I just wanted to chime in on the job outlook...it isn't that bad. I graduate in May from ACC and already have job lined up. Most of the other people in my class (of 40ish) do as well. Good luck guys!

Radiation, you will also be able to take mental health (level 2 class) over the summer, which is a bonus that you woudn't be able to do if you started in the fall. It will help lighten your load. And yes, you will get all those points. You will def. be at the top of the Spring 2011 list. Yeah nobody at ACC does clinicals in the ER. I think a few students do an IV day there, where you learn to start IVs, but not clinicals. They are usually in heavy med surg areas - think fairly acute patients needing a lot of patient care. We've had them all over, SAH, NAMC, RR, etc. but you will use a lot of your nursing skills in level 1, and then you will start administering medications too. This includes injections! You do this in front of your instructor in level 1, but in level 2, you only do IV stuff in front of them. (this may vary by clinical instructor) You just wear normal clothes in class and in lab. Scrubs in clinical. Lab coat is worn over nice clothes when you go to the hospital to get your patient info the night before clinical. (Look up meds, etc.) Level 1 is a great time to get comfortable working with patients and getting comfortable in a nursing role. Especially if you don't have tech experience. I don't think I would do anything different. Just be nice to everyone in your class and clinical groups. They will become your family and eventually your coworkers. It's a small world! In clinical, use it as an opportunity to ask questions and network. You can easily get a job like that! I've seen it! Ask a lot of questions and don't shy away from learning experiences. As for studying? Do what works for you. I use flash cards, but everyone is so different. I like flash cards because I can go back to them before the finals (they are cumulative) and study over things from the beginning of the semester pretty easily. It works really well for me. The test are definitely tricky, I recommend getting an NCLEX book to help you with some of the harder concepts as you go along. I didn't look at it too much for Level 1, but I used it a lot in Level 2.

I'm so sorry RADIATION-I was pulling for you! I remember crying all the way home from work when I got my letter. It is a great time to save money, and enjoy your sanity while you still can. Especially because the Spring 2011 will be a breeze for you to get into.:) And yes, you will get 6 points with nursing skills (1)and the reapplication points (5). :) Good luck in Level 1 guys! Yes, everyone will get a email that applied- I think they sent out the provisional acceptance emails about 30 min. before the denial email. Don't fret if you get a denial email, I got one, and two weeks later was offered a spot. :)

If I remember correctly, they wait until the END of the day, like 4:30 or 5. Probably so they can run out of the building and avoid all of the phone calls. Good luck every one!:redbeathe

haha in the same boat, here. two of mine say final screen, and three say "hold" which i think means they are already offering the position to someone else. i don't know what the trick is to get hired by seton. i was offered a prn position at st. davids before i started nursing school, but i declined it, because i wanted more hours than they could offer at the time. now i really need a job.

Honestly, the pre-nursing stuff is very different from what you do in the program. Some of the people that were ranked dead last are at the top of the class now. The test are very different, and it requires a different kind of thinking and studying that what you are used to. I understand how frustrating the wait is, but it will pay off. I would say the only thing that really helps to be fresh on is anatomy & physiology.

I just wanted to throw something out there for the nervous folks applying for the ACC Nursing program who might have stumbled upon this thread. I am onsite, Level 2. Last semester, we lost 5 people total out of 50 (10%) and one was health related. Don't get discouraged. It is hard, but not that hard. :)

I got an acceptance letter for the Fall 2009 Traditional Track on Friday. What an awesome way to start out the three day weekend!

Cool, thanks for all the info! At this point I will be happy either way. An extra few months to save money would be great, but getting started in the program would be nice too. (Plus, not having to retake Nursing Skills I since mine expires this fall!)

Congrats!! I knew you would get a spot!! So I take it you are accepting? I am so glad to hear they are sending out the acceptance letters as they go, instead of sending out a bunch at the end of July.

That's a very good way to look at it. Cross that bridge when you get there!

@mwski I'm sorry! You were soooo close! I was devastated last week. Now I am trying to look on the bright side. Well, the only thing I can think of..I can save more money now. I bet you will get a spot for the Fall 2009 though. I mean you are 4th in line. So if only 4 people out of 120 decide to defer, you are in!!
