with the program... :::fingers crossed:::
  7. Yes and if things don't work out with getting into a nursing program, I will probably finish my degree in Psychology. If things do work out with nursing, I would really like to be a R.N. in a psych hospital or unit. That's my ultimate goal.
  8. thanks for all the replies. now as a pre-nursing student, i really would like to work in a psych unit, L&D or OR (i'm already a surgical tech). i was just interested in what everyone else chose after going through all the different clinic rotations.
  9. yeah, i bought it from the site. i might take the teas again but if not i'll sell it to you if you still want it. it was really good. it had all that stuff on geology in the review.
  10. I'd be interested in hearing what both LPNs and RNs started out in. Sorry if this question has been asked before.
  11. I didn't get a chance to e-mail her yet today. I will though. You should get the study guide for the TEAS exam from the ATI site. It was pretty helpful.
  12. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but still thinking about other options just in case it doesn't work out that way... Did you decide if you are going to apply for the day class?
  13. I really hope so! My son is 1 1/2. Do you have any kids? Hopefully I'll meet you in August if things work out in my favor... But we'll see. Are you going to bridge to RN after? Have you already taken your pre-requisites?
  14. She said in her e-mail that I was the accepted as the first alternate so I'm assuming so. Now that just kills me, because why couldn't it have been a 25 student class instead of 24! And if I'm so close and yet still nobody ends up dropping and I have to wait another 6 months to start... I know what you mean about just wanting a job. I always had no interest in health care despite my father always trying to get me to go into the field in college. I actually just finished my A.A. in Elementary Education because that's what I thought I wanted to do. But now that I've had a job in the medical field for the past 1.5 years, I know it was meant to be. I love learning about medicine and I want to be able to help people the way that my son's doctors and nurses helped him when he spent the first few weeks of his life in the NICU. I hope someone gets accepted into another program too and chooses to go forth with that one. I'm going to email Chris tomorrow to see what my odds are and if I should start the process of applying to Erwin and possibly PHCC's night program.
  15. flg8r36, I can't send private messages until I have made 15 posts apparently. I can't apply for the day program because I can't leave my job right now as a single parent. It's good money and I'm in the process of moving out of my parent's into my own place with my son so I can't really depend on less income than what I'm making right now. Not to mention it's also great health care experience. I was thinking about re-applying for the January online class like I already said, and to also maybe apply for Erwin's night class that starts in August 2010. It is so far away but in the meantime I can take pre-req's for the bridge program. It just sucks because I'm really ready to start, I hate standing in limbo. I don't understand why PTEC doesn't have a night class to begin with. How can you create an online class yet not offer a night class! If I were you though, I would take the TEAS one more time and apply for the day program this fall. I would actually prefer to do the theory portion in a classroom with an instructor there to help then to do it online. But with my work schedule, I can't do that which is why I'll just wait for the next online class to be offered. I really just wish that someone who was accepted decides to drop from the roster so I can get in this August. Knowing my luck, nobody will. The waiting is killing me. I think I might e-mail Chris and talk to her about it.
  16. i'm going to guess you had more than ten points if you got into the program because i had 14 points with a 85.3 on the teas and was only accepted as the first alternate if anyone withdrew from the roster.

I will probably try again for the January class. I'll definitely meet up with you at the orientation. My son is only 1 1/2. I probably am going to re-take the TEAS but I don't see what good it'll do me because I got a 85 and unless I get a 90+ it is not going to make a difference. But I'll try and see what happens. I'm pretty upset as well. I still think it was wrong to give people a better chance of getting into the program just because they have applied before or because of their gender. How is that fair and what makes them better students than us? I definitely cannot afford to go the private school route. So I think I will re-take the TEAS and then reapply for the January class. I think I might also take one or two science classes in the fall at SPC so I have some of the pre-req's for the bridge program taken care of.

It's ridiculous and unfair to give extra points for applying in the past and for being male. My friend went to Galen for the LPN program and she hated the staff there. Plus they aren't accredited. PTEC also told me about the October class but I can't do day classes because I work full-time in a doctor's office M-F 9-5. And I'm a single parent so I can't not work for a year to go to school. So that's why I was really hoping I would get into this program. I wish they would start a night class. I'd actually would rather do a night class than an online class. My friend that went to Galen is working as a LPN on the night shift at a LTC facility and makes 20/hr which isn't too bad. I wanted to do something like that, work maybe PRN or three nights a week and then still work two days a week where I work now while taking the pre-reqs for the RN bridge program at SPC. I heard that Keiser was starting a night class but I wasn't sure how expensive they were or if they are accredited. I might look into that. Have you heard anything about that school?

Are you serious? I only scored a 85.3 on my TEAS and received an email saying I was accepted as the first alternate if anyone should decide to drop from the original roster. But I also had some points from having my A.A. degree and working in the medical field. It really sucks because considering it's an online program, I really doubt anyone would decide to not do the class unless they find out they got into a R.N. program as well. So, what are you gonna do now? Are you gonna wait to reapply for the next class in January or try something else? I'm still not sure.

not yet. i guess we'll find out tomorrow. good luck!

I agree. I've taken online classes for the last few semesters so I'm pretty used to it by now. Not to mention that it was the first online class PTEC has tried so that is probably why it was "poorly planned." The second time around they should have learned from what was good and what wasn't and improve. What amount of points did you have? I had 6 plus the the 8 points for the READI. Wow, I can't believe there was less than 40 because there was a LOT of people at that meeting. Hopefully it works out for us then

Wow this is discouraging. I was applying for that program as well. How is the clinical portion of the class going?
