  1. I would apply to an accelerated program, maybe they would consider you since your degree is in Microbiology. ASN programs have a 2 yr wait list and are difficult to get into- they do not have lower requirements for admission. I did this 20 yrs ago, they didn't have 2nd degree accelerated programs. I went the community college route because of the low tuition. If you can afford the tuition on accelerated-why not just apply.
  2. You sound just like me! I've been out 12 years and just finished a refresher course. All I hear is "at least 1 year current experience" I'm going to try Home Health because there is a need plus this will get me "current." I agree about LTC, I know myself I just cannot take care of that many patients! It sure is frustrating!!!
  3. I just read some of the recent posts to my original one-That sounds so discouraging about the home health and hospice. Home Health was one of my options after I take the refresher course. I know so many recent grads, one in my own family that just passed - is now an RN with no job! Great-Ifeel like I'll be in the same boat. Is this really going to be worth it??- to try and take this refresher course, when there are no jobs out there!
  4. I'm going with the 2/days week for 6 weeks refresher course in the Fall-1day-theory, 1day clinical. A little expensive but I think it will be worth it!
  5. I'm in the same situation-at home with my kids and now want to get back into it. I'm considering doing Home Health. You can work part-time and on your schedule. I've never done HH, but nurses that I have asked- enjoy it. If I go back to a hospital I would consider doing per-diem -night shift. I'm going to do a refresher course before I go back. Good Luck to You!
  6. I would definitely be cleaning and changing this patient while she was in bed. It would be easier and safer for you. You can then, with another person do a safe transfer to bed or wheelchair.
  7. I graduated from CCP in 1990-I too have a B.S.-not in Nsg, I chose the school because it had a great Nursing program and the tuition was inexpensive compared to other programs. When I went back to school for Nursing they did not have a Second Degree or Accelerated BSN programs-that also might be something to consider. Overall I thought I had a great experience at CCP. You should check soon with CCP-I hear there's always a waiting list-You definitely have a chance, with already having a Degree and good grades!--Good Luck!!
  8. I think that having a husband and child-the ADN day program would work for you. I think it would be hard to work and go 5 nights in a row of school. Of course the BSN is the way to go, but you can always find an on-line RN-BSN program down the road. For now maybe you could find a part-time job that would work with your school schedule-then eventually you could find a CNA job or Extern(I know from my own experience they want you to have at least 1 yr of clinicals to be an extern) It's a tough call what to do as far as you current job goes. Just have to weigh it all out!! Good Luck in whatever you decide!
  9. Thanks so much for the feedback- I have been out of nursing for 12 yrs(kept lic. up-so that's good) I do agree it's like riding a bike-you've done it before you can do it again- I know for me a refresher would help with confidence- Just hope it will be worth it!
  10. Wanted to know if anyone out there has taken or interested in taking a refresher course. I want to return to Nursing- but feel it's necessary to take a course. Do you think $1800 is too much for a course that includes a clinical or go with an on-line refresher that is way less without clinicals?
  11. I've been home with my children and out of Nsg for 12yrs. I want to get back to it but feel a refresher course is needed first. I was wondering if anyone has taken a course lately. I have a couple options. The course I would like to take is $1800 and includes a clinical -Is that worth it? The online course I found is less expensive- There's an option to arrange a clinical yourself- or not do a clinical at all.
