Hi LICHSON hopefuls! I have not been on this thread in a while. I see lots of new applicants have been posting a lot of questions about the school. I will be graduating from LICH in 2 months and I though I would give you all my perspective on the school. I am a day student so I really can't speak much about the structure of the night program (sorry). First off, it's not easy and expect to put in A LOT of hard work no matter how smart you are or how great your professors are. It is a lot of information to learn in two years so expect to have a somewhat limited social life for the duration of your school time. The professors are a mixed bunch. I have had some professors that are top grade and some that clearly do not excel in the field of teaching. But I will say that all most all of then really care about the students getting a good education and graduating. Unfortunately, one of the earlier posts was correct. A lot of the good professors do seem to be jumping ship. But from what I have heard, the new teachers coming in are not all bad (with the exception of maybe one or two). But prepare to spend a big chunk of your outside-of-class time studying and double checking what you have heard in lecture to make sure you have absorbed it correctly and really understand it. Learning nursing is more that just memorizing facts. It's about taking facts you've learned and figuring out the correct way to utilize them. This is a skill that takes a while to get. No matter what school you go to or what the school's reputation is, it's going to be a long journey with a lot of blood sweat and tears. The administration office is by far the most frustrating part of the LICH experience. The office is under staffed and lacking in communication skills. Many of the office staff are very nice people but more often than not, the people who you have access to, don't have the information that you need. I do believe that the administration difficulties are part of the reason a lot of the good professors have left as well. I'm sure it makes it just as hard to teach at the school as it does to attend the programs. But at the end of the day, my advice would be to always be polite and patient when trying to get something done in that office. You sometimes have to really stay on top of them, but if you do it in a kind manner and acknowledge that are trying to help, they are much more likely to put in their best effort. Overall is LICH the best school out there? Probably not. But I have received a good education and definitely feel like I can go on to get a job or continue my education with a solid foundation. And that is what I shelled the $$$ out for, so I go what I paid for. Good lock to everyone who is applying. I know how stressful the process can be!

I wouldn't stress too much. Your pre-reqs are very solid and I know several people that did much worse on the TEAS and still got in with good pre-reqs. I know it's stressful waiting. I feel like that was just last week for me! I'm sure you will get an interview call!

Hi LaCana, Glad to see you got accepted. I was there waiting at the health clearence as well. And was two hours late to work. Had I know they were going to go in alphabetical order, I wouldn't have arrived so early.

Yes Diana sg I am trying to remain positive lke you said. I guess some days are harder than others. But you are right. I just need to be patient and have a little faith.

Hey all, Has anyone besides LaCana heard anything either way? It feels like it's been a while. Especially if interviews are over as honeycutts was informed. I can't help but worry that they have done all the accepatence letters and are now waiting to send out rejection letters to those that are left. Please write if you have any info!

LaCana - That's great. Did it say you need to contact them? It does seem stange that it's so small. They must be sending all the other info later. LadyT618 - Thanks for the heads up. I have called a couple times but always got a recording. But after what you just said I think I will try again next week just to make sure I haven't slipped through the cracks. Do you mind me asking what your experience was attending LICHSON? I have a friend that is finishing her first year and really likes it, but I have definitely heard some horror stories! Thanks again!

Villa0912 I am pretty sure you are not allowed to send private messages until after 15 posts. You should get the icons honeycutts was describing soon after that.

There is also the option of private loans. The interest is higher, but if this is something you really want and you can't wait another year, they might be your best bet. Just make sure you read all the fine print before signing anything. And do your research so you end up with the right loan for you. It takes a lot of work but there are options out there! Good luck!

Hey Diana, We spoke on another thread. I am still waiting as well. I think they had a committee meeting this week. I still am not clear if the will be calling or sending through the mail. I am starting to get jumpy every time my phone rings. Please make sure to post if you hear something. Good luck!!

i think this is a much different situation than the others discussed here. if you are unable to get a transcript then you are clearly not being dishonest. that is a separate situation from deliberately not submitting transcripts that you are capable of acquiring. as for the op, i completely understand not wanting to get rejected due to a past problem. i was in the same situation coming back to school after 10 years. but do you really want to start on your journey, just to be expelled after spending time, energy and a hefty chunk of money on your dream? my guess is, if the school found out and let you go, getting into another program would be near impossible. it's of course your choice, but make sure you weigh all your options and think about all the consequences. good luck!

