  1. We have a specific uniform. Need to go to Central Uniforms to get it. I went today and ordered my stuff, it should take 2 weeks. Found out about shoes, they need to be all white no other colors on the side or anything.
  2. Ok, there is a clinic on Broad and Lombard where I got both my flu shots... and as far as I know, it was free. They didn't charge me. They never mentioned to me that they were running out or anything either (I was having a lovely conversation with the nurse there about all my immunizations). Flu season might be "over" but the flu is still running around! It's never really gone and if you are doing a pediatrics rotation, it's super important not to bring any of those viruses into the hospitals where the kids can easily get sick, their immune systems are both not fully developed and already compromised being in the hospital for whatever reason. Question about shoes: Do they need to be all white, as in, the brand name/symbol on the side needs to also be white, or does that part not matter?
  3. ahh, thank you... but I already bought it off Amazon for pretty cheap. But thanks again!
  4. Anybody (past students- AugustRain or Hiddencat or anyone else) have the Calculate with Confidence book I could buy from them?
  5. Thank you AugustRain! I live right in Rittenhouse, so I'll be walking to school and don't need to worry about parking- woohoo!!
  6. This might be a stupid question... but where exactly are all of our classes located? Are they all at 15th and Vine? I went to an info session in that building, but didn't know if all the classes were in there or not.
  7. Acrawl & blueeyes, my schedule looks exactly like yours! Same professors and all. I sent out for my American DataBank info a few weeks ago and never received anything back except for the drug screening form.. I am still waiting on my child abuse clearance as well. How long does it take to get that? I actually got one in June for a job and still have it, but I guess they need the most up-to-date and require you to send it back within 2 days. So I'm still waiting and haven't gotten anything done!! I'm getting kind of nervous about getting everything done in time for school to start, but I know there is still some time left... 1.5 months! I am also very excited!
  8. Does anyone know what the starting salary is for an RN out of the ACE program? I wasn't really concerned about this knowing that I can work my way up and had plans to get my masters and everything, but my apt building was just bought out and looks like my rent is going to skyrocket next year... So now I'm concerned about what I'll be making and if I need to move. Let me know if anyone has done any extensive research on salaries! Also would be helpful to hear from people who have graduated the program to see what they have come across and heard about through their peers. Thanks so much!
  9. I know, but my parents are leaving the country for a few weeks in february/march, and I'm concerned that the deadline may be when they are away and I may miss it. (Since I definitely don't have the money).
  10. Does anyone know anything about when our deadline is for payment? I'm really confused and can't find information. I've emailed Tina and she replied with some links where I still can't find the information I need.
  11. AugustRain, I'm going to buy my nursing shoes soon, should I get white? Is that basically the general rule for shoes in all of the clinical sites? Also, any suggestions on kinds of shoes?! Just asked my best friend who is a nurse, she suggested Merrell's and Dansko's. Thanks!
  12. Hi everyone!! I'm in the Spring 2010 program, but just saw this post and was wondering if anyone had any information on the UPenn scholarship thing.. I haven't heard anything about it until I read it here, and am hoping to look into it if I still have time. Does anyone have a link they can send? Also, is this for their program or Drexel's program- or just anyone in general? Thanks!
  13. You know, I am clueless on the loans/scholarships/financial aid front. I could definitely use some advice there too. I will not be taking out any loans, because my parents are going to pay for it... they think it's a better idea then taking out a loan so I don't have to pay any interest... which makes sense.. However, I've been trying to research scholarships... It's a lot of money for my parents to pay and I feel awful about it. I know we don't get any financial aid because it's a second degree program (am I right about that?) and FAFSA for us is only to apply for the Stafford loan. Correct? I have no idea where to get more information about scholarships though. I don't know how any of that works, I've never applied for scholarships before.
  14. Yes! I did have Laura Davidson. I had her MWF 10am. I loved her. I haven't picked up any books yet.. Just have those DVD's to start with that my dad bought me.