I know this is true. However, while I have never repeated a course, I certainly know people who have. Smart capable people who I know would be great in their fields (not all of them nurses). But I do understand the competition aspect of it all. And obviously if the school she is hoping to get into won't consider retakes, it's best to stick with the B. But if they allow it, I say go for it. Especially if it will solidify your chances of getting accepted. Then you will have a stronger application and an even better knowledge of the subject matter!

I am confused as to why some people on this thread feel it's ok for someone to retake a class with a D or F but not a higher grade. If the point of view is that life should not get in the way of you getting an A than I would think that this view would apply to someone that had a hard time and got a D or failed. Personally I think that everyone deserves a second chance to learn from their mistakes. And let's not forget that the OP got a B! Which is a really good grade. I think it shows drive and dedication to want to go back and do even better. Those are two qualities I would want in a nurse that was taking care of me. In the end it's about making yourself a fantastic nurse. We can't be expected to follow the same path to this goal as we are different people with different lives. But in the end what matters most is that we learn the skills needed to the best of our ability so we can go on to be the best nurses possible.

"the best solution is to start over. i also had a similar experience as you. went to college straight out of highschool and had something like a 2.0 gpa with at least one f on my transcript before i gave up. when i decided to go for nursing, i went to a new college and did not transfer anything from my prior school. basically started over from scratch, clean slate. i had to repeat a lot of courses but i would have to repeat them anyway since i forgot almost everything i learned." js408 - correct me if i am wrong but is this not something you posted on another thread? i would think with your background, you would have a slightly more tolerant view on people wanting to get a fresh start.

Honeycutts - I have had an interview. On Tues the 12th. As far as I know they are not even close to done with the whole process. I was told that they will be meeting to discuss the people that have been interviewed thus far, next Tues or Wed. After that I think they will be going on to a fresh group of applicants.

She says she likes it, but that you have to take a lot of initiative as far as your learning experience. I get the impression that there isn't a lot of hand holding. Sha hasn't had any horror stories though. I doubt it's as good as beth israel, but I'm hoping that if my own study habits are strong enough I will be ok.

I have heard that rumor as well. I assume that our chances are pretty good at this point but you're right, you never know. I have heard about confusing letters going out from beth israel. There is a thread on here about the school and someone was talking about having received one a couple days ago. It probably doesn't hurt to call just for some clarity. I also hear bmcc in really tough to get into. I work with a girl that goes to lichson and she was at bmcc forever trying to get into the nursing program. She had a super high GPA too. Well I hope you get your first choice program!

No, just Lichson. I had planned to apply for a couple school in 2010 but then the recession hit and my job got it's hours cut back. It made me realize I needed to start figuring things out sooner rather than later. I figured if I applied to one place this year and didn't get accepted I could finish up my prereqs and feel more confident going into application time next year. But now that I feel so close, I will be really disappointed if I don't get in this fall. What about you. Are you waiting on any other schools?

I think it also depends on the school. Some schools only look at the courses that they feel pertain to their program (mostly sciences). Others look at your whole GPA. Also it might work in your favor that you have gone back to school and shown a clear dedication to your studies now that you are older and wiser. I am in a similar situation, having dropped out of college when I was 20 after blowing off a lot of classes and tanking my GPA. Last week I had my interview for the school I applied to and the professor said he was very impressed with the fact that I have grown up and learned from the mistakes I made when I was young. If I were you I would try and call the schools you are interested in and see how they choose people for their program.

I believe that they have a committee meeting next Tuesday or Wednesday to discuss the people that have been interviewed so far. But I don't know when after that they give notice. Or if they do it through calls or snail mail. I am hoping to hear sometime late next week though. I feel like there is so much I need to do if I am accepted, and I want to get a jump on it so I hope they don't take too long getting back to everyone!

I had my interview last Tuesday the 12th. I think it went well. The professor was very nice and made me feel very comfortable (although I was still nervous of course). He asked about what drew me to nursing and what I though my strengths and weaknesses were. Also what I think the job of a nurse is. A lot of things you would expect in an interview for nursing school. In the end he asked me to write a short essay. I had heard this might happen, but I think it is just so they see your cold writing skills as opposed to the edited essay you turn in with your application.

Hello everyone, I wanted to write and say thank you for all your posts. I have been following this thread for a while now, even though I applied only to LICHSON. All your comments have made this whole process somewhat bearable. It helps knowing I am not the only one going crazy waiting!