  15. Acrawl, Happy New Year to you too! I am actually a certified EMT, so I already have my CPR cert, however I am going to need to re-certify because it will expire in September 2010. I don't think I have received anything else in the mail yet.. But don't forget to send in your final transcripts by the 15th. CCP reopens on the 4th, so I will be in there that day to order them and drop them off at Drexel in person! I did just finish my pre-reqs at CCP, I took Stats, Ethics, Nutrition, and Dev. Psych this semester. Also, I agree we shouldn't stress ourselves out in the next few months as we will be for the 11 months following that! But I'm actually just really interested in all this stuff, and I'm doing it more because I want to one day be a competent nurse (hopefully nurse practitioner) and not because I'm trying to cram for the program or anything. You should have seen me when my dvd's came in the mail and I opened the box, I looked like a 7 year old on Christmas who just got something awesome like a red ryder bb gun ;o)
  16. Thanks so much!!! I can't wait to get started on all this pre-studying! I definitely need to study electrolytes, I never learned much about them in my classes... which is another reason why I'm studying the A&P dvds, I don't trust that my professors at CCP taught us everything.. in fact I know my A&P-I prof did not and I struggled to catch up in A&P-II because of it. I will definitely be trying to learn everything I can before getting started, just to have better base knowledge. I will probably study all my old EMT stuff as well.. could possibly help with patient assessments! Thanks again!
  17. AugustRain, I can't believe you are still providing us with information and helping us out even though you are finished!! I'm pretty sure once I'm finished I will just breathe a sigh of relief and not ever want to look back!! Thank you so very much for all your input, I think I can speak for everyone when I say it is MUCH appreciated!! I start in the Spring and have 3 months off right now.. Is there anything you would suggest I get started on while I have the time? I purchased the Anatomy & Physiology lecture DVD's from the Teaching Company just to learn the most I can learn about A&P (I know I am a total nerd) and I'm also going to study some pharmacology with my dad and sister's help (dad's a physician, sister's a pharm sales rep), just so that when I'm struggling with all the nursing stuff in school, knowing these things will hopefully allow me to focus on everything else. Any other suggestions on just general topics to study? I'm not working right now, so I'm going to be pretty bored for the next few months.. I might as well get a head start! I'm not too worried about HESI strategy.. I took an EMT course and I believe the tests were all in a similar format to the NCLEX, and boy did I learn a ton about multiple choice! I think I've got that mastered. If not mastered, then close to it. I think that's why I like the idea of all the HESI tests throughout the program, because you probably really get used to the types of questions and understand how they work so by the time you take the NCLEX, you're not even breaking a sweat. Thanks again AugustRain!
  18. I'm not 100% sure about what the HESI is all about, but it sounds to me like if you can't pass the HESI, then you won't be able to pass the NCLEX either. So I like the idea of it, it makes sense to me. They even have an entire course dedicated to getting you prepared for it. I don't think everyone needs to worry so much about it. It's going to be tough at any school, every school has it's own way of doing things.
  19. danh3190, Did you ever find out if they do this in PA?! Also, I was EMT-B certified in November of 2008 (I think they last 3 years?) and I'm going to nursing school (drexel's accelerated) this march. I'm wondering if those nursing credits would count. That would be fantastic. Does getting CPR recertified count toward this as well?? Anyone know?
  20. Starting the facebook group was a great idea- I've been wanting to start one. I'm so excited for the program to begin- only 3 more months! I hope it flies by. Also, does anyone know the deadline for payment for the first quarter?
  21. ohhhh nevermind.. this is irrelevant now. a friend sent me a birthday gift from my "new school", ha!
  22. Thanks for the info AugustRain, and Congrats Congrats CONGRATS!!!! You're officially an RN now!! Has anyone received some sort of package from the Drexel Bookstore? I got all these UPS notices on my door and when I finally called UPS they said they shipped it back to the sender at the Drexel University Bookstore. I called the bookstore and didn't reach anyone. Any clue what it could be??? I'm anxious to find out! (and kind of annoyed that stupid UPS couldn't ring someone else's bell in the building to get someone to sign for it! all 3 times!)
  23. Does anyone know how long clinical shifts are? Are they a full 8 hours? BTW... I would just like to remind everyone that we are just 6 months away!!! Yipee!!!!! I'm psyched! :) :)
  24. i already live in Center City, so I'll be staying here. The cost of housing for me is almost the same as it for the housing they provide.
  25. hmmm thats odd... but no worries, it's only 8 credits for A&P in total (I and II) 4 credits each. they will transfer over. Give them a call tomorrow and double check, but you will be fine with that.
